šŸš€ Trakt Product Update – May 2026

In May, we continued improving V3 across web, iOS, and Android, and we’re getting closer to an important next step for Trakt.

That next step is about bringing more users into one modern experience, while also making Trakt feel more balanced: useful and fair for free users, and more powerful for advanced users who need higher limits, deeper control, and more flexibility.

:bullseye: V3 is getting ready for VIP members

We’re getting closer to an important next step.

→ By the end of June, V3 will become the default Trakt experience for VIP members.

V3 is already the default for non-VIP users, and we learned a lot from it. We see people using it, sticking with it, and giving us the kind of feedback that helps us keep making it better every day.

Now it’s time to start bringing VIPs forward too.

Our goal is to keep bringing useful workflows forward into one Trakt experience we can keep improving for everyone.

:gem_stone: A clearer direction for Trakt VIP

We also want to be clearer about how we think about Trakt VIP.

→ Trakt should be useful for everyone, without feeling like you’re constantly running into a paywall.

When something is VIP, it should usually be because it fits a more advanced use case: heavier use of the service, higher limits, deeper control, or customization that is more complex to build and maintain.

Some things currently behind VIP don’t really fit that idea anymore, and other features make more sense when they’re available to more people with sensible limits.

Trakt Plex Sync is one of those.

We want casual Plex users to be able to sync their library, play from Trakt, and track what they watch. VIP will remain the better fit for more advanced use cases like multiple servers, near real-time sync, larger libraries, and deeper control.

So, going forward, the direction is:

  1. Make the free experience feel useful and fair.
  2. Make Trakt VIP the better experience for advanced users.

That’s the direction we want to keep working toward with the community as Trakt continues to grow.

:red_apple: Trakt for iOS and iPadOS

On iOS, recent updates focused on the parts of the app people use most: keeping up with shows, opening more detailed media pages, and making the experience more personal.

  • Better progress tracking with a new Progress section in the Profile tab, including Up to Date, In Progress, and Dropped shows, plus initial sorting options for Continue Watching and Start Watching.
  • More complete media pages with better drilldowns for episodes, seasons, actors, extras, related items, credits, and social activity, plus smarter episode positioning in Show and Episode summaries.
  • More personal control with advanced global filters throughout the app, a way to update your user profile cover image, personal and favorite notes for movies and shows, and the option to attach a note when dropping a show.

We also added more languages, improved the Social feed by merging repeated activity items, and fixed issues around special episode watched status, Month in Review, Year in Review, Person summaries, and missing episode counts.

:robot: Trakt for Android

Android continued catching up fast, with updates that make the app feel more complete across profiles, media pages, filters, and playback.

  • Better progress tracking with a new Progress section in the Profile screen, making it easier to keep up with what you’re watching.
  • More complete media pages with full-screen Season and Episodes sections, updated cast episode counts in media and people summaries, and effective release dates for episodes.
  • More control and polish with Simple and Advanced filters, prioritized in-app video playback, a rating prompt for recently watched movies, support for 20 interface languages, and more crash fixes, UI tweaks, and reported bug fixes.

This is exactly the kind of progress we need as Android keeps getting closer to the full Trakt experience.

:globe_with_meridians: Trakt Web

On Web, the focus was V3 completion: improving the everyday pages, flows, and details that make the experience feel more useful on desktop.

  • Better summaries and drilldowns with improved episode, season, People, and Where to Watch drilldowns, cleaner drawers, and more consistent links to deeper information.
  • More useful lists, profiles, and stats with improvements to list summaries, list sorting, My Ratings, My Stats, profile activity, streaks, and Month in Review / Year in Review related pages.
  • More polish and reliability with better desktop toggles, filter navigation, layout refinements, translation updates, safer loading states, fewer noisy errors, and fixes for older browsers.

These changes continue moving V3 toward a more complete desktop experience, with less reliance on horizontal browsing and more ways to drill into the full information you need.

:hammer_and_wrench: Want to follow along?

A lot of Trakt’s work happens in the open, and we’d love for you to join us!

  • Trakt Web is open source. You can open issues for bugs and feature requests, follow closed pull requests to see work happening almost in real time, or submit a pull request if you’d like to contribute.
  • Trakt Android is also open source. You can follow the code, report issues, and help improve the app.
  • Trakt Apple is where we track iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS issues.
  • Trakt API is the best place for API discussions, bug reports, and feature requests for third-party apps and API clients.

