I use Trakt a lot and also use TMDB A lot. One hard thing is to know when something is related to an anime. On AniDB you see a sequel/prequel relation to another anime.
For example:
You have the series Fruits Basket:
This series got a prequel in the form of a movie. On sites like MAL and Anilist you get notified when something related to your anime is added. But since we can’t add movies to specials as duplicate I could miss this whole movie that is related to the anime:
Is there any way to get this sorted someway? Now I can’t use Trakt as standalone because I need to use MAL next to it to get a notification when something related to the anime I watch is released.
on other site you only see direct relations. not the indirect ones. (or well, not on MAL, and only on another tab I think on anidb).
But I don’t think they have anything like an API.
I know TMDB has universes planned. That way the movies and series can all be linked together. But that’s for the future.
Unless TMDB does their universe thing I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
A workaround option you can try is using https://anitrakt.huere.net/ to sync trakt to MAL and then load your MAL account into https://anime.plus/ and it will show you related items that you’re missing (at the bottom of the “Recommended” section). eg:
