Advanced search eg show me movies on my wishlist that are "horror" and on services that are free

I would like an “advanced search” option where I could use any combination of the metadata available - ideally then also creating a URL for that search so it can be repeated (like you do with “show me my list items if they are on the services I specify”. Even better if from that search I can also generate an RSS file or email that would alert me when movies or TV shows are added that match that search.

This might not be 100% what you’re asking for, but it should be close.

  1. Load a movie section – https://trakt.tv/movies/popular is probably a good start
  2. Click the filter eye icon – hide unlisted
  3. Click advanced filters – choose Available to watch on: Free Services

You can then save the filter and it pins it to the sidebar of the movie section.

Aha - that’s a good functionality but I can’t use it on my lists - the option to hide unlisted doesn’t appears o therefore I can’t “activate” the advanced filters option which I would like! Could you “surface” this function for filtering within my watchlists and my other lists?

I’m not sure we can, behind the scenes it uses different data sources which is why the movie, tv, search, etc pages can support so many advanced filters. Lists are much more limited with what we can filter with how the data is saved behind the scenes. However, you’re able to filter the watch now services when viewing your Watchlist or any custom list.

Well if you can’t do the rest, as I suggested earlier it would be handy if I could have an email alert or RSS feed when a movie or TV series (or new episodes of a series) “arrives” or is about to arrive on a group of sources I define (eg all sources I subscribe to) or when it is about to leave one of them and it is on my wishlist (or another list I am tracking). You do have all of the data needed to keep track of that, no?

Yes, we do hope to add email notifications when things on your watchlist are available on your favorite streaming services.

Returning to this because I was trying to do something similar. What does “hide unlisted” do? Hide any movie or show that isn’t on anyone’s list? That isn’t on any of my own lists?

I would like to be able to search or filter movies using my ratings - so (real example) I could make a list for a friend of all of the comedy movies I have rated 7 or better.

Is there a Movies or TV section that includes ALL movies or TV to start with, which one could filter down from?

Hide unlisted is only for your own lists, it will hide anything not any of your lists. Another way to think of it is items without the blue list icon will be hidden.

This can be done, but only for a single rating and not 7+. I’d recommend using the built in ratings instead of creating a list that would need to manually be updated. Here’s an example with movies, comedy, rated 7.

Yes, the search page without a query lists all movies and TV shows.
