This is why it would be so helpful if we could edit the csv/JSON files on our home computers to edit / add the metadata and then re-upload them to fix our libraries.
Why does it have to be required to choose a format and resolution? I add lots of things to my library almost daily, but I don’t care about what format they are, I just like knowing what I already have. It was a lot easier to just click the add right now button without having to add any extra stuff.
This first step of requiring to choose a format and resolution has been pushed on Trakt V2. We are going to monitor the impact of this change over the next weeks.
This is important because it makes the Library structured enough to be really useful as a list of items you own and intentionally mark as such. This requirement enables better filtering, sorting, and future improvements. Without this, the Library would just be an easy to access List. And this is something we want to avoid given the underlying data structure of the Library. But it could be a good feature idea for List management.
Will this change result in items being moved from the split Libraries I’ve ended up with? In other words, if I adjust a digital file that is incorrectly being tagged as a BluRay by the metadata import of a Plex Sync because it contains the words “BluRay” from BluRay to Digital, will it then move it over / back to where it should be?
Thanks for the info. First time I was hearing of this. I just wanted a simple one click option, I don’t have time for lists or import/export. I will cancel the VIP and seek external alternatives. Thanks for the memories!
PLEASE add an option for default format and resolution. Adding a default value for these two fields will solve a lot of issues with this process. Thanks, T
edit: but ya adding 5 clicks to a 1 click process would seem to be a huge programming no-no…
Hello, I have over 3,000 films in my library, which I’m already taking the time to add to by format, but resolution isn’t important to me. If I understand correctly, my library doesn’t meet your strict criteria, so it’s going to disappear? Become unusable? Thank you for your answers.
I agree with everyone here; if something works, there’s no reason to change it.
For several weeks now, I’ve been regularly checking the latest Trakt updates, and I find the direction you’re taking very worrying. The new Android app has really lost fluidity and functionality; listing them all here would be far too long. I’ve given up on using it and am sticking with the old version of the website. I always expect to see it disappear any day now in favor of the horrible new version. I really hope you are working on restoring all the old features that until now justified the price AND the increase of a VIP subscription.
I have just re-signed up to Trakt as VIP in an attempt to build a library that I can browse on Apple TV. I have a large physical media collection. When I login to the tvOS app I cannot see my library anywhere. How do I access it? I have added a few movies to try it, when I search for those titles they show as in my library, I just can’t seem to browse my library. Any ideas?
Yeah, this is just adding extra steps to simply add something to my library. Canceling my VIP. You just made Trakt useless for those that simply use it to track shows/movies they watch and upcoming releases.
Can you please address this issue that prevents people with “full” libraries from updating their items to abide by these new rules?
@tcider Well give them a day or two, they will surely respond
What about a page with filters “pre-made” that directly show all content that are missing metadata or information?
Reminder for all the Jellyfin users: GitHub - jellyfin/jellyfin-plugin-trakt
This official Jellyfin plugin can sync your Jellyfin library / collection to Trakt, both ways. And it can sync the metadata automatically as well.
@kcador What’s your input on this? For me there are bug on trakt side. Some columns are not filled when exported to CSV.
And sometimes we have error 500 when exporting.
Could you check those two issues please?
on the v2 site you can filter your library to only show items missing metadata. i’ve used that to go through some of mine and fill in data
But the library has some important differences from a list, even without metadata. You can immediately tell if an item is collected, either from the main page or the icon on the poster. And you can use the collected/not collected filter.
I don’t understand this. I have 431 items in my library, all digitally purchased from various stores like Amazon, Google, and so on. I’m not interested in the resolution; some are Full HD, others are 4K.
These items belong in my library because I own them. They should stay there. That’s exactly why I use Trakt — to track what I’ve collected & watched.
I have zero interest in editing or touching these 431 items.
It feels like you’re restricting these features just so people don’t misuse the library, in order to push your VIP program.
And no, I will not accept my items being moved/converted to a regular list.
They belong in my library, and I expect them to stay there as they are.
Agree, not either interested in resolution since I don’t know it but I have tried to add my digital with 1090p the most common resolution in Europe and my vhs collection with 790p the lower resolution
And same 1090p for DVD but haven’t had the time nor.. in adding on episode level, just to find out that trakt is to stupid to understand that everything in that season is the same type dvd, resolution etc
Found I have +250 items in collection library that I can’t change on website where it says I have forgotten both episodes and movies
Movie I am almost 110% sure I added all information on are the hobbit collection I have
See picture
- I have over 1,000 physical media items, do I need to reach out to support for a larger limit?
- Would it be possible to add 4K Blu-ray as one of the format options?
- Many movies I own have multiple formats such as 3D+Blu-ray, could support be added for logging more than one format for a given item?
You just made the library inconsistent, because my historical library is now wrong, or uninformed.
Your gaslighting statement makes no sense.
My new entries have to have a format and resolution,
whilst there are none (or you have chosen arbitrary ones) on my old entries.
Thank you for breaking this website for me.
Adding the metadata feature for people that wished for it is fair enough, but for the life of me it makes no sense to force it upon people that do not want to waste their time with it. Having worked with large databases, I do know there is absolutely no need for this.
To address the problem of people that like me do not care about metadata, a setting where we can set a default value for the mandatory fields would probably just resolve our issue, and bring the “add to library” back to a 1 click action.
