Private Profile, Public Lists

Is there a way to make certain lists public while keeping profile private, other than the share link option? The share link doesn’t allow other Trakt users to like the list so that they can follow it

The share link option is our solution to doing this.

So how do they like the list, for easy access rather than requiring the link each time? I must have missed something I needed to do to allow them to like it as it seems to be greyed out.
It’s a list I want to regularly update for them, but don’t want to have to make my profile public to every Joe Blog that comes along lol.

Anyone have any ideas?

Reviving this topic since I was going to post it.

I’d like this to be a global setting. My profile is private but I have lists I wouldn’t mind users accessing.

each custom list has the option to be made public. click the edit button to set the options for it

Does it? When I open this list in incognito it shows my private profile. Please let me know if you can access it.

yeah it shows the same thing, i have to follow you to see anything. But if your list were to appear somewhere else on the site it should be visible i would assume

You need to use “link” rather than “public”. It’s a stupid way of having to do it

that implies that you have to share the link to others but would they still show up to other users anywhere?

I don’t think so. I did try it for a while, but ended up with a second account (both are now VIP) so I could keep my main private and the second public for all my lists. As far as I’m aware doing it as link only makes it “public” to those you share that link with.

which makes sense. i think what Impakt wants is to keep his account private but have lists that are still publicly available. they might be on a general search or on a random show as a recommended list to follow but i can’t tell if that’s the case or not.

That’s what I was after too and am not sure why it’s so hard to implement since I don’t know the back end, hence ending up with two accounts

if i can ask, what’s the reason to keep your account private?

It’s no one else’s business what I have watched, collected or plan to watch (like a personal diary). That is for my information alone. However I run a Facebook group for people to learn about new shows and movies and discuss, if they want, things they have watched and recommend, and have created dozens of lists to help make it easy to find recommendations and new things based on interests, etc, so naturally want those public. Trakt currently has no way to satisfy my privacy while letting me easily share these lists that might be helpful for others.

The link isn’t really the solution I was looking for. I’d like it to be fully public. Like it appears in search, recommendations, etc. I set it as public in the setting, so it should be that way.

Yeah, that’s what I wanted too. Unfortunately Trakt doesn’t seem to be coded that way . The link thing is only only “workaround”, if you can even call it that.

do we know for sure that lists marked as public dont show up for others’ recommendations and such? I mean searching your list may or may not show anything, like when i searched for your WWE list @ImpaktNY48 i couldn’t find it. There were other lists that appeared but they were marked as private
