Confused about artwork

Hi everyone -

I have a few questions about show posters! Using the show Community as an example.

  • It looks like this show has ‘transitioned’ to using TMDB, but Trakt is not using the “primary” artwork for Community on TMDB. Why is that?
  • Is there a way to get Trakt to always use the “primary” artwork on TMDB for a show?
  • Or more broadly, is there a way to choose your own artwork for a show poster?

TLDR = I like show posters to be the “official” posters from the latest/last season of the show. It seems like TMDB follows those rules. But for Community (and it looks like a few other shows), Trakt seems to prefer random fan art. Just looking for some clarity or your ideas/thoughts on this.

  1. Sometimes artwork is locked by the devs, and you’ll see an extra greyed out text with a lock icon and “poster / fanart”. That’s when they decided to overrule the highest voted TMDb poster and pick one that best suits the series.

  2. I guess the answer above, answered this question. But, generally, “refresh images” should do the trick!
  3. You can’t pick your own artwork, I’m afraid.

Really appreciate this reply. Thank you for explaining.

Devs, please consider changing the artwork for Community to one of the many official posters! :grinning:

The main reason some artwork is locked is because some art work can clearly show story lines with who’s in the photo and how they’re standing etc. Oftentimes, those shows are locked to an early image to avoid being a “spoiler”.

Also our import function is to go with the highest quality poster available, so that may not always be the “primary” either. For more info: How does Movie & TV Show information (metadata) get updated?
