Price of VIP?

I only found out about this because I happened to open the thread. I read the title and thought it was just a general question.

The notification was HERE

You linked to a response to a forum thread with a vague title. That is not a notification to users.

Its simple imo, if they do not honor the price for existing vip members then i will not be renewing.

Hello Justin. I reached out to support 4-5 days ago and had not received any answers yet. Thanks

Hey have support reach back to you? I’ve contacted them last week and have not heard back from them.

Not at all.

I’ve also asked support about any kind of response a few days ago, but so far radio silence.

Ironically today I received an email telling me that my VIP is soon to expire

I was out of town all of last week and just returned. I will have an update and more clarification around VIP pricing later in the week.

I’m using Trakt since 2013. “Vip” for the last 2 years. Due to the lack of communication from the support, starting from today I’m not a Vip anymore. And just because, for security reasons, as I always do, I disabled the auto-renewal. And because NO COMMUNICATION was sent to the loyal subscribers announcing the incoming price increase (that of course I’m not going to pay, it’s really really very expensive).

And as someone thinking about becoming a VIP member, if existing subscribers don’t think it is worth the money, why should I want to pay $60 when I already know I will only make use of one or two of the VIP features?

You realize there’s probably far more folks who don’t have an issue and still think they’re getting value for money?

And the reality is, if you find value in the free version of Trakt, then consider that without some revenue that free version wouldn’t exist most likely.

Personally I didn’t become VIP for the extra features, but did so to contribute and hopefully ensure the App and website remain supported and developed because at the end of the day, the App/website provide a function that serves a purpose for me that I use regularly.

I meant at $60. Wouldn’t surprise me if there’s still lots of folks that don’t realise.

Fair comment, except that I don’t think it is fair to continually pay double what others are paying just because the price doubling was not announced in an email, but that’s my problem. I don’t mind contributing and supporting, but not at double the amount. It would be interesting to know how many VIP EP members exist, because that would be more of a reflection of who thinks they get $60 value, when they pay this voluntarily.

I completely agree, so if they gave me the opportunity to sign up at $30 recurring, I would sign up immediately, and would probably keep it recurring for at least the next few years. But $60 is just too much for me. Sorry.

Same here. The real problem (that some people can’t realize) is that they did not announce the price doubling and that they are not considering “Active Vip” folks that disabled the auto-renewal (mainly for credit card security reasons, in my case) before the expiring date.

Checking in with some updated policies and more clear guidelines around VIP pricing.

An “active VIP” is defined as someone with a non expired VIP membership and not dependent on your auto renewal status. “Auto renewing” implicitly means you are active + have yearly automatic payments on. This info only applies to yearly plans.

Active VIP + Auto Renewing

You’re setup correctly to continue with your existing pricing plan. To continue receiving your discounted pricing, auto renewal needs to stay on.

Active VIP + Not Auto Renewing

Click the RENEW button on the VIP page and you’ll receive a one time discount. To continue receiving your discounted pricing, auto renewal needs to stay on.

Expired or Canceled VIP

You are not eligible for any discounted pricing and will need to sign up at the current price.

Billing Issues with PayPal or Stripe

It’s not common, but sometimes your membership will be canceled by PayPal or Stripe. This could be due to an expired credit card or bank issue. Please email support if this happens and we will investigate further.

It will be at Trakt’s discretion if your existing pricing will be honored or not. Please contact us as soon as you find a billing issue.

Canceling VIP

When you cancel your VIP membership, you’ll lose any discounted pricing or promotions applied to your account. This message is displayed in the delete popup on the VIP page when you click the CANCEL button.

Active VIP + Auto Renewing

I do not agree with this rule :grinning: (I think one can be an active VIP and decide to renew at D-day-1, why not?) but I’ve just renewed my subscription, with the help from the customer support, that solved my issue. Thanks.

I agree there should be some kind of grace period especially because this hasn’t been communicated but overall it looks like this has been sorted out for existing subscribers.

But again, why has the price increase not been communicated? I’m sure there are lots of people would have been willing to sign up for $30 before it doubling. Or current VIPs thinking twice about cancelling. This clarification is still a comment in a thread with a vague title. Please make it a post on the forum and send an email to all users.

I agree with this one here. I was originally paying the $30/year but actually increased my pledge to the $60/year when they had site issues at the end of last year. I don’t use any of the features except dark mode and no ads and still think $60/year is a great value for what they offer

I appreciate the compromise of a ‘one-time’ pardon for existing users to re-enable auto renewals.

But… please handle this matter in the right way for your loyal supporters. The renewal price being tied to auto-renewal still feels uncertain, especially when that auto-renewal status depends on third-party services like PayPal and Stripe. Bank Accounts change, credit cards expire, and PayPal/Stripe experience issues regularly… so the fine-print of you honoring the previous price at ‘Trakt’s discretion’ feels like a shakedown waiting to happen.

I’m not arguing the actual price increase because that seems like a one-sided discussion, but you not giving more certainty to your loyal supporters reeks of greed and bad business.

Store each VIP’s original subscription price in a DB and allow users to renew at their existing price, regardless of their auto-renewal status, as long as they renew before their subscription expires. This approach would provide greater transparency and stability for us loyal subscribers. It’s not some huge technical challenge and will save you from a bunch of support tickets.

The reason it’s at our discretion is so it’s done in a timely manner. We don’t want a payment to fail, then 6 months later get a request for the original pricing. In general it’s a non issue since you notice right away if the payment fails since Trakt emails you as would stripe or PayPal. Just contact us after knowing it fails.

There was grace period with the $30 price point (as an auto applied 50% discount) for several weeks before $60 became standard.

My CC will expire and by that the auto-renewal will cancel. Having the auto-renewal always active doesn’t make sense.

I can set up auto-renewal closer to the expiring date, for example, if that was an option.
