Feature I would like added to the app
“Up Next” / Dashboard experience to help users prioritize what to watch immediately versus what can wait, preventing the dashboard from feeling cluttered or overwhelmed by shows with huge backlogs.
Here is a high-level overview of the proposed display logic:
Proposed Sorting Order
The dashboard should automatically organize shows into the following prioritized groups, displayed from top to bottom:
-
Airing Today (Priority 1): * Shows with an episode airing on the current day appear at the very top.
- Visual: Display a red “TODAY” badge with the air time (e.g., “8:00 PM”).
-
Catch Up / Behind (Priority 2):
-
Shows that have unwatched episodes that have already aired.
-
Sorting Logic: Crucially, these should be sorted by the least amount of episodes behind to the most.
-
Why? This allows users to quickly knock out shows where they are only 1 or 2 episodes behind before tackling shows where they are 50+ episodes behind.
-
Visual: Display a red badge indicating the count (e.g., “1 BEHIND”).
-
-
Coming Soon (Priority 3):
-
Shows that are up-to-date but have a confirmed future air date.
-
Sorting Logic: Sorted by days remaining (closest date first).
-
Visual: Display a countdown badge (e.g., “1 DAY”, “5 DAYS”, “119 DAYS”).
-
-
New Shows (Priority 4):
-
Shows added to the watchlist where no episodes have been watched yet.
-
Visual: Display a “NEW” badge.
-
-
Up-to-Date & Finished (Priority 5 & 6):
-
Shows completely caught up (waiting on a new season announcement) followed by shows that have officially ended.
-
Visual: Display “UP-TO-DATE” or “FINISHED” badges.
-
Visual Requirements
To make this list easy to scan, each item should feature:
-
Clear Badges: Overlay badges on the poster (as described above) so the status is visible at a glance.
-
Episode Details: The specific season and episode number (e.g., S01E05) displayed clearly under the show title.
This structure mimics the natural workflow of a TV fan: “What is on tonight? What can I finish quickly? What do I need to prepare for next week?”
