It seems to me that on iOS there is a very healthy amount of good working apps for Trakt but it is missing on Android. Why develop one for iOS instead of creating one for Android. This is very confusing.

We’re starting with iOS since that is what we know, and plan to expand to android after that. Check out trakt.tv/apps which has many 3rd party android apps you can try out in the meantime.

Why is this confusing ? it is a business decision that it’s legit as the majority uses iPhone, the market is clear. On android apps exists for trakt use. Maybe not that good because you know…android 
, but you can find some.
Also a lot of people are using the web mobile interface of trakt and they find it more useful than any app. try it.

Don’t really understand this, especially considering there is a pretty equal selection of apps on iOS and Android, at least that are on https://trakt.tv/apps.

Hobi is a really good app that’s on both iOS and Android, which I’ve used since it was released (not affiliated) on iOS until the official app came out and never had any issues with it.
It’s also a lot harder to develop an an app for Android than it is for iOS, for iOS you pick an iOS version, build the app and 9/10 it’ll work on every iPhone or iPad that supports that iOS. Android has different screen sizes you need to take into account, and no real dedicated tool for creating apps. It’s pretty easy to make an app for iOS in a few hours, release it on the App Store and you can pretty much guarantee it’ll run on all the latest phones without fault.

Majority? In the US, yes (honestly I don’t know why). Around the world its definitely Android.
Anyhow, I’m quite happy with seriesguide for Android and Trakt.

I haven’t liked any app on iPhone as much as I enjoy Trakt’s own native app. So why not?
And they’re the developers. They can start where they want.

I use the web app on my Windows Desktop and on my Android Phone. Trakt is that way is a great method for me. I haven’t liked any of the other android apps.

I am using the web interface and I have no qualms. I’d need a reason to switch to an app after it’s made. Functionality is there and no app necessary, perfect!
@justin Out of curiosity, what is the need for official Trakt apps when many third-party choices work well? Does the API have restrictions for third-party developers that the official app doesn’t? Does the official app have more features? Why spend resources on in-house development?

for me it shows progress, willingness and that they are dedicated to the site and will never let it die. That is enough for me.
As for limit or new features that someone my thing the official app will have i don’t believe so, they will never pull a TVDB here.

With an official app, we have more control of the Trakt experience and also can try some new things to see if they can work better and easier then the website currently does. A big focus of the app is making it more approachable for the casual user.
We use the same Trakt API, but there are some things the Trakt app will do that 3rd party apps can’t. The big one is watch now streaming links. Our agreement with JustWatch allows watch now links in the official Trakt app, but not via the Trakt API for 3rd party apps. We can also offer VIP features in app (year in review, etc) and your VIP membership unlocks these features on the website and mobile app.

Ever stop to consider the userbase may skew more towards iOS than it does Android? Look at the currently available apps on the apps page. iOS has always had more than Android. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong. But if the majority of people using my service is using a particular platform well I’m going to cater to that platform.
I’d also want to know the VIP breakdown between iOS and Android. In my small group of friends people do not like paying for services. That’s universal. However, my iOS using friends are far more likely to do so. Again, I’m not saying that’s the case with Trakt.
Finally, I, too, would work on the platform I’m most familiar with first. That just makes the most sense.
