Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes

Simkl?

  • I like the Trakt interface way more
  • Trakt can mark something as watched on a specific date (and multiple times); Simkl cannot (yet)
  • I missed only 1 TV show after import (Trakt uses TMDB, Simkl uses TVDB)

For me the Trakt product with the Simkl crew would be the optimal solution…

The UI is probably more " complex" or ~busy, not in bad way, just different.
Transfer for me was seamless, there are links / how to ( specifically for Trakt haha)
The dev is super active, responsive and making changes daily , taking feedback and acting on it and as a minimum at least replying.
They use discord as the main platform, in my limited experience, I’m very impressed and hopful of a good product developing.

@iDavide94 @videntis @SnowyBoy Thank you all for the quick replies.

I took a look at the “demo” section of the website and one thing that I truly enjoy here at trakt and I did not see was the Progress page. Or at least not a page that acts in this kind of way as it does over here. But maybe it’s just a matter of time until the devs make it a reality. Or did I miss it somewhere?

You’re all lovely and truly helpful, thank you again!

Simkl somehow is able to have refresh data work a lot faster and update a lot more instantaneously. I think it’s open to everyone but has to be done one a browser with desktop mode.

I’ve made an edit on a show on tvdb then went over to simkl and clicked on refresh data just within 2 mins from making the change in tvdb and the refresh worked and updated simkl in secs. And if it doesn’t, you can report it on their discord which also is near secs to get a response from their support/developer team.

But like others said, the interface is very different and will need time to get used to.

I am in the “My TV” section but I only seem to be able to choose from table, poster and card. I dont have a ‘Progress’

You have to be a VIP level user I believe to be able to refresh. If you aren’t you need to post in the Discord

Solved it! You need to be on mobile to have it. On desktop the “progress” changes to “list”.

Ohhh gotcha. They are so darn fast to respond on discord! I don’t think they sleep :rofl:.

Imagine having a site where we can talk about the competition and how great they are no-one in the management team gives a shit. Those other guys are on the ball, they’re trying to build and they’re getting $$$ from all of us exporting to give them more resources to improve their own product, it would be crazy in most spaces, Trakt has set a new standard, haha.

Yeah, I feel that Trakt is sure that the uprising is smaller than we are expecting. I will be surprised if Trakt is still around in a year. It will take that long for the remaining members to not renew. I have sen some stupid bone headed decisions but this takes the cake.

If there is a VC behind this I look forward to uncovering who it is.

VC to me is the only reason, Justin on Non Disclosure Statement or the like makes sense.

@iDavide94 @kraftynic @LoganWolverineX Thank you!

I was merely browsing the “Demo” version on the web version so that’s why the Progress page is probably not visible. It looks like it requires a person to be logged in for this section to available for one to see.

On trakt, if you visit someone’s public profile, it’s there. But that’s something so minor.

Wonderful summaries all around, thanks again!

@justin It blows my mind that you can just ignore hundreds of people like this… people you lied to, people who supported your project for years, not because they needed it, but because they believed in you. So much of that support came from the heart, people giving their money simply because they wanted to see you succeed. Many didn’t even use the features; they just liked and trusted you. And this is how you repay them? This level of disregard is truly unbelievable. You just ghost them? Ignore us like we don’t exist? Absolutely disrespectful and pathetic. How can you sleep at night…

If you’re on iOS you can use Sofa Time, which can sync with Simkl and does allow for you to specify times and dates you watched something in the past. I think they mentioned in a recent email that there was something similar to it for Android as well. It’s also got a very nice UI.

For what it’s worth, I found that Plex’s recent support for a watchlist and watch state is probably good enough for me:

It locks me into Plex indefinitely (I haven’t found a way to export either), so probably no Jellyfin in my immediate future…but it works OK.

Considering all the lies and deceitful behaviour we’ve seen from him and the staff lately, I’m starting to doubt they even care about our opinion at this point.

They did not hold a public discussion when they changed the logo, when they changed the color scheme, when they decided to limit the free tier severely, when the VIP price went up (that’s when Justin straight up lied about our grandfathered prices and all), and when they decided to drop this bombshell on us and just disappear.

All in all, after so many broken promises, there might not be a way back for most of us. Which is a shame, but it is what it is.

Done from my side as well.

Cancelled my VIP (even tho I still have 8 months left), moved to Simkl (thanks for everyone’s suggestions, btw), imported my Trakt data (worked in seconds and everything got imported properly), cleaned up the few shows where there was data mismatch (they use TVDb for shows and TMDb for movies, Trakt uses TMDb for both) and started using the website.

Went onto their Discord and spent some time talking to the guys, they were extremely nice and helpful. They are planning to launch some of the features I know from Trakt and have been missing there (like the ability to edit timestamps on watched items or track rewatches). I even managed to spot some minor bugs which I reported, they fixed them in almost no time.

Seeing how helpful and committed they are, I chose to pay for the Lifetime VIP at $150 (but they said the amount of subscriptions at this rate is limited and will eventually run out soon). I think their product needs some work (they also know it) and I still need a bit of time to get used to it, but I’m pretty sure it’s here to stay.

As a bonus, I did a bit of research and found out Sofa Time integrates with Simkl, offering a closer experience to what Trakt’s iOS app is. Talked a bit to the owner on Reddit, he also seems like a nice fella. Payed the lifetime subscription there as well to support future enhancements and to unlock all features, it was $4 or something.

They have been saying this for ages, since before the start of this year. Doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t going to happen at some stage, I suppose. Too many $149 lifetime subscriptions and the service will become unsustainable at some time in the future.

I’ve been getting free pro on there since the beginning of the year, and still can’t quite get used to it. It’s nowhere near as good as Trakt. I really want to like it, and then I would leave Trakt forever, but it’s just not doing it for me.

It’s all these undeveloped features that still need working on, but they managed to find the time with an April fools joke bear turning off light mode if you try to activate it. Another thing is on ios, a feature telling you that your ios version is not up to date. Who needs that??? My iPhone notifies me of that everytime a new version comes out! Wouldn’t it be better not to be distracted with these trivial things and concentrate on making good on what matters?

The main feature I need is api access on v2 so that custom lists can be synced in the arrs, but that could be months or even years away. Plus the website is just so cluttered.

As I said, I have been using it daily for the last 5 months, but still don’t like the layout - at all, no matter how hard I try to get used to it. :frowning:

I have supported Trakt for nine years now. It pains me to leave but doubling the price is insane. I understand costs are rising across the board so I would have been fine with a gradual price increase. I do wonder if adding the streaming scrobbler added to their server costs. Unfortunately, I have to move on. Hopefully, I can find a suitable replacement from a few of the recommendations in this thread.

It should be possible. I managed to do it the other day. It obviously isn’t automatically maintained and you have to split the export of your Collection from here into one for Movies and one for Series.
