💬 New Trakt Feedback

Yet another developer rolling out a half baked app.

I could not add anything to any list other than the watch list for the first day.

I can’t click into a movie or series and see my watch history. I have to either scroll through the decade of watch history or go onto the website defeating the purpose of the app.

Something as basic a rating is held off the initial launch, which forces me to head to the website or exit the beta group to rate something at the moment.

This might be a fresh design but it’s a dated one. The app still looks cluttered. Horizantal scrolling is the vein of my internet existence and it pains me that you are just rolling it out.

I like covers and you have now taking the focus away to provide me with a mostly blank box. This is what I call a waste of space. And no I don’t want to have more information there. I prefer the older layout with the rating, watching, list, and collected without having to go into the movie or show.

Can’t click on a 3 dot menu on a item as the menu crashes and says uh oh
this wasn’t planned from within my list.

Want to share your collecting with a friend while in person who does not want to use this service? Nah go on the website to do that.

All the customization were removed and should be brought back. I don’t care for what you think I should have as my main menu options. We all use the app differently.

List are no longer in the order I set them up to be.

The only use I can see for this current beta is to find something to watch that are not released or a popular. Something I can do for free anywhere.

As Captain Falcon once said, “Do better”

All this sounds fair and reasonable enough. And it would be something to look forward to.

The only problem is trust. Trakt in general has destroyed so much trust and confidence in the past year, I simply can’t see how I should blindly believe the promise that existing essential features won’t be substantially downgraded. Or even completely vanish.

After all we must loudly protest to see even the most basic standards upheld, like that rating should use a x/10 system and not x/5 or even a thumbs up or down system.

If something so basic is in jeopardy, why and how should I be certain that you understand and respect even more complex and essential features and designs?

The last app had its use despite being an immense downgrade in functionality, compared to the desktop experience. It’s simply unexplainable to me why you guys chose to replace that less functional app, by this lite version that it is even less functional in every aspect. The immediate impression is that Trakt apps are only about one thing: Constant feature erosion.

It was so so so unwise to enforce this barebone project onto everyone. People are right when they classify the lite app as pre beta. It might be stable but to me it’s not more useful than a UI projection.

Hello on my side I notice 2 regressions:

  1. Mobile app for the Up next section is slow to load
  2. There is a diff between up next section between old version and new version.

Thanks in advance.

In the settings on the new web experience, you can change the language of the UI to French. This will also change the language of the media metadata.

If what you are looking for is something else (like the UI in English and titles/summaries in French, or everything in English except for French original titles,
), let me know!

Merci!

This is not what I said. I’m using Rippple for my day-to-day personal usage. I fallback to Trakt on the web when I need to do something I can’t with Rippple. This currently means using Classic.
I’m also using a lot of other third-party apps and integrations.
Now, to do my work properly, I’m currently using the new experience on my iPhone, iPad, Android (test) phone and Mac. And as I said, I’m switching between Classic and New all the time depending on what I want to do.
I am not a big TV user. This is the only thing you could say I’m not using.

This is not a yes or no question at this time. A real politician would tell you “yes” or “no” to get your vote, I’m not going to do that.

I’ll ask around to see if we can get that fixed.

Sometimes things slip through the cracks. If something needs fixing and is important to you, please let us know, we may have missed it.

I did. My answer is: focus.

Removed from the roadmap but isn’t lost. It’s also not saying we are abandoning the idea. We are just showing the current focus in the public roadmap. You can still request features and get votes for them.
Bug reports and feature requests are not treated the same way.

I’ll do better because your first question was “Why does this support this change?” → currently Day 1 retention for new users is double what it is on Classic.

I’m pointing out that saying “as a result” implies a direct consequence when, in fact, it is a result of what we are doing.

I don’t believe we disregarded them. We released early versions before those workflows were fully supported. We’re acknowledging the gaps and are actively bringing those workflows back, not ignoring them.

Fair enough!

Forcing is a strong word.
We did that for a while actually, there is a switch in Classic to get to the New experience. It has just recently been renamed from LITE to New.

Both!

Something we are also going to work on.

How can you say that for sure?

So maybe for those workflow we will copy the Classic. We are not against copying our own work, we just want to make sure we can’t do better along the way.

I understand why you say that. The previous version worked well for a lot of people, yes. But “working” and “future-proof” aren’t the same. The goal is to keep what people loved while making it possible to do even better.

Classic will remain available as long as it is needed to support the workflows that the new experience does not yet fully cover.

No decision has been made to keep or discontinue Trakt Classic after that.

