Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes (2)

13.74 years of OG VIP. I was willing to renew for another year for $30, as I had been offered coming from my original $15/year plan. Now my account says $60 for the next renewal and I somehow see 3 additional (free) months „paid for“. I don‘t get it and I don‘t want this anymore.

This is so frustrating. I liked trakt.tv for what it was. Now it goes the way of Plex with (to me) unwanted new features, added complexity and the whole „so much added costs“ attitude. I am out. Subscription cancelled. Have a good time and thank you for many good years.

There’s a display bug that’s causing the VIP Page to display $60 when the renewal is actually $30 for users who were on the $15 plan originally and opted in to one year at $30. It should be resolved soon. If you have any questions specific to your account, it’s best to email or dm support with those questions so we can provide more complete details.

Haven’t been actively looking at the forum anymore but was curious to see if they finally changed their mind… Maybe a “Sorry” and “It was stupid of us so we change it back to 30…” But I guess not!

No, and truthfully what really irks me is that when I got the notification from PayPal about the price change that Trakt seems to have made some changes by calling the prior $30 a “trial pricing”. That’s pretty much a distortion of facts.

It’s been slow at Trakt HQ.

Can I just say a big thank you to @Kristin from Customer Support when I quired my VIP payments, no delays (other than the time difference) prompt answers to my questions
It’s not all bad

I’ve been using a different service since late January, but I’ve checked in here a handful of times to see how things were going (I used Trakt for almost a decade, still feels weird not to). I saw the announcement about pricing today and honestly got a little excited about a cost reduction or even the launch of the oft-requested multi-tier model. It was hard to then read a post that was essentially digging in to defend/continue the massively unpopular decision made a few months ago.

For the sake of what the community has built over the years, part of me hopes the lights will stay on with these decisions. The people who are making them can see the back-end data, so it’s possible. And I will say there are a lot more VIP badges in this thread than the one back in January.

But it sure is difficult to see how this is the optimal/ideal long-term solution. From this side, it seems like Trakt thinks it provides a unique enough service to charge the premium cost, but personal research/experience and many of posts here about competitors suggest that moat isn’t nearly as big as they think (or it doesn’t exist at all). Pretending that Lite, minor mobile app updates, and 99.9% uptime justify charging significantly more than competitors in today’s landscape is…tough. Entropy and grandfathered fees kept people around for round one, but I’m curious what the activity stats will look like in a year after everyone has made a renewal decision.

For user who are grinding it out (or just burning VIP time that won’t be refunded) and trying to keep some semblance of the community together: good on ya. If Trakt ever adopts a multi-tier subscription model where I can just maintain a large collection (sorry, “library”) for a price that is close to competitors, I may consider it.

Where did you see that?

As noted, I’ve only checked in a handful of times since January. So yesterday was the first time I saw the announcement from 5/15.

Ah, I thought Trakt finally did a proper announcement (which I missed then), but apparently not

I am trying out Yamtrack and Watcharr as Docker containers. I don’t use Emby but the docs for both packages say Emby tracking is a feature.

I now feel bad for not also thanking @Kristin from Customer Support as I have been helped out on numerous occasions, although in my defence I have thanked on a personal level via an email.

Lol, yea, bye Trakt. $60 USD for my partner and I works out to $184 AUD per year. That’s more than paying for actual content. What a joke.

Yamtrack FTW.
