Trakt will only download, but not upload from several apps

I’ve worked in web development for 30 years and in my experience when working with a third party API we usually received notifications of upcoming changes so we could be prepared. I’m not sure if Trakit sends out similar notifications.

That said, Kodi addons are developed and maintained by mostly by unpaid hobbyists. Some addons are updated quicker than others. Some not at all. I use Trakit with Kodi and Seren, Umbrella and The Crew addons. I did recently get a notification from Seren (I think) that I had to reauthorize Trakit due to some change. Other than that I’ve had no problems. Granted I’m not a power user, I just add shows or movies to my Watchlist in Trakit and they show up in Kodi. I use Up Next on a daily basis and Watchlist when I want something new. For me it works 99% of the time. Occasionally something gets lost but doesn’t take much effort to find.

I really don’t care for Kodi, but it also gives me a Trakt error. Fen Light Trakt API error. And I do have umbrella and others. It’s exactly like Trakt just stopped uploading all data, on every app.

I haven’t tried Kodi/Trakit today but will later and let you know if I have any issues.

If you can explain exactly what you were trying to do in detail I can try to replicate the results and try to figure out what’s going on.

As soon as I try to add anything to any app, it fails to upload to Trakt servers, which then fails to update every other app. It’s completely useless, that way. I even deleted all my data, and it still doesn’t connect to upload anything I select. It only downloads. But what? Only the apps that are already there, since I can’t add any new ones. Every app tells me Trakt is not available, when it comes to the upload part.

So I tried Trakit in Kodi with Seren and Umbrella. I was able to add titles to my Trakit Collection and they showed up in my Library in Trakit. I was also able to remove titles as well in either addon.

I can ask in another forum if they are having issues.

Well, it’s definitely not my imagination.

Your Trakt data is likely not uploading due to an OAuth token or API mismatch caused by the Trakt v3 rollout. While your apps might successfully download and sync down data from Trakt, the reverse “upload” action is failing because third-party developers are still updating their code to match Trakt’s strict new backend database and authentication constraints. [1]

The exact issues preventing your watch history or data from uploading include:

:gear: Why Uploads Are Failing

  • Broken One-Way Syncing: Due to the API changes, many third-party apps (like Stremio, Cinema HD, and SeriesGuide) have experienced a breakdown where data pulls down normally but cannot push back up. [1, 2, 3]
  • Stale Authentication Tokens: Even if an app looks like it is logged into Trakt, the authorization token used to write (upload) new data to your account has likely expired or been invalidated by the server updates. [1]
  • Cloud Conflicts: If you use alternative cloud sync backups built into your specific media app (such as SeriesGuide Cloud), it may automatically override and disable two-way syncing with Trakt entirely. [1]

:hammer_and_wrench: How to Force a Successful Upload

To bypass the API blockages and kickstart your tracking uploads, try these standard community troubleshooting steps:

  1. Clear Credentials: Go to your media center or app settings, navigate to the Trakt section, and explicitly select Clear Credentials or Sign Out. [1, 2]
  2. Revoke on the Web: Log into the official Trakt Website, go to your Settings > Connected Apps, and revoke access for the app that isn’t uploading.
  3. Re-Authorize Fresh: Go back to your media app, trigger a brand new authorization request, and enter the fresh PIN or QR login code to establish a valid v3 upload token. [1, 2]
  4. Check for App Updates: If the re-authorization fails, check your mobile app store or GitHub repository for your specific media player. The developer may have released a hotfix to patch the broken upload API. [1, 2]

Could you tell me which specific app or add-on you are trying to upload your tracked data from? I can look up if that developer has pushed an emergency update or if there is a known alternative workaround for it.

Never thought you might be imagining this. Though it seems you’ve found an excellent solution. Most importantly make sure your apps are up to date. Hopefully the developers have addressed this. If that doesn’t work try the reauthentication suggestions. I hope you get it working. I’d be frustrated as hell without Trakit working with Kodi.

There is no solution. I’ve already tried everything.
