💬 New Trakt Feedback

There is nothing in our communication or our changes so far that indicates we are forcing anyone to do anything.

This is simply not true.

This just feels like an unnecessary personal attack :face_with_peeking_eye:

So you are not using anything we’ve been working on for the past year?

And this feels like an unnecessary attack on the whole team.

You have Continue Watching on the home page with a vertical list when you tap the title.
You can manage your history from the Media Details page and you have a row of your Personal and Social activity at the bottom of the Home page. If you tap on the title, you get a list of your activities (aka history).
Your profile sections shows “your month do far” and your favorites. We are going to get more personal. We are working on Library and Notes integration, it’s just not used by many as many as just tracking.

Please look at GitHub, the New Trakt is open source. You can also search the forums for the Product Roundup I started doing monthly. If you want to see progress, you can see progress. If you don’t want to see it, then I can’t help.

I’ll let Justin answer if he wants but since I’m here
I don’t think this is the way to get your feedback across. I don’t even know what you are expecting to achieve with this. I deeply feel it hurts the community more than anything.

Thank you for your feedback :purple_heart:

I think my biggest issue with this announcement is that while it may be easier for the devs to have a more “unified” look, I’ve never liked LITE for the web because it feels like a phone app and specifically NOT a webpage. I actually like the design of the iOS and specifically tvOS apps because they are light and functional, I can see my Up Next and click on a show to launch it. I’m not doing a ton of Metrics analysis or organizing on it. It’s a Dashboard.

But for the website, I want something Robust, which is why I have tried LITE and always immediately revert back. To reiterated what’s been said, Vertical scroll 100000x over the horizontal.

The complete absence of the Progress Page, which is my most visited, is absurd because I like seeing more direct details than Up Next provides. I like being able to instantly sort so I can see what’s next, but also then get a quick idea of what has the least time, change the sorts and see views without having to go deep into Settings to change my Up Next for two seconds and then change it back to what I’d like for my Default.

As a point of Glitches, my Up Next on LITE also shows hundreds of things that are shows I’ve dropped, movies my ex maybe streamed 10 years ago and never finished, etc, all of which don’t show up on any of my Apps or Classic Dash. This also may be personal usage bias, but does anyone actually use/want a Continue Watching for Movies? Isn’t that a part of just having the Watchlist on the Home.

As I play with it more, I may have more notes, but thought you’d want some more constructive feedback.

I remember the theory was different when I joined Trakt
Also, the timelines don’t match :man_shrugging:

I said I’d work on communicating some stats.

I thank you very much for this feedback :folded_hands:

So where do i start with the new LITE UI. I feel it might be made for mobil and not for desktop, Witch do make it kind of off clunky to use on desktop. And missing much information you have in the good classic UI.

1: No easy to see indicator that you have VIP or how long you have been a VIP. as you can in the classic.

2: No stats that’s easy to see. Like how many plays , rating , hrs watched off movies or tv shows.

3: The calendar is clunky and at least needs month and week view.

4: Feels like a big downgrade also when going true discover, Since there is no filters or ways to remove things u dont want like u can in the classic.

5: Top icons Media , Shows , Movies needs some kind off indication what they are, other then needing to click on them to find out. On desktop you have no idea what they even are unless you click them.

6: Where is the media progress ? and History , Rating history and such ? feel so much that the classic have is just gone. what makes trakt great.

I also feel like this is horrible on desktop as others have said.

If you are planning to restrict some features (because i cannot see some of them on lite) i prefer the old one. New interface doesnt seem newer or stylish.

OK, so it’s 10px short to a quarter

I don’t need bigger posters. I need readable info, like type, year and title. Currently there’s none of that no matter how big or small the poster is

Hi @kcador, I provided some feedback on the Beta Android app yesterday. Thank you for the quick update removing Watchlisted items from Continue Watching. It helps. I think a lot of the feedback you are getting on the Beta Android app also applies to the new site, since the design is so similar, so hopefully it helps with improvements across platforms.

A few other things missing from both:

  • Indicators for Series Premiere, Series Finale, Season Premiere, Season Finale
  • Filters by streaming services, and ability to hide completed, not completed, etc.
  • Numbers, stats: # of shows in progress, # watched, # of items on my watchlists, etc. This is the only way to verify that 3rd party apps are fully in sync and you are not missing any of your content

I think part of the fear here is losing the very robust tracking mechanisms that the main/old site provides. I think your userbase is probably largely made up of hardcore media consumers who value and want a robust tool beyond lists. We like to tinker with our filters, seeing how many items we have, managing dates, streaming services, and so much more, so even though I understand the new site and apps are still maturing, I hope you will find ways to incorporate all of these robust tools including all the stats, sorting, filtering, fading, hiding, etc. I want to believe we can go with new designs as long as the powerful tools we depend on get incorporated. Most, if not all of them. I see Trakt as my efficient and dependable mega database for my media consumption, where I can organize and see all my data, much more so than just to browse through stuff, and I can only imagine a lot of your users see it the same way, so I am inclined to think some of the rejection may be related to fear that we will lose all this robust functionality in lieu of a streamlined design with fewer bones.

I want to stay away from insults and attacks, and rather try to provide some constructive feedback that hopefully conveys the message of “please don’t get rid of the current site until the new one is as robust and complete in functionality and feature parity”. A watered-down Trakt is not what power users want.

Thank you!

I can’t see more than my watchlist and 4 of my lists. How do I see all of my lists on the web? I can’t reorganize the order of the movies in my list either.

