Does trakt prioritise sourcing artwork (posters and backdrops) to use for tv shows from tmdb over tvdb? If trakt doesnt trakt should- in my opinion tmdb has better standards for artwork.
Yes, they are still in the ongoing process of transitioning from TVDB to TMDB. You might see some show that hasn’t fully transitioned yet.

Im asking because sometimes there are tv show pages here on trakt where I will refresh images and/or refresh data and the images don’t update to the good quality poster on tmdb but instead it keeps the bad quality tvdb poster.
I dont really get this update thing. What do the colors mean and what are we suppose to do?
The change is not instantaneous. I wait for a few seconds after I click "Refresh Image/Data) and the changes will take effect.

no what i mean is it wont change even after waiting hours and even after waiting days and weeks
Some artwork of locked and indicated in the sidebar on the website if that’s the case.
The artwork on at least the one I recently refreshed is not locked
I don’t want to intrude, but is there a reason why certain shows have locked posters?
You can report it using the report function within the website and we’ll take a look.
We sometimes choose artwork to prevent spoilers or that is more unique than the top rated from tmdb.
