Damn, not a single week without bad news from the Trakt team. Impressive achievement!
So let me recap,
Price increase
Shitty v3 deployed and enforced in the throat of everyone removing 80% of the features
A âMyth Bustersâ post is made, because all the users here and on reddit are lyers!
Major API changes without versioning and couple weeks of notice that act as a tentative to kill the trakt apps ecosystem
We, VIP, are going from unlimited to limited limits
A lot of the limits for the VIP are way too low and a lot of the power users are already past or close to these limits
the Trakt team doesnât understand their own choices and have no clue whatâs âDigitalâ and whatâs âPhysical / Offlineâ and think that a â1kâ limit for physical items is enough (lmao).
Trakt is getting more and more confusing with all these changes that are getting enforced for no good reasons (funny because v3 is supposed to be âsimplerâ)
the Trakt team want to enforce their way of how to use trakt and how to use lists and library because someone stuborn choose to do it, who cares about users that are here since years if not more than a decade!?
Letâs be honest guys : This a fucking circus and trakt should be ASHAMED of it!
Iâm here since now over 13y and Iâm shocked by how everything is being handled. Totally disgusted.
This is a pretty niche case. Let me give another example.
You once owned a full DVD set of a show where seasons were split across discs. Youâve now lost or damaged a disc so you now only own a physical copy of part of a season. Therefore you own physical copies of those episodes but not the whole show/season.
Oh man, I assume thatâs a slip and you meant ratings! But thatâs what I keep saying, limiting a value that fits in less than a MySQL TINYINT column (8 bits) so strictly is nuts. Let alone limiting it to less than the history limit!
Yep, one of many ways you could manage to âownâ not-all episodes of a show or season on physical media. Goes well with my previous examples in đ˘ Updating Trakt Limits for 2026 - #27 by dgw (which, Iâll note, seems to have been passed over for reply by staff).
Limiting watch history is my sign that this is end of the road for me and Trakt. I have loved this website for nearly 13 full years. I dislike a lot of the previous changes, but accepted it because things like lists, notes, etc are bonus services to me since what I really want is just a catalog of my watch history. This cap on watch history is a huge bummer, Iâm at 83k between tv and movies.
I guess Iâm going back to the old school âgiant excel spreadsheetâ method.
I already export my watch history by Show/Movie/Episodes on a semi regular basis. Copy and Paste everything to one Excel Sheet and follow the provided link to add any missing information that you think is needed. Then add formulas to simplify everything.
Been doing it for a while because shows/movies do get removed for being copies or for whatever reason every so often⌠But you donât have to start from scratch.
And as you can see, Iâm a long time Trakt VIP user (13 years) and Iâve reached the limits a long time ago.
Like other members said, it used to be Unlimited and hassle free, but going from Unlimited to Extremely Limited for long time users or heavy watchers is a bit strange.
Like others suggested, maybe a limit thatâs raised every years you are subscribed to Trakt, if itâs such a strain on servers or traffic.
Or maybe bundle digital and physical media as one overall limit, no matter what kind of media it is.
And just a final note; I guess Iâm old or something but I really donât get the new V3 layout. Itâs so not intuitive nor visually pleasing, but thatâs just my two cents. And Iâd really like to keep using V2.
So where exactly can I see my summary? I see nothing, be it in v2 or v3. App or website.
I seriously hope that the 10k rating limit is immediately reconsidered. That it was ever considered realistic, clearly tells me that whoever is responsible for these numbers didnât pay much attention to actual usage profiles.
People logging what they watch and how they rate content is actually valuable data for Trakt. Limitations should be avoided there.
