I absolutely love the personal email digests for TV Shows, where it basically tells me that there is a new season premiering for a show I’ve previously watched. This is an awesome and unique feature that I’ve not found on any other platform than Trakt, and makes me not miss any new episodes of the shows I like, without getting spammed about a million other TV shows.
Therefore, I would love to see a similar feature for movies. If I’ve watched Thor 3, I’m probably interested in Thor 4, just like I’m probably interested in season 4 of a show if I’ve watched season 3.
But since sequels in a movie franchise aren’t connected via an overarching “show” like TV seasons, I thought that (official) Collections could serve as a similar function.
For example, if a user has watched a movie from a collection, that would mark the collection as an “interest” in the same way Trakt marks a TV show as interesting (or “watched”) for that user.
And when a new movie is added to that collection, it would automatically appear in the calendar for that user, and (if enabled) send out an email digest like it would for a new season premiering.
(You’d probably want to add “Hide” functionality for Collections in the same way you can hide TV Shows that you’re no longer interested in.)
I digress, but maybe another (or an additional) way would be to add an “is part of watched collection” option in the calendar filter for movies…?
I’m sure there are several ways to achieve the same functionality I’m after, but I hope my use case is clear; i.e. automatic notifications about new movies that I’m probably interested about, based on my watch history.
