💬 New Trakt Feedback

That is not why we are doing it. I gave that piece of information for context.

It has been addressed in my reply.

Request to fix what? Recently released features include emoji reactions to comments and make as watched at unknown date, both highly requested features. All bugs are still being addressed and we do not intend to stop supporting Classic. I’m just not sure what you are referring to here.

Thanks for this feedback!
Could you please share why you’d like to have the link? If we can integrate the information you are looking for directly in the app, we will!

I personally use TMDB link so I can easily grab a certain poster for when I share what I’m currently watching on social media. Having the ability to see all the available posters and save them would be a nice feature of Trakt, especially if given the choice to pick what poster is displayed on our profiles.

“All bugs are still being addressed and we do not intend to stop supporting Classic.”

Can you precise your sentance please. When you said trakt classic will be in maintenance mode, for me it means it won’t be supported anymore. And completely removed at some point. Let’s be honest here, if the first is true (maintenance mode) the second is obviously true (it will be completely removed at some point).

Why use Notepad where you can use Notepad++? :stuck_out_tongue:

Did users asked for LITE or developers get bored? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well that’s kinda obvious why we want external id links back…. Trakt is crowd sourced by external sites. How else would Trakt be updated. So to get things updated we have two way to update.

  1. Click on the external link from the item detail page.
  2. Go to the external link website by going there in a new tab, then have to search for the item.

I and most ppl would prefer the first.

To be honest, for you to ask this question to most of us is a bit condescending because as a trakt developer, we assume you would know why we need those links.

Yes, I noticed too on the trakt android app. Clicking on IMDb just open the IMDb app in the play store. Not much useful.

Was much better when it opened a new web age with directly with the movie link. Same for tmdb. Don’t forget people like us need to be able to adjust and correct data sources too like the other said above. Having ids and links to these platforms is a must have.

And they are welcome to do so… like anyone is welcome to use our own Public API for free to do it. You can even start from our open source web version if you want to get a head start :victory_hand:

I mean the git is public: Pull requests ¡ trakt/trakt-web ¡ GitHub
What’s unclear to me is how the overall design and vision started out. Why was it’s focus being “LITE” and app-esque and then suddenly sufficient enough to replace the full trakt experience while cutting away core site features? Bugs and errors are not addressed while they’re busy adding halloween theme support… Justin is not involved in any of these - he and the team built this site up and secured the initial funding this is running on; I hope you can understand why it’s alienating to have all that replaced by essentially a playground that disregards the current ecosystem (website and official apps).

As it stands this is still far from being ready or stable. You can ask for even more testers but I had my experience with that –> ignored. And since you already prefaced this with axing the proper site I see no saving this.

PS: Those numbers don’t mean much if we don’t know the user retention or the scope of how they’re using trakt. Can you start out on lite? Sure, but they will probably never build any deeper appreciation of what trakt actually offers or used to be. Lite is only competing against other apps atp. Other competitors will eat the desktop market up… (I also assume existing users were ignored there because the same reactions you got on here.)

I’ll rephrase and edit my post: when I said “website” there I meant Classic, New and our official apps.

Not as a result. It is a result of what we are doing.

I don’t know how to answer this other than with everything else I said.

I’m trying to give as much context as I can.

When I say “we do not intend to stop supporting Classic” and “Classic is in maintenance mode”, I want to say the the same thing: if there are bugs/issues with Classic, we will fix/address them.

It doesn’t mean that we drop everything and stop fixing things on Classic.

I’m sorry if it felt condescending. It was not my intention.

By asking that question, I received this answer, which is a good feature request.

My question wasn’t to dismiss your valid use case either. That’s why I complemented my question with: “if we can integrate the information you are looking for directly in the app, we will!”.

This is because we were flagged by Google on our current Play Store version for using external links. We are being careful with external links for the time being.

Of course.

I use TMDB because in some cases it allows me to get the title of the series or film in French. The episode summaries are also in French.

I understand English, but it’s nice to be able to read certain details in your own language.

