I am new here checking things out. But what is the point of all this?? Especially the Plex “Scrobler”. Plex keeps track of everything already, I can access it any where in the world on any device. Why would I need another website keeping track of what I watch or add to my server? Am I missing something?
I’m not sure how plex works exactly (not a user) however I’m guessing one of the main benefits would be trakt integration keeping record of your “watched percentage” as in if watched 50% of a movie then stopped, then went back to it from a different device (even in a different location) you would have the ability to continue on watching from where you left off originally…Perhaps Plex already has this ability?, not sure
Yes, Plex will track everything in Plex. If you want Trakt to know what you’ve watched, what you are watching etc, you use scrobbling.
For me, Trakt is my “source of truth”. I use Trakt with calendars and custom lists. So my Trakt dashboard shows what I’m watching, what is up next etc. All based on what I’ve watched on Plex.
For me it’s the same as the above user, Trakt it my source of truth. I also use Plex, but that’s not my only source of media (we also have a local streaming service that doesn’t integrate).
I generally don’t keep watched items, especially TV shows, on Plex, meaning it’s not easily findable what I’ve watched and not watched before. Especially after using Trakt for almost 9 years now, I can say I’ve had countless times where I thought, “Hey, that movie looks interesting”, but then I see in Trakt I’ve watched (and rated) it a couple years ago.
The biggest advantage for me for using Trakt instead of just relying on Plex to keep track of everything is that it will keep you up to date on new seasons, new episodes etc. Plus it will give you suggestions by seeing what others are watching. Add to that the really annoying flaw in Plex that series in your watchlist aren’t hidden once you’ve watched the current season which to be frank makes the Plex Watchlist a fairly useless feature.
