Same issue here with two “stuck” search entries.
After some time, and repeated efforts, the entries were removed. But then after more searches two others became “stuck”.
Have done the “Reset Browser Data” several times.
For what it’s worth in case you didn’t find out. You gotta long press the search result. I just assumed you knew how to but it didn’t work and reappeared.
I have no issues removing recent searches on my app.

That worked for the recent searches on my iPhone.
That just leaves the ability to switch off trending searches.
