Missing actress Ashley Brinkman

Short description of the issue

  • Ashley Brinkman has no page or credits on Trakt

Detailed description with additional context about the workflow

Thank you for helping on this.

That’s most probably because her TMDB page doesn’t have an IMDB link, so her credits are not imported or even deleted from Trakt, causing a loss of relevant data.

We already asked a couple of weeks ago to remove this IMDB link requirement, at least for people, but of course no answer or explanation from anybody.

See here: https://forums.trakt.tv/t/remove-imdb-and-tvdb-requirement-for-tmdb/107030/4

Ok, thanks for the explanation and the link.

I edited her page on TMDB to add her IMDB link.

Thanks for adding the ID.
That actress now has a page here: Trakt Web: Ashley Brinkman

Not a single word about the IMDB link requirement for people causing a relevant loss of data on Trakt? Seriously? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Hi,
We currently have no plans to remove the IMDB requirement due to the many duplicates and spam pages that ended up in our database in the past. Do you know a better way to validate people pages before importing them?
In this case, it was very simple to just add the ID and the page ended up importing correctly. We prefer having to do this extra step to just import good pages, than having to clean up a lot of bad ones.

Honestly it feels like this is creating bigger issues as a bunch of unknown / lesser known people are having the wrong imdb id’s added now just to push things through.

At least with movies and tv series there’s somewhat of a visual check but for people often that same criteria doesn’t apply.

To force the issue it seems like folks are just selecting one with an imdb id now which may be totally the wrong person. This will ultimately end up making things a real mess.

Would it maybe not be better to try and concentrate on removing the duplicates on tmdb through a concerted effort by users from here? If there’s a list of duplicate people pages (that I guess have been deleted) that would be a good place to have users willing to devote some time to the effort remove them and correct them on tmdb. IMHO this will be a lot simpler than trying to get some unknown person added to imdb where it is far from easy to add new people pages in my experience.

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
I can possibly understand for movies and shows, but are there really so many duplicate or fake pages for people on TMDB?

As you can read in the thread I linked above (where this discussion should maybe continue), the bigger problem is that if an IMDB link is not present, not only they are not imported into Trakt, but also they get deleted from it. IMO, and as stated by others, this leads to an unacceptable damage to Trakt data integrity.
Also, I noted that if the IMDB link is present but the field in TMDB is locked, the person is not imported in Trakt anyway. Is that a bug?
At the end of the day, it looks like to fix an issue (duplicates and spam) you are creating a worst one (missing/wrong data).

It was a slow work day so I went back to my history list and started checking cast list between trakt and TMDB. I ended up adding 20+ IMDB ID on profiles and found 2 duplicates in the mix.

Missing IDs is mainly on lesser known movies/actors (or tv movies) but if the 10% duplicates I found on a small batch is any indication, I guess I understand the point of view of the trakt team.

@Sonply Have you read my post here that explains why this is such a major issue for people credits? The responsibility should not fall on users to have to validate and manually add ids ourselves. Weekly I add hundreds of credits worth of directors, writers, actors, etc. on TMDB and double checking every single one for an extra IMDb link is going to be impossible. I know it only becomes an issue for lesser known people, but it shouldn’t matter.

The previous version of Trakt would pull all actors regardless of their links and that system seemed to be working fine. In the grand scheme of things, dealing with a duplicate record once in a while is easier to fix than having multiple records not get imported at all. Missing data is worse than duplicate data.

I can kind of understand for tv shows and movies, but what about cases where TMDB locks the IMDb field? https://trakt.tv/shows/jury-duty-presents-company-retreat This on a show level has no IMDb id since it is treated as ‘season 2’ of the original Jury Duty, but the individual episodes have IMDb links. For the past month I have tried to refresh data and it will not pull any changes.
