Advanced search and bulk moving items

I just want to explain what I’m looking for, and then I hope you’ll consider adding it to Trakt. It seems this will be long so thanks in advance for reading. It’s mainly about your advanced search tool. I want to do a search, and then bulk add/move my search results to a list.

In IMDb I will frequently use advanced search to build my lists. Advanced search is my discover feature
Release date: between Januray 1 1990 and January 1 2100
IMDb rating: Above 7.5/10
Number if votes: more than 30.000 votes
Countries: Exclude United States
Exclude: Rated movies

This is a great way to find quality movies I have not seen before. USA obviously got quality movies, but let us say you wanted to avoid hollywood that day. After 1990 so it can still feel somewhat modern. Number of votes removes the super niche with high rating. I find this tool incredibly useful for this use case at least. Now why am I looking into Trakt when I could be using IMDb? Well there are many reasons I’m looking into alternatives, but IMDb not allowing me to bulk move items in lists is the largest

Trakt also got advanced search! Why can’t I use that? Well I’m specifically looking to use it with the bulk move items tool. Lets look at use cases

  1. I want to create a list of Indian movies. I can search for imdb rating, add minimum number of votes and select country. I get the results, but then I still have to manually add them to a list one by one. It would be so convenient to bulk add them.

  2. I want to recommend some Indian movies to a friend. I select movies I have rated above 8/10 and country India. Add to list. Share list. Simple. Then I if I wanted I could manually add / remove individual movies depending on their specific tastes of course.

  3. I want to move out old movies from my watchlist. I’m unlikely to watch them and it would just be better to have them in a separate list. How do I do that? It’s not a media type and it’s not a genre. So I would need to do it from advanced search. But sadly I can’t. My filter would be movies released before january 1 1970. Then I’d move them from watchlist to the new list. But this is not something I can do.

  4. My father got specific tastes in movies but I don’t want to watch something I’ve seen before with him. Hide seen movies. Genre action and comedy. Imdb 7.0 and higher. Number of votes 30.000. Country USA and UK. Copy to list. Now he can choose a movie from this list on the TV app.

Now this is my most wanted feature. Bulk moving items combined with advanced search. And to have this advanced search directly inside an existing list. I have wanted it for many years by now. I rely on lists because I can’t remember what I’ve watched or what I plan to watch. I make lists with movies I plan to watch with a specific person. I make lists with movies from certain time periods or countries. Maybe some of my lists can be replaced by a more convenient to use search tool, but that’s not happened yet.

Another reason I really want this. Playlists! Let’s create a Christmas playlist as an example. I can show my friends and family a list what I have access to and then they can pick the movie. But how do I do that? With the Justwatch integration I can see where movies, tv episodes and short films are available. And with the collected feature I can see what’s on my Plex or my Apple TV purchased movies or in my shelf of blu-rays. Oh that reminds me. In the collected metadata it would be great to say where it’s collected.

Another feature I would LOVE is merging watchlists with a friend. My friend and I want to watch a movie. What movies do we both have in our watchlist?

The TV app. Selecting the Shows tab could show my tv shows from my watchlist. Selecting the movies tab could show the movies from my watchlist. If I want an old movie I can select my list if old movies as I mentioned above. If I want Indian movies I also select list. You see how I start building my own streaming service with Trakt lists and your TV app? You don’t show me content, but you help me find what I want to watch and where to watch it. But this is built around advanced search and bulk moving items.