We first need to reach that point where:

  • the new experience fully supports the essential workflows
  • the majority of users feel comfortable switching
  • Classic has naturally become less necessary

Hope this clarifies things.

Sorry I skipped it.
The Library (things you own a digital or physical version of) will be available soon. We are currently working on it.
We are looking at ways to improve the mark as collected. We want to make sure users mark real collected items and not use the Library as another list.

You have “Continue Watching” (what you started watching and can continue watching) and “Start Watching” (what you added in your Watchlist) in the Home tab.
You have access to your Watchlist in the Lists tab.
You can see what you watched under your Profile “Recently Watched” or at the bottom of the Home tab under “Recently Watched” (this changed recently based on feedback we received these last days).

We will get back to you on each point in other threads. I can already say we have plans for all of those.

Thank you for the prioritized list and the details on your use cases :folded_hands:

Hollow words really! You stopped caring 2 years ago. If you’d have listened to Feedback the app wouldn’t look like a third grader designed it.

The reason you get such big numbers is not because you’re doing such a great job but it’s the lack of actual competitors to the OG version of trakt.

Also those numbers you were throwing out there mean nothing if you don’t actually state the numbers of accounts that went inactive in the past year. How many of those new accounts are actually paying customers vs how many VIPs did you loose over the last 12 months?! There’s also a staggering amount of fake/AI accounts and I don’t think you counted them out. You’re also benefiting from years of people recommending your site and this being less and less of a niche activity. Exponential growth would have happened either way.

Overall I’m not convinced. You’re talking a lot without actually saying anything. Your last statement didn’t actually clarifying things it was just the same BS you mentioned before. There is nothing definitive in your words. It’s still not clear if you actually keep classic alive forever.

I hate what Trakt has become, acting like the big corpo which they are not. For years I recommended this service because I thought this is awesome now I just don’t tell people about it anymore. Trakt lite doesn’t stand out. Which is why I mentioned before: why should the new customers pay for this if they can get the same thing for free as soon as this becomes a paid app only?

If or when the day that Trakt Classic is discontinued comes, I certainly do hope that it’s done in a wiser and more acceptable manner than confronting us without previous notice that Classic is history.

You know, just like you replaced the old app with Lite recently, without informing in advance or asking any of your customers if they think that Lite is well developed enough to replace the old app.

If Trakt Classic should be phased out, I’d like to know that one year in advance. So that nobody who relies on Classic will be paying for features that you might take away from them.

I would really like to be able to send you guys feedback from directly within the shows or movies page. As it is now I always have to look all over the place trying to find where best to leave you a message or feedback regarding an error or issue. For instance, if a movie is on Prime Video and you don’t show out available on Prime Video, I would like to be able to click a button within the movie page to provide you with the feedback that the movie is available on Prime, etc. Thanks.

That’s something you should report on Justwatch, as they provide the data. And even reporting directly on their page is rather futile, by my experience.

This is my Trakt classic history (don’t ask why i watchi this way haha)

This is my trakt lite history:

Can I configure it to look like my old history pls?

Not sure if this is intended design or a bug but I have movies in my continue watching that I have in fact finished, I just didn’t watch the credits. “classic” sees these as watched (Because I have watched them) whereas “new/lite” sees them as unfinished with around 8-10 minutes left to watch.

Suggestion:

The Media/Movies/ Shows icon at the top of the pages should be floating.

It is inconvenient to scroll down then want to change media type, having to scroll back to the top.

The “NEW” design of the website
my first reaction: O NOOO, my eyes! I’m blind!
Luckily, there’s a dark mode — thank you for that, at least.

I’ve been using Trakt for a long, long time and loved it from day one. It was simple, clear, and just worked. In the beginning, tracking shows was effortless thanks to plugins for Plex or Jellyfin. Then came the paid subscriptions — and somehow tracking got more and more complicated. Eventually, Plex added built-in tracking, so Trakt wasn’t really needed anymore
but as a loyal fan of the site and its community, I kept using it.

What I’ve always loved most are the easy-to-browse trending lists for movies and shows. With one quick glance, I could see what I’d watched and what I hadn’t. Sadly, with this “NEW” design, that’s no longer the case.

And don’t get me started on the page load times — I have a gigabit connection, and the classic pages loaded in a second or two. The new ones? Ten to fifteen seconds! That’s some next-level “improvement.”

I honestly have the feeling that every update these days ends up being some kind of downgrade. Please, Trakt team — fix this terrible new iPad-app-style website and bring back something real.
