Are "new TV apps, better mobile apps, media center integrations and more partnerships" what will make VIP worth $60?

This will just mean triple or quad the price increase. Pretty sure of it. And I’m pretty sure those partnership is for features I won’t even care about.

Not for me:

  • I don’t watch on TV directly/from apps.

  • I use series guide on mobile. Occasionally when I need to check something.

  • I’m not sure there is a media center that’s not supporting Trakt. Kodi/xbmc, Plex, stremio, jellyfin, emby, all have support some even out of the box, many other MC apps have third party open source apps to do it. Even players like VLC/MPC have their scrobblers.

So none of the upcoming planned features bring any value to me, not like most current features did. Stats and spoiler mode are cool, and I do use advanced filter sometimes but none of these are necessary hence why I cancelled. I could probably knock out a tamper monkey script for spoiler mode if I’d care enough for it, I’m not even sure why that’s still a vip feature. This made it easy to cancel my OG VIP sub at least.

Oh my god wait hang on what do you mean we’ll have announcements SOON? Why don’t you have announcements NOW to justify the price increase???

it wasnt really tier, it was a way to support/donate more money and get the ā€œExecutive Producerā€ or EP badge on your profile. Like mine:

They did so away. I don’t know if there ever was a real announcement. There was also a separate donation system. Where more money donated with a slicer equaled more kale for the Justin and he became the hulk (referencing his username kalehulk) :joy:

And on topic, no app would ever be worth it for me.
I don’t like using automatic scrobblers. Haven’t used those in a long long time. Except Spotify → last.fm. But I don’t care about those stats. Made a profile because everyone did.

I do care about my trakt profile and accurate data. If you want something done right you better do it yourself.

Trakt is just a super pretty spreadsheet to me hahaha.

I don’t use any media center. I watch my content mostly from tv, in cinema, borrowed dvds from the library and sometimes streaming.

i believe EP went away quietly and EP users were fustrated why it went away and they were still getting charged $60 when it’s now $25 or $30 (all new customers were getting that flat fee for ALL features including EP features). So then Trakt had to match EP subscribers to $25 or $30 bc everyone else new would be getting all the features that EP had for 25 or $30. so i think in ways they lost money because of that which they should have just kept it.

Don’t quote me on what i said because i’m not sure if what i’m saying above is even 100% accurate. If i’m wrong, please don’t throw hate in my direction lol. I will apoligize if that is wrong what i said.

hopefully @otakunet21 can go more detail on that. again sorry if i am completely wrong lol.

one thing is true is that EP just went away and everyone get EP features for $25 - $30 whatever they were charging back then. probably $25, then they hiked the price to $30.

yeah im pretty sure EP was just a badge on the profile like mine, there might have been a couple other perks but i think that was it. when they raised the prices last year from 30 to 60 it definitely went away at that time. it may have gone away even before that but i wasnt paying attention to it

Of course not. VIP already pays for too many ā€œpartnersā€ that I don’t use. Why would adding more unused features suddenly make the price worth it. The only thing that can really ā€œfixā€ this is an additional lower priced VIP tier without the expensive bloat. If a VIP is just maintaining the library and scrobble from the media center, that isn’t 60$ a year worth of features. If the expensive features are the scrobble from streaming services etc, then make the users that need that pay for it. And 60$ is probably just to keep it going for now. Once these new VIP features land, they will just push the price to 90$ with the same reasons they are telling you now.

No; they should do less (and lower their prices accordingly) instead of more.

Or (as has already been suggested a lot) introduce tiers for this new stuff (which they already should have done for recent new expensive features).

lol, who is running this show, it’s a circus. You don’t announce a crazy price increase, see that everyone is cancelling, and then come out a few days later with a vague announcement that there are things coming ā€œsoonā€.
Launch your new products/features along side a price increase and let users decide if the value proposition justifies the increase. This current approach will leave very few customers for these new products!

So, if I am understanding it right.. they decided to work on the new features, which of course incurred more development costs and hence the existing subscriptions made it unfeasible, so they raised the price. I read that their existing infrastructure upkeep was also the reason that they had to increase the pricing.

But I am sure there had to be a better way, something along the lines of asking users the feedback, or having more diverse pricing options.
