Sorry but closing a discussion thread bc some messages in it were offtopic seems very dishonest to me and contrary to the idea of forums - alongside the hint to use the private support when these are explicit categories on here… Suggestion: Moderate individual messages instead of punishing all participants.
I have to agree. The fact that topic had over 500 replies, with very very few being from the Trakt ‘team’ to address or cover off the thoughts of users for the recent change - by closing that it’s basically come across as a kind-of ‘shut up’. I do appreciate that it got a little out of hand in some posts, but I think that was borne out of frustrations.
Whilst the recent changes haven’t affected me directly as a VIP user, I can fully understand the frustrations of others, especially the free user base, who have expressed their feelings - it is just a real shame this feedback hasn’t been taken on board or considered.
They probably closed it before the post count went over 1,000 - the way it was still going on with plenty of momentum, and it probably wouldn’t have been a good look for Trakt if that remained the most popular thread by a mile.
Just don’t forget folks, “More features for all!” is just a diff. way to say “We’re taking away features that everyone had from the very beginning!”.
Amazing how changes so awful, made people show up on the forum for the first time, and their response is to put a limit to how many times a new forum account can reply on a topic.
That’s nothing new… that’s the default for discourse (the forum software), so it’s been that way ever since these new forums were introduced, I think in… 2019? But the forums were VIP only until a few months back (like half a year, I don’t remember), so maybe it’s something you never knew/noticed before, as you joined the forums only yesterday.
Oh wait, the forums are from 2020, it’s in my pop-up
I guess it really is the final nail in the coffin regarding that thread. Poor decision making all round.
I do however have to give props to @Ohifriend, even though we disagreed on some things, the fact the Mobile developer was doing a better job at customer support than the other actual customer support says a lot tbh.
What do you expect. He works for Trakt. Would you talk negatively about the company you work at? If you did, and your management finds out, you’d probably be let go. Just saying… put yourself in his shoes.
He at least tried to be geniune and respond to as many questions as he can to the bests of his ability as a Trakt staff. He could have easily not responded.
I have to agree with this thread i.e. I just went to check the other thread, read the closing announcement and was a bit stunned…for all the reasons others have mentioned above.
And I also agree with the comments above concerning @Ohifriend : at least he was involving himself somewhat in the discussion rather than lurking in the shadows like the others.
It’ll be interesting to see if this thread (and any similar ones) are shut down.
That’s strange; I posted way more than 3 times and there was no censoring of my posts. I’m new to the forum but have been using Trakt since 2012, though.
the posts aren’t being censored, they’re being flagged by the community. and the limits imposed on new users to the forum may not be trakts decision like @lifeiscrazy mentioned above. it’s more likely a Discourse rule/policy to prevent spam
The fact they closed the thread is extremely tone deaf and leaves an utterly foul taste in my mouth. Frankly, it paints a very vivid picture about what the future of this glorified spreadsheet looks like.
at least its not deleted. it was closed due to going off topic severely and also for the toxicity in the thread. I’m not defending the lack of communication, I never received an email about the price increase or the free change. For what its worth, I visit these forums multiple times throughout the day recently so I saw the freemium change the day of. For the price increase, I was already paying $60 for the past 2 years so it doesn’t affect me. Again, not defending anything, but like ohifriend mentioned, they haven’t increased the cost in almost 10 years
censorship, if it happened, is their right. It’s a private company, you’re using their site and forums and we all agreed to abide by their terms of service
you dont need to get mad at everyone else for not being mad with you. does it suck that you have limits, sure. other sites have limits far worse than trakt. people will feel how they feel, and everyone claiming they would pay the old price had plenty of time to sign up and support the site but they chose not to. like i said I agree the communication was handled poorly, i never got an email about either change. the fact is there are still people who see the value in paying and do continue to pay. supporting a business isn’t always about “what do i get out of it”, its “i don’t want this to go away so i pay to keep them around”
and no i didnt defend them, i merely stated that i visit the forums frequently and saw the change regardless of not getting an email.
But the censorship wasn’t by Trakt, it was a result of posts being flagged by new users. That action is a direct result of the settings used in the software used here. Is it censorship, yes, but it wasn’t censorship by this website.
FWIW this thread undoubtedly is heading the same direction as the closed thread.
Absolutely! Thank you for posting this… It doesn’t effect us since we are OG VIPS but you saying this does speak great volumes to me. This doesn’t feel like the Trakt I once loved and been so passionate about. Closing the thread looked to me like we all were being censored and ignored. For many people (Like my boyfriend) Trakt became useless. People can’t add anything anymore! What do you do if you have 150 things on there? remove 51 just to add 1 more movie? lol… Its absolutely crazy! Why don’t we get a honest statement about it? Its been days and many people complained and we barely got any responses… I would like to understand the thoughts behind this all. It looks like they don’t care about us at all and I don’t want to believe that. I know how hard they have been working on Trakt! How much love they have put in creating the website. How hard Justin has worked through the years. That is the reason I don’t understand any of what they are doing right now…
Did it, though? I don’t think it really went off-topic at all because virtually every (but not all) post was simply decrying the announcement and the way it was handled. This is why I was stunned that being “off-topic” was given as the reason for shutting it down. It would have to be one of the longest mostly on-topic threads I’ve ever seen.