Whether you’re a developer, a power user, or just someone who notices something that could be better, your feedback helps shape what we work on next.

:burrito: That’s a Wrap

The work is all connected.

V3 is becoming the main Trakt experience.
Our mobile apps are getting closer to the same core workflows.
Web is filling in more of the missing pieces.
And VIP is getting a clearer purpose.

There is still work to do, and we know some workflows are not where they need to be yet. But the path is clear:

One modern Trakt experience, useful for everyone, with VIP focused on advanced users and heavier use.

Thanks for all the feedback, bug reports, feature requests, and patience as we keep moving this forward.

It’s not like you gave them a choice haha

You say that people are using it and giving feedback BUT you are clearly NOT listening to everyone that has NEGATIVE feedback on it and now you say by the end of June VIP users will be forced on to V3, which they are clearly not happy with.

I think you really need to leave VIPs the ability to continue to use V2 until THEY feel that V3 gives them the paid for experience that THEY believe is right for them.

Kevin! Why don’t you understand that we want V2?! We hate V3!! This is not what I paid for! This is not normal! How dare you butcher the site like this and still take our money!? If only V3 will be available, then I want a refund for my subscription!! What you’re doing is shameful!

Disappointing that V3 is going to be forced on all by the end of the month

I still find it a very clunky experience compared to V3, especially in a web browser

@kcador I still see no way for users to do the following in v3 website. Will these be added before you force vip users to v3 website. These are legitimate questions on features as I use them regularly. I don’t want to use forum to get things done when I’m able to do them myself in v2

  1. Reporting issues (show, season, episode, movie)
  2. Importing new show and movie from tmdb
  3. Refresh data (via website)

These are three important and critical pieces of what I normally use trakt v2 for.

I was expecting this, however, my personal primary need before transitioning has not yet been added to v3…

CALENDAR NEEDS ABILITY TO FILTER FOR SEASON FINALES

As a binge watcher, this is my primary use of the platform outside of basic tracking.

I need to see actual air dates in V3, the same as I can currently in V2

A recent change putting all of a weeks episodes with a premier date as 6am Monday, makes my calendar mostly pointless

The ā€œEndgameā€ milestone still has a completion date of June 30, 2026. I suspect this is the date that v2 will be inaccessible. To see open issues which are supposed to be completed before all are forced on v3, check this page: GitHub Ā· Where software is built

Dreading the day V3 gets forced onto us VIP users. At the very least, could lists get some feature parity with V2? Pretty please? Sure gonna miss V2.

We can continue to ask for this but let’s face it, we all knew the end of June was the end of V2. It’s been listed as such for quite a while and referenced here a few times.

For whatever reason, they’re stubbornly sticking with the flawed reasoning that because 32% of the website hits these days go to app.trakt.tv so people must be loving it.

I’ve resigned myself to knowing that in 4 weeks unless they miraculously roll out missing items we’ve been asking for since this new diabolical version was pushed, that Trakt has become pretty much useless for me.

There’s been zero attempt to fix / expand control over Plex Sync. There’s been no changes made to allowing us to manage the Library (Collection). There’s inoperable filters / search on numerous pages. All items I use daily (and paid for as part of the VIP inducements).

Yet every month we read this self-congratulatory drivel applauding themselves how it is being fixed / expanded while items many VIPs use are just ignored because they no longer fit into the myopic vision of the OP: he doesn’t use Trakt that way, so he can’t understand why others who do could possibly want or need that.

People are using V3 because they don’t really have a choice.

I tried to grin and bare it for a bit, but I don’t have easy access or even access at all to show information I look for on a regular basis… information that is easily available on V2.

But I will say that I currently absolutely HATE V3’s current version of its history page.

  • I can’t only see only the shows I’ve watched… I really need this simplified history
  • I can’t filter the information available however I want
  • I can’t organize/sort the information however I want

I will say that V3 has improved somewhat… but not much in my opinion.

  • I’m an Android user… so using the Series Guide and/or Showly apps are way better options than the Trakt app/site while still having access to the Trakt data
    • But I’ve only ever used them to mark episodes/movies as watched… not to see the complete history of what I have watched

Will the dropped shows be hidden once V3 becomes the default for VIP members? They show up right now under Continue Watching and I have to manually click on ā€˜Drop show’ for all of them.

there was a button to click that would let you transfer all hidden items into the dropped section from the settings page: https://trakt.tv/settings/hidden/dropped/title if the quick option isnt there anymore then you’ll need to manually drop each item

Ah unfortunately the button is gone now. Thanks for the quick response though!

