Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes (2)

Exactly the same thing happened to me. From April 2026 60$ will be charged, recently it was still 30$. All VIP members who have accepted the $30 offer should check whether this is still current or has been tacitly changed. An email to the support is on its way.

On Trakt, my VIP page says $60/year.

The ā€œUpdate Payment Infoā€ button goes to PayPal’s site, however, where my next payment is correctly shown as $30.

Just a word of warning @dgw
If Paypal allows them to only take $30 but your Trakt membership should be $60 then Trakt may say that you have not paid enough.
You then have 2 choices:

  1. Pay another $30
  2. Say no to paying another $30 and cancel.

Be aware their T&Cs does say that no refunds will be given should you cancel, so you risk losing $30.

Just a thought.

@changnoi It would be Trakt’s fault if the billing amount is wrong, since they set the next renewal price manually. I was paying $15/yr., which is what PayPal said until I had to contact support for the $30 offer.

Naturally, Trakt support will get a message from me first. But if Trakt reneges on that offer—just like the promise last year that OG VIP wouldn’t go up—and insists that ā€œactuallyā€ I owe $60, I’ll have zero qualms about initiating a dispute and/or chargeback.

Won’t care at that point if my VIP status continues, for obvious reasons. I’m already leaning towards canceling before the $30 renewal hits next spring… It wouldn’t take much to send me over the line.

There are alternatives to trakt’s webhook for Plex. I use one over theirs.

I’m in the same boat. At $30 I’m on the fence as I evaluate alternatives. If you now take that back, I’m definitely done. I’ve emailed support, but I never heard back on my last request and I suspect this one will be no different.

There are some issues with Paypal subscriptions that manually need to be updated. If your original subscription was $15 and the subscription renewal on Paypal states $30, it will be $30. If it says anything else, please submit a support ticket (email support@trakt.tv with your trakt username and email address) so we can look into your specific situation more closely.

If you were $30 on PayPal and it still said $30 is that correct as well? I cancelled mine as soon as the price went up but a friend left their’s, assuming that’s all they will be charged next time. If it’s not correct I’ll let them know.

It will be $60. Happy to take a closer look if they want to submit a support ticket though.

I can’t speak for support, but after chatting with my pal we reckon:

  • it’ll either fail payment
  • they’ll take your $30 and hold it to ransom for the rest, which you can either pay or lose the money (their terms state no refunds)
  • they are nice enough to realise there’s still a lot of confusion over the price rise and who is to pay what, not to mention there’s probably many that didn’t receive any email about it so won’t know, and refund if you don’t want to continue at the $60 price

It will update automatically, without a user needing to take any actions, just closer to the renewal date.

Yes. This is only referring to those that are not already showing the $60 renewal update in Paypal. As stated in the email that was sent out, all renewals for users that were on the $30 plan will be $60 on their next renewal. For some reason Paypal didn’t automatically update a few subscriptions so some users are still seeing a renewal of $30 in their Paypal subscriptions. That will be automatically updated to be $60, just closer to their renewal date. Users should already have been notified via the email that we sent out, but Paypal should also send out an email confirming the update. If you have questions specific to your account, please email support.

My billing is done by credit card via Stripe. Nevertheless, I am shown 60$ even though I have accepted the offer for a year 30$. This offer was also always displayed at ā€œManage VIPā€. Now with once no more. Now I will be shown $60 from next year. I have been waiting for a response from support for three days.

I did send emails to support and never get any answer at all.
I’m member since 2018 and really disappointed that I never get answers thru email.

And OMG. Now they took away my VIP status, because I ended the automatic payment because I suddenly discovered that, since May 2024 I even paid twice per year because they changed my ID on paypal.
I already have paid 3 May for the next year so I disabled the payment from July they were charging again and asked my money back
And now I’m suddenly no VIP anymore

Could have been solved if they would read the emails I send them
So I’m gonna look for another way to sync my watching things
