Hi, There’s apparently been a recent change on the search results layout, where the results are presented now inside a div with a ‘data-url’ property and a javascript event on click to bring you to the result page.
This in itself is not bad, but has an inconvenience : for movies with a similar name (or the same exact name, which is quite frequent) I relied on hovering over the result to see the href status which has the year in it. With the new Javascript event, there is no classic href link so it’s rather inconvenient to try and find the right result, sometimes amongst 50 results on the page the one you’re looking for not being even in the first row of results.
While you may have legit reasons to break the normal http links towards the page with their proved and tested functionality, one does have to try and guess if the results they’re about to open is the one they’re actually looking for. (and sometimes have to open several in order to fin the right one).
Also the javascript event has another annoyance : there is no “right click->open in a new tab” another “a href” standard function that is broken by this change.
I use the search all the time, these changes are definitely not good from the usability point of view. Now consider this scenario:
A search I make yield several results with the same name:
– I can’t find the year of the result by hovering
– I can’t open several tabs to examine the results, instead i have to open, go back open again, go back until i find the one I wanted. As John oliver would put it: “cool”
I open the search page, make a few searches in succession, opening the results I want in a new tab for later examination.
– nope, that’s broken
Basically you just broke the search page functionnality, please go back to normal hypertext links
As you can see on the capture : no "open in new tab on the right click menu, the main “a ref” link is gone, there’s a link all right into the div of class “titles has worded images”, but it’s not clickable because the div is not big enough.
This is a very recent change, 36 hours ago the links on the search results were working properly (I do between 15 and 60 searches in a session, depending, almost every day, and yesterday i did one all was good, today however the change happened) (I tried on chromium and FF too, same problem)
Oh and incidentally this search results shows also the problem with 3 movies with the exact same name Which is the right one mmm ? have to guess…
Yes, I’m in the process of updating these views to allow tv show titles to be clickable instead of only having episode links.
Looks like you’re using poster view. For now, you can choose several other search layouts from the settings page. Some have the title and year already visible.
Hi, well that seems to sort of solves the problems of links temporarily, though it’d be nice to have the links back in poster view (which is better for searching movies imho). Can’t wait until you finish the update
Is right click menu still going to be fixed though? As I use multi-account containers to manage my families account at times by opening link in a separate container tab, among other right click menu items that are no longer available.
I noticed as well that middle click functionality does not work for opening in a new tab(I personally use this the most as it just takes one click).
I noticed this too, it really bugs me as I’m used to middle mouse clicking over ctrl clicking, and I would often open 20+ tabs this way while in the TV or Movies sections. I also find it much much easier to do and hope that middle mouse clicking will make a return.
Edit: You’re able to middle mouse click the titles of the shows/movies but again, I’m not used to that as I would previously just middle mouse click the poster. It’s likely just my preference but I suppose I can try to get used to the changes.
I can confirm that for the poster view is restored to the normal behavior, actually even better since now the right click menu lets you also open the image in a new tab, whereas before you had to navigate to the movie page to do that (occasionally I take the pic from there for uploading to my Plex when the image is missing in the metadata import or is unsatisfactory :)).
