Closing discussions on announcements

there was a good portion where it degraded into personal attacks to users or bringing up politics and -isms

I guess there are multiple threads closed now. The first one was an absolute clusterf#ck because so many new users were reporting every single post that didn’t align with their position. If you search my posts you’ll even find where I complained about this juvenile behavior.

The sensible method to keep a forum organized and civil would be to have announcements, close that post but then simultaneously link to an open discussion thread where people can ask or discuss the topic. And at the same disable the ability that X number of people hitting the “offensive” button because their feelings get hurt have peoples’ posts just disappear into thin air.

The reason some of those threads seemed so one-sided is because posts of differing opinions got trashed because of the automated hiding.

Anyways, this forum in general is becoming a shitshow. Every thread becomes a piling on.

i can only speak for the posts that i reported, there were comments unrelated to trakt or the issue at hand that dont belong here

you are clearly just trying to bait more out of this conversation by picking and choosing what to read. i said MY PRICE didnt change, and nowhere did i say the price increase was a good thing. i said the price hasn’t increase for almost 10 years. if you believe im gaslighting then thats on you

again picking and choosing, i didnt blame new users. i said the posts are being reported by the community

A small minority of individuals in a substantial discussion should not be the sole basis for closing an entire thread dedicated to a specific topic. Regardless of your personal opinions, the majority of people who visit this platform to read or participate in discussions will be less inclined to create a new thread when the previous one is abruptly terminated.

Perhaps it’s just me, but I sense that the relatively few instances of loud voices that “degraded into personal attacks to users or bringing up politics and -isms” would not have occurred had there been any genuine communication and dialogue with the individuals or entities making these absurd changes. Instead, we received two or three responses in an official capacity that attempted (and failed) to justify the decisions, disregarded the numerous comments expressing their disapproval, and left the thread to simmer and escalate.

I don’t think the thread should’ve been closed but

And no the thread wasn’t closed because it was off topic it was closed because the announcement was met with pitchforks and torches not a ticker tape parade.

I mean this isn’t true. The thread was going strong with hundreds of negative comments for 2+ weeks.

I guess there are multiple threads closed now

What? No there isn’t.

Like the Magic Links thread? A thread full of people hating the change.

i agree the communication was poor. if justin or others had been more vocal in there would it have made a difference? likely not, in my opinion. i agree the changes to the free tier are too restrictive. i dont know what else anyone wants us to say about it. we agree the changes are bad, but that doesnt mean we have to stop using the site or try to show why we may find it valuable. I still find the site valuable, and we all know value is subjective.

This part isn’t directed at you but for the record, i havent told anyone to start paying if they want to use the service the way it was before the restriction. If the service really is as valuable as people say, they’ll either find another service that is cheaper, deal with the changes for now, or pay for VIP.

yeah im not looking forward to that magic links change either. but, I rarely ever have to sign in again myself. My home computer always stays logged into trakt and my mobile app is the same. I would prefer it stay as it is, heck even when we lost the ability to login using the username that sucked.

I believe it would have made a significant difference, a substantial one if the communication and discourse had actually worked to course-correct instead of doubling down. However, we’ll simply have to agree to disagree on that particular point.

While some individuals (not you, in particular) may argue that it’s reductive to have a stream of comments all expressing the same sentiment, it’s crucial for the platform’s management to acknowledge the increasing number of comments from all users (regardless of their free, VIP, new, or old status). For the most part, these comments collectively expressed a strong negative opinion about the recent changes. This situation was further exacerbated by their unsuccessful attempt to justify their decision. Instead of addressing the concerns, they resorted to punishing users with radio silence and then hastily implementing a thread lock when they realized that the negative sentiment persisted. This approach is particularly concerning given that this metric should be equally valuable as the limited “3 months” of data they supposedly used to make these ludicrous decisions (but I digress :joy:).

An extremely bad thing closing the discussion with about 500 comments, almost all of them critical, instead of giving an official response to users’ legitimate concerns…

This is the problem of absence of communication I mentioned, and it is the biggest problem with Trakt’s latest policies.

I would just like to know how they plan to address the dissatisfaction of those who keep the service alive by using it and/or paying for it, the free and VIP users… but I’m afraid the answer was just “let’s close the discussion” :smiling_face_with_tear:

Yet another bad decision in my opinion.

On other Discourse based forums I have seen moderators give users a time out (not being able to use the forum for x days) when they repeatedly misbehave.

That’s much better than “punishing” the entire community I think.

This thread is opened almost a day ago… And absolutely zero reactions from anyone of Trakt. Very disappointing…

It took more than a week I think to get the initial reaction in the initial thread, and even that was deflective af. They “addressed” the concerns from Reddit, even though they posted it on this forum, and left the concerns from this forum dead last (and they haven’t addressed them fully either).

I guess we should all make a Reddit account and move over, because there seems to be more activity there than here on their own forum. Yea I guess I’m done… Time passes and you’ll begin to see, Trakt for who they really are and not who they pretended to be. Greed is not only a financial issue it’s also a heart issue. Trakt lost its heart & soul and will never feel the same again. Atleast… Not for me!

Hey everyone!

So sorry if our replies are a little delayed sometimes. We’re a small, globally distributed team, so your morning might be our midnight! We really appreciate your patience.

I wanted to clarify something about the last thread we locked. It wasn’t because of the constructive feedback many of you provided – we genuinely value that! The thread was locked because some of the conversations veered into personal territory, which isn’t in line with our community guidelines. We’ve received both positive and negative feedback, and we’re actively looking into improving the overall app experience based on what you’ve shared. It’s crucial that we stay focused on that goal.

We’re building this startup on a foundation of respect, and we want to ensure this community remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone to chat and share ideas. Let’s all help keep the vibes positive and constructive! :sparkles:

On a brighter note, besides the areas we need to improve, what do you love about using Trakt? What small delightful moments can we deliver for you based on the features we have place? We’d love to hear your favorite features and experiences as well. Let’s remember that we’re all here because we love movies & shows, first and foremost. And even if a lot of great movies are about politics, this forum isn’t.

And last and not least, let’s please ensure the conversations remain respectful and constructive.

Cheers,
Raluca

I definitely used to love being able to use personal lists to organize everything I wanted to watch in a very specific way. But hey now I can’t even do that.

Ignore the issue at hand and try to fluff up the awesomeness of the “little things” that are pretty much all pay features now?

Who is this responding to? Who said “little things?”

What I love about Trakt is how well it worked, mostly, for tracking my media server library, watches and syncronazation. And now it doesn’t do that.

What do you mean by this? You can still track your watches as a free user. What synchronization?

I noticed among the vast flagged messages on the original thread (most of which were wrongly flagged of course, but not all), there were legitimate messages that were definitely personal that you (moderators) had unflagged after they were flagged. Maybe you didn’t want to be seen as “censoring”, or, well, moderating the comments when things were so heated, but not unflagging said posts would have gone a long way to keeping things civil. Definitely would have been a better outcome than just killing our ability to comment on the whole thread.
