Just noticed this today on the new website. I am hoping this is a step in the right direction to do with configuring the library going forward, but I can’t see how or where one is supposed to configure this as there doesn’t appear to be any access at all anywhere to customization like what existed on V2 for various items.
It clearly is giving different results but I can’t see what the criteria is that’s being used to generate this as a result if I select the option of Custom in the drop down box:
The Plex option will show you everything that has been added by the Plex Sync to your Library.
The Custom option will show you everything you’ve added yourself to your Library via Trakt v2 or a third-party app (this can include another Plex sync that wouldn’t be the Trakt official one).
@kcador As I pointed out on Github, the problem is that it’s inaccurate. If the title of a file contains the words bluray or dvd as being the source of the digital rip, then it is being added to Custom and ignoring the fact that it was synced from Plex.
Similarly if it was mismatched originally and corrected it is showing up in Custom instead of Plex too.
There’s not a single item on my Plex or Kodi in library that is selected to be synced that is a physical item. So everything should theoretically be added to Library with nothing in Custom.
I realize this might be an issue with Plex Sync and have brought it to Justin’s attention there too. I realize his out of the office but at some point something needs to either slow down on the changes, or something needs to be fixed. Trakt seems to barreling fullspeed ahead here without fixing issues that will cause headaches for us later trying to fix things.
I’ve been trying to fix items where it shows BluRay by editing the metadata but that doesn’t trigger a move from Custom to Plex which it should.
If there’s going to be no method of moving errors from one library to another then am I right in assuming my only option would be to trash my entire library and start from scratch resyncing and again hoping that Trakt accurately matches everything? Because that really seems to be the only option at this point.
Thanks for the details! You’re absolutely right, this is a bug, not an expected behavior.
What seems to happen now is that when an item originally synced via Plex Sync is later edited manually, it loses its original source attribution and gets reclassified as Custom . That’s incorrect, and we agree it shouldn’t work that way.
This will be addressed.
The longer-term fix is working toward the split of the Library into :
the Library, backed by integrations like Plex (and future providers), and
the manually managed things, which will live in Lists.
That separation will ensure that:
edits don’t change an item’s origin,
synced items remain correctly attributed to their source,
and issues like this can’t happen again.
For now, there’s nothing you need to do on your end. We’ll follow up once the fix is in place.
