I start watching a lot of shows every season and then drop most of them but they still show up in my Up Next section.
I could hide them individually but my hidden items list would grow very long and it’s a bit of a hassle, also because there isn’t necessarily a clear point where I decide to drop a show. My progress page has also grown long, so I’d need to go through hundreds of shows and hide them all to clear my Up Next.
What I would love is a feature where I could say, at any point in my Up Next or Progress list, “hide any show after this point”. I.e. auto-hide any show that has its most recent watch before the given cutoff date.
To make implementing this easier, this could be a third option in the hide popup, next to “Yes, hide it!” and “No”, e.g. “Hide it and everything after it”. The implementation could just put everything on my hide list but I feel it would be more efficient to just save the cutoff date and use it when constructing the Up Next and Progress lists. An advantage of saving the cutoff date would also be that I can just watch a show to bring it back to my Up Next – as I understand it, I have to actively un-hide a show if I decide to continue watching it.
Zooming out a bit, having old shows I’m no longer interested in pop up in Up Next is a bit discouraging. I’d love to have only my current shows in there and being able to “catch up”, maybe with the Up Next widget displaying a celebratory graphic, a bit like email clients do with inbox zero.
