Where does the site pull the “Release Date” info for films from?

I’m looking at a couple of films which were released in the 70s and one has a release date of 1986 because that’s when it got a video release (in a different country, no less), this is also listed as the “Original Country” which is also incorrect. the second is listed as having been released in 2008 when it was shown at a festival in Ireland, it also has this as the “Original Country” despite having been released in 1971 in Italy.

Is there a way we, the user, can help rectify these, or is it a Big Boy job?

all release dates are pulled from TMDB. i’m not sure what the pecking order is when there’s multiple release dates added.

On the first one, since the country is set to Germany, it looks for the earliest release date in that country, which is in 1986.

We get the info from TMDB, so once corrected over there, Trakt will update about 24 hours later.

Surly the earliest release should dictate when a film was released. Nines time out of ten anyway.

Thats not the rule on tmdb though. So better not change something like original movie language/country unless you’re 100% sure of the rules and that current info is wrong.

There can be a Japanese original language movie already released in I don’t know France. But then still the earliest release date for Japan is used.
