Price of VIP?

Trakt currently advertises a 50% discount on VIP, which expires on September 5: $30/year instead of $60/year.

I’m confused, because I thought that was the regular price (when paid yearly). Did the prices get raised by 100% recently?

I’d like to know this answer too. Because $60 seems pretty expensive hike in price.

It used to be 30$/yr for VIP or $60/yr if you want the EP badge

This must have changed in the last few days.

Yes, those are the prices I remember.

An “official” reaction would be nice.

Agreed, a response would be nice as my renewal is coming up and it doesn’t list a price anywhere, just a date.

I hope there won’t be any increase for existing VIP users… I’ve been a VIP for three years, and I like it, but not at $60. That would be too high a price.

Maybe it’s only for new members, but it’s weird that it’s not communicated.

This was the last price increase:

Yea, would have been nice if communicated publicly. Hopefully it’s only new members.

As my autorenew is on the 7th, I really would like an official answer also.
If price is going up, I’d rather not go overdrawn after missing a discount through no fault of my own, and also have the chance to decide if such a large increase is worthwhile to me.
Where did you see this? The VIP page for me just shows my current subscription dates but no prices.

Since you already have VIP, you’d want to open a browser in incognito mode or just log out of trakt from the website. Then go to the following URL.

https://trakt.tv/vip

Just saw someone post about to make a purchase and VIP is $60/yr now…. And I thought there was a “discount” going until the 5th.

I think that’s def way overpriced.

Update: nevermind, just saw that person had originally subscribed to VIP EP which has gone away.

If you’re existing VIP member, nothing changes and you keep your existing pricing. This means a Trakt OG on the $15/yr plan keeps their pricing. And it means Trakt VIPs paying $30/yr keep that pricing. As long as you remain an active VIP, you’re grandfathered in at your price point. If you have issue or a failed renewal, just contact support and we will honor the price.

We last increased prices 9 years ago in 2015. For new members, we now offer VIP paid yearly or monthly. You can still lock in the $30/yr price by signing up for yearly billing by September 5. After that, it will be $60/yr.

The Trakt team is growing (check About Trakt - Trakt) and increased VIP revenue helps fund all our salaries. We also removed programmatic ads since they really sucked, so VIP also helps cover that change in revenue as well.

We are of course open to feedback and welcome that. For everyone in this thread who is already a VIP, nothing really changes.

Oh thanks for letting us know Justin. I’m sure we all appreciate it. I will stay with VIP since it won’t increase for me.

Thank you for providing clarity on this!

Unfortunately not the answer I was hoping for, but I understand why.

To be honest I have considered VIP a couple of times, but $30/year felt like more than the value I get out of Trakt. The OG $15/year would have made it much more likely that I would have become a VIP and renewed every year.

Maybe I’m wrong about this, because I have never tried any VIP features (the $30/year just felt too steep for a trial run). If the “50% off” meant $15 for the first year, I would join today, to try out VIP for a full year and see whether Trakt provides more value than I thought so far.

I didn’t really join VIP for the additional features, I would have been completely content with the free tier, as it serves all the purposes I need it for, I joined VIP to support and keep the service alive, as I’d be pretty darn lost without it.

hello! I am trying to sign up for VIP before the price increase on Sept 5, but when I login and attempt checkout the price changes to $60 with a 1-month free trial. May someone look into this for me. Thanks!

Now you can also try out VIP with the monthly plan at only $6 to see if it provides value for you.

You had a referral discount applied. I cleared that and you should see the 50% discount now.

Or even for free when using the iOS app?

However, this might mean not being able to lock in the $30/year price plan?

(Can you switch payment methods? During a trial?)
