Guest stars merged with season regulars

I just noticed that the guest stars are now showing merged with the season regulars on the old iOS app. I am hoping this is just a bug, but I am guessing it was actually intentional and all the actors were re-classified under regulars to be forced to display on the various v3 platforms. The v2 web version still shows the correct separation. Please revert this back and keep the original designation! It was so helpful to have specific sections for each and to know the actual number counts.

I think I’ve overheard them saying something about finding a better way/heuristic to differentiate between season regulars and guest stars, potentially removing the differentiation in favor of just showing the actors sorted by their number of appearances. But nothing is set in stone yet.

So, if I get it right, they are now breaking a perfectly working function in v2 to find a “better way/heuristic” in buggy v3? What better way to differentiate regulars and guest stars than having a clear differentiation may exist? Are they really out of their mind or what? :exploding_head:

Here you can comment on the issue directly: No way to see guest stars vs. season regulars ¡ Issue #1518 ¡ trakt/trakt-web ¡ GitHub

Thanks for the link, but I feel like commenting there is just a waste of time. The explanations I’ve read are simply ridiculous.

At the episode level, the distinction between regular actors and guest stars is crystal clear on TMDB. Now, all of a sudden, the source of data is no longer appropriate? What’s the point of removing a function that no one’s ever complained about, just because a few instances present problems? Wouldn’t be better to think of a system to handle these exceptions so they can be fixed directly in Trakt?

In a serious approach, if you really want to redesign a feature, first find a new solution before removing it and then replace it if necessary, not the other way around!

I’m sorry for the polemical tone, but honestly, I’ve lost all confidence in how this project is being managed. :sad_but_relieved_face:

I feel the exact same way thank you! I’ve gotten so burnt out trying to post comments and feedback across so many different places (forums, GitHub, and new roadmap site) for it to just be ignored. It’s tiring to be given the same generic response back each time with rarely any actual changes or fixes being made.

I truly don’t understand the changing of features that already exist and then trying to rework them in a way that creates a more confusing UI. I’m in the same boat of losing faith, but I’ve used Trakt for so long and there’s just no good replacement for me so I feel stuck here :sad_but_relieved_face:

@Sonply While we wait for a new fantastic solution to deal with regular and guest actors in v3, since apparently in the v2 web version the correct separation is still shown, would at least be possible to stop breaking the old apps (now showing all actors merged under “Season Regulars” and an empty “Guest Stars” section) and revert the correct separation? Thank you! :folded_hands:

Seconding this request! I also use an older app version and it’s frustrating to have to use the desktop site to be able to see the actors listed correctly. @Ohifriend is there any way for you to revert this on the iOS app? Also I noticed it removed the ‘character photos’ that were legacy pulled from the TVDB migration. I liked those and hope they’re not gone forever. I know with the TMDB data source there’s no way to set the character specific pictures so we can’t add them back from our end.

Looks like they have now implemented the episode count of each person at show level in V3. That’s ok to me, but I still think that a clear distinction between regular and guest actors should be done.
Especially at episode level, just sorting people by appearance count will always place guest stars at the end of the cast list, when in fact they are the most interesting ones to see at a glance. I mean, I already know regular actors of a show, they are always the same. What I really would like to know is which different guest stars are present in the episode. Having to scroll the whole actors list to see them is quite annoying and unpractical, don’t you think?

Agree entirely, if I am looking for Guest appearances it’s most often because it’s a case of “where do I recognize that person from” and want to access that information not see the stars.
