Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes

Switched now to simkl.

It was a good 9 year run and I loved being here all these years but considering I, like others, have been with them “since the early days” and still, we have to pay the same increase as new subscribers? I’m good, I just canceled my auto renewal (was to renew May 28).

Loyalty goes both ways

Yeah my mate that was always team Letterboxd is going to have a field day with this laughing at me because I always reccomended Trakt. Guess the joke is on me.

I wish I could understand the thought process of the bean counter who decided 0% of $60 is a better outcome than 100% of $30  but hey, thanks for saving me some cash. I’ll donate it to the EFF instead :slightly_smiling_face:

100% increase isnt worth it for me so tapping out too when my subscription ends.

I’ve been a user since the beginning and a VIP for at least 9 years, and this is how they reward loyal users and especially long-time VIPs? You call that justice? And they talk about sustainability and development?!!! What have all us VIP users been doing all these years? They’re going to lose most of the VIPs and I’m sure a lot of users too, because it’s outrageous what they’re doing.

I advise all VIPs to do the same and switch to another service, that’s the only way they’ll learn to respect their users in the future. I’ve already signed up for a VIP account with SIMKL, for me it’s the big rival and they’ve improved a lot, maybe with the arrival of several new members they’ll improve even more. I’ll laugh my ass off if one day Trakt is on the rocks.

IT’S UNACCEPTABLE. Shame on them.

LOL.

I’ve been VIP for 7 years. Just cancelled.
I opened the email expecting a $5 increase which I was willing to accept. Maybe $10. My jaw dropped when I saw the actual increase. Doubling the price? Seriously?

“Standardizing Trakt VIP renewal pricing is an important and necessary step forward. Here’s why:
Sustainability: Helps ensure Trakt remains financially healthy and independent long-term.”

Increase it so high almost everyone cancels. That will help with financial stability. Bold strategy, Cotton.

Well, he hasn’t disappointed me or anyone, but still, free features are great too, but really recommend Simkl, but everyones their own opinion ofcourse, you can always just try it, XD

Doubling the price with no perceivable increase in benefits when there’s a cost of living crisis and threat of recession happening?

Who on Earth thought this idea up?

I was struggling to even pay the $30 but I found it as I wanted to support the service but raising it to $60? You’re having a laugh

Pure greed and insanity

Like most others in this thread I have now cancelled my renewal

Even if you rethink this ridiculous decision I doubt I’ll come back - you’ve just proven that all you care about is the bottom line and not your loyal user base

What a shame

Yeah, ouch, a 400% increase going forward after next year.

$15 to $60. Rough. 13 years for this guy.

Of course, a smaller price hike each year would have been a way better idea.

I just read the mail. I thought it was a phishing mail. But it’s not. Renewal with promo is from $15 to $30 to $60 in 2 years. Without promo $15 to $60. Increase of 400%. What do I get for this?

Just like a lot more, I will also cancel my VIP-subscription before renewal (February 24th 2026).

13 years VIP btw.
Just cancelled my renewal.

I’m also canceling my subscription, I’m not using most of the new features and I still don’t like that new design… so for 2x the price?

No thanks.

Thanks for the email and update this is now set to a reminder to cancel before auto renew happens now, I can’t justify 100% increase for this.

I cancelled my VIP when they introduced the new limits for free users. That was already a bad move.
This one is insane as well.
So, keep cancelling your VIP membership but stay as a free user, so we will all be just a “cost”.
Maybe if we are enough, they’ll reconsider some of their last odd choices.

OMG - ten years down the pan. I’ve cancelled my autorenewal. Not worth 100% increase!

If you have a self-hosted solution in mind, I’d love to hear it.

Same thing here. Used Trakt for automation for ~10 years, but I’ll have to move on to other solutions

100% increase is way too much. I have enjoyed my VIP membership but this is more than I am prepared to pay.

I barely used this service over the years, but was fine with just being a support member at the price it was, this price change made me cancel. Thanks for helping me clean up some of my spendings!

I don’t usually vote with my feet, but this is out of order!
