Automatically sync your streaming services!

I will ask them for clarification, but on the actual sign in page Younify indicates they don’t view or share your password. It is my understanding the authentication is tokenized but not saved directly.

Well, in their privacy policy page they’ve written the opposite…

I got more clarification how the sign in works. The password that is collected by the Younify SDK never leaves the device and never gets sent to the Younify servers. It is encrypted in the device’s local keychain to simplify any re-sign ins that are needed.

Side note: Trakt will email you if a service connection breaks and you need to re-authenticate.

As a general rule, I would also turn on multi factor auth for all your streaming accounts which adds another layer of security.

@SummerBran Are you able to login with hardware key to this apple website in the browser on your iOS device? Can you email support@trakt.tv a video of the sign in not working in the Trakt app and the direct website sign in flow as well?

Apple TV same as all gets to hardware key and then does nothing, Hulu I enter email and password, get the code via email yet, the app states that the code is invalid.

Oh my goodness Christmas came early this year! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR IMPLEMENTING THIS FEATURE! Will support for Rakuten Viki be coming in the future?

I connect the services Netflix and Prime without any problem. Even got an email from Netflix saying that I have connected a new device to my account.

But 2h later it says that it hasn’t synced yet even I did select existing data…

@Unkn0wn1d What country are you in? I just want to verify Hulu is natively available since that could also be causing the sign in issue.

From what I can tell, you indicated to skip the existing data sync. You should be able to go back in the Streaming Scrobbler settings and unlink each service. Once you sign in again, it should ask you the same question and you can say to sync the existing data.

Thanks so much for developing this feature, Justin! It must be quite complicated, but it has the potential to elevate Trakt to a full-fledged media center!

I’m still on the beta app channel, and have seen some strange scrobbler behaviors. So I have some observations to share and questions to ask.

I was excited 2 days ago when I learned of the feature, and activated scrobblers for the 3 account t,ypes available at the time: Hulu, Netflix, and Prime Video.

Observation: I saw data records start to flow in from Netflix and Hulu very quickly. Prime never synced in the ~3 hours I had it active. But I am pretty sure I saw my Hulu views come in with the current date, rather than the release date your post mentions.

I didn’t look at the entire Watched list, but it jumped out at me because Devs was atop the list dated Dec 3, and I watched that years ago on Hulu.

So I decided I should back up, slow down, and test the scrobblers more methodically. I deactivated all the scrobblers in the mobile app, and used the Advanced Settings to Undo all the synced items. Then I reactivated the Hulu scrobbler to watch more carefully as it re-synced.

My Questions: It’s been almost 48 hours since I turned it back on, and Trakt has not yet synced with Hulu. Perhaps it’s just taking some time. But I’d like to know what behavior to expect. Will I see all my past views synced again from Hulu? Or will it skip any prior synced views that I “Undid”, and only sync future views? Does the Advanced Settings scrobbler page note every attempted sync, even those that have no new items to sync? Or does it only list checks that find new views to sync over?

Since clearing out my prior syncs, I’ve also now signed in to AppleTV. My observation about that is it took a couple of attempts before Trakt picked up the connection. I’d be dropped back to the Scrobbler settings with the “Add” button showing for AppleTV. Eventually the 2nd or 3rd attempt it did show the connection animation, and the account appeared “active”. After a few hours 25 recent views from AppleTV synced in to my Watched history.

Please describe a little more about how the recurring sync works, and what we can expect in order to give you feedback and performance reports.

Thank you again!

Oh weird, yeah it should use release date for the initial sync. Hulu doesn’t save watched dates, so it’s the best we can do for the initial sync unfortunately. Will look into this more.

Internally we already had “last sync” date, so it is only looking for data moving forward. If you write in a support ticket, we can manually do a full sync for you.

No, it only logs syncs that resulted in data being synced to your account.

Ongoing data should be synced about every 24 hours. We will work to improve the frequency.

Hopefully “more to come” is referring to Crunchyroll, only streaming service I use nowadays after setting up Plex. :crossed_fingers:

Netflix Scrobbling was available before, and was not behind vip paywall. Is the old netflix scrobling (available for free) removed permanenetly?

LOVE this, hopefully Paramount+ will follow soon.

Trakt has not had native Netflix scrobbling before. There were some 3rd party apps that did this, but I don’t believe those projects are active anymore.

Yes, planning to support this.

I don’t think MTV Katsomo (mtv.fi) is supported by the 3rd party service this uses behind the scenes so I don’t think Trakt will be able to support it either as a result?

What about now @justin?

Sorry, probably missing something really obvious but I can’t see scrobbler options in Profile, Settings? I’m running Trakt IOS app v2.2 (726) and there doesn’t appear to be a newer version in the Apple app store. Maybe a region limitation? I’m in the UK. Thanks.

sorry, but their privacy policy state otherwise and keeps giving me goosebumps:

We collect several types of information from and about users of our Service, including information:

  • By which you may be personally identified, such as name, e-mail address, telephone number, third-party account information (including your user names and passwords associated with streaming media accounts that you choose to connect with Younify) (”personal information”);

and again:

In addition, we will provide the third-party application developer with your name, email address, and a variety of information from third-party streaming services that you choose to connect, including a list of shows and movies you have watched, the percentage of those shows and movies you have watched, your ratings and/or reviews of shows and movies on the service, the service’s curated list of content recommended for you (such as “continue watching,” your favorites list, and content that the service recommends for you), and what service plan on the streaming media service you are currently and/or were previously subscribed to. The third-party application developer will handle this information, along with any other information it may collect

People signing with this Younify with their Netflix account get a notification of “new device added”.
That means that “device” (“something” running on their servers) can do anything that a trusted device can do.

And what about Prime Video? that trusted device can go to Amazon Drive? Amazon Photo?

I’m surely paranoid, but their privacy policy is worrying and there is 0% chance that I’ll give my Prime o Apple ID account/password.

I’ll keep tracking shows manually and keep my account safe.

my 2 cents.

I appreciate the idea, but the third-party service it relies on does not inspire me with confidence in its policy, I had already expressed doubts during the beta period, so I will continue manual scrobbling as I have for the past 9 years.

Okay Netflix, maybe, but giving access to my Apple ID that contains my entire digital life, better not. Sorry
