šŸ’¬ New Trakt Feedback

Showly is a good option and way better than the Trakt app. Who can also try SeriesGuide. I tend to use both phone apps for different things and both connect to Trakt.

I am able to install both apps onto my laptop, but they both work better on my phone though.

I usually use the export symbol on the V2 history page… usually the last symbol at the top I think.

  • Just make sure to break it down and export only a certain date range at a time. If it’s too large an export, then it might crash

He won’t comment, none of them will. They don’t really care about user feedback anymore. This new ā€œTrakt V3ā€ is literally ā€œTrakt Liteā€ from two years ago. Since then, they barely added anything to make it better despite tons of feedback here and on Github, it took them 2 years to realize that maybe, MAYBE they should add persistent sorting to personal lists. And yet, for some unknown reason, they decided to push and force users to use it when they clearly know it was not ready, it is still not ready, and it won’t be nearly close to feature parity six months from now.

This new website is objectively vibe-coded with Gemini, and they know we can check that. It not only has all the visual traits of a generic UI made with AI, but it also features worse performance and way worse UX.

There’s absolutely no reason to push for this, no reason to just let their users keep using V2. They can limit free users however much they want, with item limits, history limits, or whatever, but they know that Trakt is right now a trainwreck whose only destination is shutdown.

And it won’t matter, because Trakt has such a small footprint on the internet that no one will notice it beside us, a few hundred loyal users. If Letterboxd did something like this, you would be seeing big artists and posts on social media with +100k likes protesting against changes, but here? We are just screaming at a void.

This new layout is awful. Normally I’m fine with layout changes. I didn’t even complain when Windows 8 launched. But this is objectively bad. There’s no logical defense for the UI or UX decisions.

Like Windows 8, it feels like it was designed for a tablet rather than how people actually use it. Unfortunate.

If I had the time, I’d just build my own platform with the core features I care about, mainly tracking the shows I watch, since that’s all I use it for anyway. Perhaps it’s time to switch, I’ve seen Letterboxd and a few others mentioned.

The new layout is terrible!!! It’s all compact, no space so everything looks jumbled together and there’s no difference between seen, suggested etc.

I find it hard to see the shows as the icons are all small so there’s lots of them squashed together.

Took a long time to find the horizontal scrolling option left to right and it’s useless as everything is still just jumbled and squashed together.

Preferred the vertical scrolling and upcoming episodes on my dashboard. I don’t care about the episodes/shows I’ve already seen, that’s history.

I miss the calendar, it wasn’t great but I could at least see what shows I’d missed and when my shows were airing new seasons.

Now when I see upcoming episodes, there’s no aired date.

Seriously, create a survey of your users BEFORE you update the wesite because now it’s completely useless.

Have you seen the number of people who want to bring back the old version??

I see no sign of reaction from official staff to the negative feedback. I have switched now to another service which has the core tracking features I care about with an UI I can work with.

Forcing the V3 UI on the Trakt website after already knowing about user feedback.. I have no words for that

I had a similar post like you. Expect yours to be removed and this account banned as well once the admins wake up

The AI translation using mexican regionalisms SUCKS. Why does all V3 feel like made completly by AI?

I’ve started vibe coding my own frontend for the Trakt API. To be honest, it’s going better than I expected, and I’ll probably keep iterating and use it instead of the official website…

If you want to convert your Json files to CVS you can drop it into claude code and it should be able to convert it for you.

It’s also easy to convert if you use Excel Power Query.

There’s no way to see Guest Stars in things. That seems like a pretty big missing feature. Honestly all the missing features on this godawful update just makes the team look incompetent.

you can see guest stars in the iOS app at least in each episode, or it’s also on the web version but it’s only at the series level for now

The calendar doesn’t work the way I used it in V2 — there’s no way to use it monthly, and dropped/hidden items are showing up.

Have they removed the option to see the full list of everything you’ve ever watched? I don’t mean ā€œHistoryā€ (although it would also be nice to have that back in a usable format). I mean the master list that you could sort/filter any way you liked. So for example, I could see a list of every movie I’ve ever rated a 10, or every movie I’ve seen from the 50s.

I can’t tell whether this feature is gone or whether it’s just well-hidden in the new interface. (Also, this is my first time on the forums, and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to create a new topic.)

The New UI seems to lack quite a few basic features from the old experience:

  • Is there a way to scroll the horizontal lists? Like all of them? I see that there’s quite a few of them automatically adapted for the screen size (like ā€œHomeā€ page), but not all of them are. See for example the actor page Trakt Web: Track Your Shows & Movies or Show page https://app.trakt.tv/shows/the-pitt?season=1 - I don’t see a way for me to scroll the lists on my Mac. This seems to be only usable with a touch screen mobile device.
  • At the same time, If I look at the specific Movie or Episode, I should be able to manage the ā€œviewsā€. I sometimes watch things again, and may want to check if the history is correct. This seems to be missing from the new experience entirely except for adding a new view. I can only add 1, or remove all my ā€œviewsā€ of specific content.
  • The History page forces me into ā€œCalendarā€ style view, while the old experience allowed me to just show a list of views without any separation - for my watching experience this usually makes more sense, as I rarely watch something consistently and may want to check up on a thing a few months later or even a year - in new experience this is entirely unavailable basically. (I need either a Episode/Movie style option for checking my history or just the full unfiltered page of History back for Web experience to be usable again).

to scroll sideways use shift plus your scroll wheel on your mouse for now. i know it’s not what we want but it’s a workaround for now

the view history is being worked on

I can’t add/remove titles from a list while within a list. I have to leave the list and go to the title page to manage the lists it is on. And the list sidebar does not correctly update when I tag/untag the list a title is on. For example, if I’m in list A and want to move a title to list B, I can’t do it from list A. I have to go to the title page, click to edit the list, and check/uncheck the desired lists. But the side panel does not update when I do this, so the only way to confirm the title is on the list I want is to go to each list and confirm its presence on that list.

Option to not fade watched titles when viewing lists. I do like to fade watched titles sometimes, but it’s not my default viewing preference.

Option to use single tiles instead of double tiles for list. The double -tile view is too cluttered and it makes it harder for me to scan the list.

Link to Wikipedia and TMDB from a title page.

Allow for a non-grouped history view and allow for far more than a tiny 5-day viewing window. Takes forever to click through and see what I watched a few months ago.

Make collections prominent again instead of pushed down to the bottom. It was very useful being able to navigate to the next title in a series from the header. In almost exactly the same vein, make it possible to jump from one season of a show to the next season without having to navigate to the parent page for that show.

Use a 10 star rating system instead of 5 star. Also I’m confused. It seems sometimes I can use a half-star in the 5-star system and at other times I can’t use a half-star. With the absence of half star, the 5 star rating is too coarse. There’s a huge difference between a 3/5 (60%) and 4/5 (80%) We need 3.5/5 to get a 70%, or better yet just go back to the 10 star system.

The hide spoilers setting shouldn’t hide the basic title descriptions.

The ability to filter/sort entire viewing history. I can no longer find my top rated movies.

View guest stars for tv episodes.

Bring back the progress page. I used that a lot.

I much much prefer the layout of V2. Well, I much much prefer V2. That is an understatement. I love V2. I hate V3.

Just to add my two cents, I was a paying VIP customer, but the force to the v3 UI has made me cancel my subscription and seek competitors to use instead of Trakt. I will miss the once-great Trakt, but it clearly is no longer a service that wants to listen to its users and is not something I can recommend to friends and family anymore either.