I think Trakt Lite will make many powerusers unsatisfied.

Seems like Trakt is aiming at a new audience.

Feels like a generic streaming site. But that is not trakt. It’s something else entirely and the generic streaming users won’t be interested in the stuff trakt does offer.

Trakt Lite offers some pretty looks. But function over looks ftw.

This new experience is awful for me. I hate the horizontal structure. It takes up more space and makes it extra work to get to the up next shows I want to interact with. The lack of the calendar sucks. I use that all the time. For instance, there is an anime I watch on Fridays. The episode that airs is one ahead of what the calendar says. I am not going to fight with users on TMDB over what the current episode is. I just assume if it is off that it has something to do with how it aired in Japan versus here. That being said, I would hop in the calendar, pick the episode that was already marked as watched, click to the next episode and track it. Now there is no way to easily get to that episode without doing a search for the show. There is also now a big watchlist section for movies taking up a bunch of the app screen. I don’t use this site for movies. I would prefer to shut it off completely. But at least it wasn’t taking up space in the past. The combination of activity with other users and my own activity now being tabbed is also terrible. I look at both regularly and it was nice to scroll down to see mine then scroll a little more to see the recent others. Now I have to click to get to them. Continue watching seems to be messed up a bit too. I am seeing a combo of shows that I dropped, shows I am actually watching, and shows in my watchlist. If I need to clear my watchlist, fine, but why the hell am I getting one or two random shows from my dropped list? I have been using this site for 7 years as a VIP member. If this is going to be the standard moving forward, I think I am done with it. It sacrifices all the usability of the old style to make things look more modern. I’ll take usability over looks any day. I am an Android user, so am referring to that with regards to my comments.

Also, did the new version just totally get rid of ratings? I rate everything and use them to remember how I felt about stuff. I also use the ratings to sort genres to remember my favorites. If there is a way to rate, it certainly isn’t intuitive at all. And I also don’t want to have to click into a second screen to do it. Sometimes I will read a review of an episode that makes me think different about my experience. In the past I could just scroll down to my recent, find the episode and update the rating there. It doesn’t even show what my rating is now, let alone let me change it.

Are there no settings in the app anymore either?

I can’t figure out how to get to the view I want to see the most.

I want to see the shows I’m watching without the watchlist items and have it in order of release date. There is continue watching but that has the watchlist and is sorted differently.

This is the main view I use and I can’t find it anywhere.

Weird, my calendar doesn’t say it’s April 1st.

If this “new Trakt” is meant to be an eventual replacement for “classic Trakt”, it’s either way too early to be calling it the “default” Trakt experience, or Trakt is going in a direction where every single feature I use has been removed. New Trakt is completely unusable to me; if Classic went away tomorrow, I’d have to find another service.

Progress, Library, Calendar are all completely missing. Filtering options are incomplete, and sorting options aren’t there at all. No links to TMDB, etc., no way to report content that needs to be fixed on Trakt’s end. The horizontal scrolling doesn’t work on desktop (Chrome), making some content completely unaccessible. [edit: sorry, I misspoke .. but that it’s taken this long to figure out you have to hover the mouse over the thin invisible scroll bar says something about the UX decisions being made] Clicking into a section like ‘continue watching’ presents an overwhelming wall of tiles, and is just generally less useful than the existing Progress page.

Oh, good that there is a thread. I just “experienced” this modern trakt and I’m in disbelief that this is now the enforced app default.

I really don’t understand how little the developers behind these seem to get what matters to most trakt users. I want to discover content and no, I do not want to discover it by checking some trend list or by checking what my “social” circle is watching.

I want to use the smart advanced filters, the feature that got me to pay for Trakt.

And what does your new standard offer, after about two years in development? Not a single filter. I can’t search what my streaming services offer. I can’t filter by ratings. Heck, it seems that I can’t even filter out content that I already logged as watched on Trakt. Pretty please, make this “future” make sense.

The search function is a great example how pathetic the current state of this app is. It shows you the most popular searches but only allows you to search by name. That’s it. The most basic and rudimentary search possible. Functionality seems irrelevant but we must see what’s popular and trending. Anywhere, at every opportunity. That’s all that matters, for the modern Trakt.

And contrary to your claim that “Trakt Classic” remains and is stable, I reported three weeks ago that 4 rating filter options were broken. Meanwhile most got fixed, metacritic is still broken though.

Since the price increase controversy I pretty much gave up on providing suggestions and feedback. But could you guys at least not mess with the features I paid for, before my VIP subscription runs out? I honestly don’t care anymore what happens afterwards.

P.S.

Writing replies on this forum via tablet is a pain in the ass. Small window, scrolling is a struggle.

I mean, I get some shitty email every Friday from the site with info I don’t give a damn about. Maybe they could have a newsletter for features/changes/etc. instead. Or maybe they can just force us to go try and find what is happening whenever it is happening. What do they care at this point?

How do you mark something as watched that hasn’t aired yet. For example some shows release early on streaming platforms vs linear but I don’t have the ability to to mark them as watched on the new experience.

Alr so where is the history page on the new one? and why is the profile page so lacking, the UI looks ugly too, why is it orange? why is my banner black and white. I pay for VIP to make my stuff look nice. This is ugly.

Edit: I found the History- I’d rather it be on the profile and not the homepage like normal trakt and I’d like to have the time on it like what date and time I watched what, instead of “Today”, “Yesterday” or “Last Tuesday” it’s too smooth brain and does not serve the purpose of tracking