So i went and checked V3…

and yeah : this happened when i checked the library

V2: 35693 Items

V3: 0 items

(just a note, i’m using the plex webhook to add to my library, AND the jellyfin trakt plugin)

To say that I’m unimpressed would be grossly understating it.

Functionality :

  • The calendar is a joke : Where are the premieres & New Shows. Where are the personalized filters ? (I have one that lets me find new shows by studios that i use all the time)
  • The library, well where IS my library ?
  • TV Shows ? No Seasons page I bloody use that ALL THE TIME (ok i found the alternative later, go to an episode, then look under the main item and click on season, yeah, sooooo ergonomic, and again, no way to add a full season to library from there)
  • TV Shows ? Where is the distinction between regulars and guest stars ?
  • TV Shows ? Where is the progress ? O yeah replaced by Continue watching, no, sorry NOT the same thing.
  • I can’t find a way to ADD an item to my library either..

UI design:

  • on the history page you have literally the ā€œdate and time watchedā€ taking one slot with a background for the episode, it’s unnecessary, and rather unesthetic
  • on the same page the infinite load is a pain, on V2 i knew I had 60 items per page…
  • The stupid mini calendar does not allow to select a date range (another functionality loss)
  • On the item pages : I can’t find the Library details like date collected, digital, resolution, sound, etc.. I can’t even find that this item is in my library (though that may be due to the fact that my library has not been exported)
  • on the item pages: I don’t give a rat’s ass about the ā€œplayā€ button That I do give a rat’s ass about is the ā€œ<ā€ and ā€œ>ā€ button to navigate to the previous/next episode

All of this is only at first glance..

I really don’t care to have a UI that looks it’s made for mobile on my desktop, I’m a desktop user, not a mobile user.

All in all this version has a LOT to go to justify the yearly cost.

Wanting to force feed it to VIP users, is a real bad move, and given the reactions, i don’t think I’m alone in thinking it. You are planning to impose an inferior product to us at a double cost ? In what world are you living to think you won’t lose about 80% of all your advanced users ?

Oh yes and the reason you see people using it and sticking with it on V3, those are the free users you already forced redirected. No wonder. Can you be more clueless ?. And as for the Plex sync for all, well sure, but if i does not work… what’s the use mmm ?

You say you want to work with the community, but you actually blatantly ignore the negative feedback, even when it’s detailed and reasoned (and yes I do submit once in a while to the new feedback thing, with detailed reasoning an suggestions for ameliorating, and never once saw a reply. If it does not fit your vision, you just ignore it. You could reply with something like : ā€œno we won’t do that, becauseā€¦ā€ That would at least demonstrate that you have listened and reasoned against an idea, The radio silence instead just says, ā€œcontinue to piss against the wind we don’t give a fuckā€. And believe me this is infuriating.

This feels pretty ironic to me, because everything about V3 is a downgrade regarding functions and features. I have way less control, can’t customize even the most basic stuff like picking which streaming service to filter. It’s a ā€œfilter all favorite servicesā€ or none world.

But no surprise, you already took my ability to use those filters in a qualified manner in V2, two months ago. As reported here and absolutely nothing was fixed.
But why would you fix it in V2, if V3 is the imminent future and makes somewhat sophisticated features a thing of the past anyways?

I’ll wait and see what the final V3 looks like, which you deem good enough to enforce on us. And then I’ll demand my money back if it’s not an actual improvement.

It looks like my time as a Trakt user will finally come to an end. I have tried V3 and it is just not for me. V2 has everything I need and has worked perfectly for the almost 5 years I have been using it. But with all of the forced changes, I just can’t see why I should continue paying for something I don’t love anymore. I would consider staying if I can still use V2, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening. If I’m unable to find a viable alternative, maybe it’s time for me to move my tracking into a simple spreadsheet.

too long, didn’t read the AI slop of OP.

The day v2 is removed and v3 hasn’t matched in features parity, I’m gone for good.

And VIP is getting a clearer purpose.

:clown_face::clown_face::clown_face:

And if nobody noticed yet they will introduce multiple VIP tiers pricing as you can see from the github screenshots.

I wouldn’t say that the pricing is multiple tiers, which insinuates different service levels. The new pricing is subscription term discounting.
