I have been getting A LOT of web site down and timeout errors lately on the website. Is this happening to other people?
Not here Scott, (Southern Ontario). Possibly your ISP?
It’s only happening with Trakt.tv and its happening when I am mobile and at home, which is two different ISPs.
And on my phone, laptop and tablet.
Well, that sucks! Same time of the day or just about anytime? Not that I can do anything about it …
Anytime. Started a couple of months ago and I assumed Trakt was just having some capacity issues, but it has not gone away. I get it on about 1 in 5 clicks.
I’ve been having host issues for a few months but they’ve been quite on-and-off, but today has probably been the worst it’s been in forever. I’m having the issue on my home broadband (Virgin Media UK) and on my mobile network (Three).
Only having issues with trakt as well, starting to get a bit annoying since I scrobble a lot of things manually so I’m having to keep a track of things in Notes because it’s happening so often.
We’re looking into it, not sure what is going on yet. The best place to alert us in the future is support.trakt.tv in case we don’t see a message here.
Updates:
It appears some of the web servers are having issues, and then they get automatically replaced with new ones. The 521 seems to be happening during that time when a server fails, but before it is replaced. I’m trying to figure out more details.
Update 2:
I restarted some servers and as of now it seems to have improved things. Still not sure of the cause yet.
I’m getting it too this evening. UK on both WiFi (Virgin Media) and 4G (EE). Every click around the website needs 3/4 refreshes before the page loads
Mine stability has been a bit better since this post Justin, had some weird cache issues (apparently I haven’t watched any of my recent movie watches lol?) but overall the site is a lot more stable.
I’ll bare the support thing in mind too, thanks for sorting it quickly.
Same issue here (Belgium).
Had this a few weeks back, when I first discovered trakt.tv. I was even hesitating of signing up for VIP membership because of this. But then things got better.
Over the past few weeks I would see it on occasion, but tonight it’s gotten especially bad again.
We are still trying to track down which service is acting up, but might have found what it is. Still working on it, but its weird since only some servers are affected and it seems to random which servers get the 521 error. That’s why it works sometimes, then might get an error on the very next page.
Reset your browser data at https://trakt.tv/settings/data and it should work again. It should also fix itself once you watch a new item.
We did some major behind the scenes updates right around that time, and implemented a lore more automatic error detection and failover. There have been some tweaks over the last few weeks to improve how that automation works. Thanks for bearing with us, it’s a ton of website and API traffic and we’re constantly trying to make it work smoother.
A 524 is related to your account specifically. It usually means there is too much data. Please email support@trakt.tv so we can investigate.
Probably the same issue as this:
Thanks for the update Justin. It seems to have cleared up now. I can understand the frustration of random server errors!
There seems to still be an issue when I get a CF error 521 (if I remember the code right), aka web server down error.
