Hide watched/ collected items in lists

Hi Justin, is there a way for users to hide watched/ collected items in lists and have it stay that way on lists we create? This could be a VIP thing maybe. Apologies if this has been asked and answered before. Thanks.

  1. on a list whether your own or someone else’s, click the cogwheel and then the eye icon to set the hide filters

  1. I think you have to set it everytime but not sure. You can make bookmarks for lists with those filters though.

Thanks. I take it that one can’t create lists that remove watched or collected items nonetheless.

You can use the watchlist for that.

Items you add get removed after watching them.

Ok, so @lifeiscrazy pretty much explained to you the options you have. But, just for clarity, here is how the lists work.

To start off, you are given two default lists. “Watchlist” and “Favorites”.

“Watchlist” pretty much does exactly what you are asking for. It’s designed for you to add movies/shows to it in anticipation of watching them at some point but just might not have gotten to it yet. Then the movie/show is removed completely when you watch the movie and is removed when you watch the first (or any) episode of a show. Now, if you want to get more specific, you can add individual episodes of a show to the Watchlist but that might be too much.

“Favorites” is almost like a custom list. It’s your most favorite movies/shows but I believe it’s limited to only being able to add 50 total or maybe 50 of each. The movies/shows stay visible in the list unless you use the “show/hide” function that @lifeiscrazy showed you above. But, you will have to apply those filters every time you visit the list.

Custom lists pretty much function like the Favorites list except I don’t think there is an actual limit. There is NO preset functionality that allows you to show/hide movies/shows once watched by default. I think that actually defeats the purpose of the lists to begin with. If they are on the list, you want to see them, if you are finished with them, then delete them, right? Otherwise, the movies/shows can/will show up in your History and Progress pages if you want to ever go back and see what you have indeed watched. Meaning, they don’t need to also reside (hidded) in a custom list, right?

Thanks @terryapodaca and @lifeiscrazy for clarifying. I was aware and thanks to your explanation now understand that custom lists are static and not dynamic. This logic is currently something that mdblist.com uses for the dynamic lists I’ve created and certainly do not need the item on both the static list and in my collection/history. It may benefit VIP users to have the ability to create dynamic lists for the future as not all lists have to be static. That said, your suggestion to add items to the watchlist is helpful, and I’ll use it as such unless changes to lists happen in the future.