I found out recently that the new “Lite” version will someday become the default version of Trakt. I ignored it before because at a glance I did not like it. I spent some time with it today and I still don’t like it. I primarily use the Dashboard, the show pages, the episode pages, and Search. Here are some of my initial thoughts on the Dashboard…

I don’t like the separation of “Continue Watching” and “Start Watching”. I primarily watch TV shows and TV episodes, so I like having the one Up Next section showing what shows are available. I like today’s sections for Up Next and Watchlist as they more closely align to how I choose what to watch.

I do not like the episode thumbnails. They make it difficult to see what the Show actually is. It is so much easier to decide what I want to watch based on a large Show picture.

I don’t see the value of knowing how many episodes and how many minutes are left to watch. I got confused with how YouTube and other streamers show you how much time is remaining in the video you started watching. Putting this together with my previous note about episode thumbnails, you are actually mixing two concepts – showing you the next episode to watch (as a thumbnail) but placing on top of it information about not the episode but the show (how many episodes are left to watch). That is confusing.

The order of the episodes makes no sense, and there doesn’t appear to be a way to change the order. I guess it’s in order of what you last watched? But that’s not helpful to me. I don’t binge shows. I watch one episode of a show and then I watch an episode of a different show.

The minus symbol (“-”) is not good UI. While it may imply a thing you can compress (like in a tree structure), as a standalone symbol on a page like this, it implies a list item, and this is not a list. Another confusing aspect of the page.

What is with all the white space at the top of the page? I like the summary info at the top of the current Trakt page.

Generally speaking, the current dashboard looks better to me because all of the images are bigger, which is great for me because I primarily use Trakt on my iPad, and occasionally on my computer. When I use Trakt on my phone it’s mainly for Search. I do not use the apps.

That’s all I have for now. I have not seen if the current “classic” Trakt will be available after the “Lite” version becomes the default, but it should be.

It will not. No way they are going to support two versions that are so different for much longer. For example, the new Trakt has a rate system with 5 stars, while the classic Trakt has 10 hearts. I have a rating system where 1-4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 hearts are all very different from each other, and have a meaning to me (based on rewatchability and recommendation potential) so if I can’t give 3.5 or 4.5 stars, the new site is completely useless to me.

Yes, the rating system change is a big deal to me too. I checked a movie I rated 7 in Classic, and when I switch to Lite, it shows it as 4/5. I’ve got more than a decade of data using a 10 stars or 5 stars with 1/2 ratings. Making a major change like the degrees of precision makes it difficult to properly compare ratings before and after the change. I’d recommend anyone to take an export or backup of your Trakt data now to make sure you have a preserved copy of your data as it currently is.

Yeah the rating system is a big deal, a 7/10 is not the same as a 4/5. If they’re going forward with the 5 star system then at least give us half stars. There is no good way to convert a rating out of 10 to a rating out of 5. This change alone ruins years worth of ratings

I don’t like horizontal scrolling on websites. full stop. and I agree with everyone that going from 10 stars down to 5 with no option for half stars is a bad choice. There was nothing wrong with Trakt classic. I didn’t mind the cosmetic changes from a few years ago, because I actually prefer purple over red, but this new layout is not it. I don’t use the Trakt app, because I spent hours on the classic Trakt webpage when I first signed up logging all the thing’s I’ve watched over the years, I have gotten very very used to the Trakt Classic layout. I love the site how it is, the new Trakt is cluttered, messy, and makes it harder to find things. I spent a while looking for the word “History”, since that ‘s what it has always been called on Trakt Classic, only to feel dumb when I see it’s now “Recently Watched”. And that leads you to not a cleanly laid out page with each day’s plays separated by date, no, it’s one giant grid of tiny thumbnails with vague dates like “last Sunday”. That has to change.

I think people are being a little harsh now, but I appreciate this response. I don’t mind change. What I do mind is when features I used are taken away from me or dumbed down.

So long as classic is still an option as is, or the new trakt eventually has all features that are currently missing, then I’ll be happy.
