Unknown Date (In Library) Bug

When adding a movie to my library and tagging it as “Unknown Date,” it shows up in my library, but when idicating the medium (DVD/Blu-ray, etc.), that does not get tagged. It just shows in the library under Unknown Date.

Just to make sure we’re aligned:

  • The Library is meant to be the place where you keep track of the media you own like DVD, Blu-ray, etc. The metadata tags are displayed in the Library.
  • Adding something to your Library is not the same as marking it “watched”. Marking something Watched at “Unknown Date” means you’ve watched it but you don’t know or don’t care about the exact date. The Unknown Date is a group in your Watched list.

Now, are you trying to do one or the other or both?

If you are trying to do something else and I’m misunderstanding your point, please let me know and send me a screenshot, it will help :wink:

Sorry for the delay in replying. Crazy week.
I understand what the library is for. Been using Trakt for two or three years. I’m the one who suggested the “Unknown Date” feature. I am adding to personal collection, not watched.

  1. I opened up Weapons (2025).

  2. I selected “Add to Library” / Add metadata - DVD / Unknown Date

  3. On the movie page, “Add to Library” remains white instead of turning green. When I click on “Add to Library” again, it still shows DVD as selected. (If I choose an actual date, it does turn green.)

  4. When I go to my personal library, the Library icon on the movie poster is green, but hovering over it does not indicate the medium I own it in.
    If you go to my Library Page (https://trakt.tv/users/amon_101/collection/all/added?page=84) you should be able to hover over Weapons and see what I’m talking about.

Yeah, this one is a bug, sorry.

To be clear, the bug is the side effect of being able to “add to library at unknown date” and then see them grouped as such. It wasn’t an intentional feature, hence my misunderstanding.

I’ll log it as a bug on V2 but I’m not sure yet if we are going to fix the unintended feature or if we are just going to remove the side effect.

In the meantime, if you want to keep tagging metadata, I would suggest picking another date than that one :sweat_smile:
