Automatically sync your streaming services!

Was able to connect Prime but it never synced. I clicked on manage to remove it and now its stuck. It just says inactive and the android app crashes trying to sign back in and link. Done it several times to where captcha appears and it crashes afterwards.

It’s possible there’s some form of delays for updates. If you haven’t already, I’d double check for new updates in the App Store app by tapping your profile in the top right and pull to refresh that screen which should force the App Store to check for updates.

I’m worried about data privacy as well and want to wait until it’s 10000% confirmed what data is accessed and what is done with it. I don’t own the account for all my streaming services so I think it’s important to know before connecting.

You’re not paranoid you’re just diligent

I’ve never used scrobbling before and have a few questions about tracking let’s watch.
What happens if you watch half an episode of a show? Does that count as a full episode watch does it ignore it until you complete the episode.

If you are watching a show and have autoplay turned on with that streaming service and is goes to a different show after you completed the previous. Does that autoplayed show now show up under your ‘Up Next’ queue? This is the problem that I have with Peacock because I can never get rid of the auto-played shows from my continue watching. (This happens when I fall asleep usually). I know I can turn auto play off on streamer but just want to understand the functionality of scrobbler and how it interacts with Trakt.

I’ve had the same issue with connecting Prime Video.

Love the idea though, a huge step forward for Trakt!

Hi @justin !

I’m having the same issue, infinite loop trying to log into Hulu. The other integrations look great!

The response I posted above was info directly from Younify regarding the password only being used on device. It is my understanding your device creates the access token needed to get the data from the streaming service.

Regarding the 3rd party, that would be Trakt in this case. So that clause is referring to the data we’re using to sync. Trakt doesn’t use the name or email since we already have that on your Trakt account. Also, when we you agree to create a younify account, Trakt doesn’t send any personal info (name, email) to Younify, only the Trakt ID to associate the accounts.

We are looking into the Prime Video sign in issues. What region are you in?

We only sync items watched at least 80%.

Yes, it would consider it watched.

What region are you in?

Great feature, been hoping for something like this. My Apple TV hasn’t synced at all, despite unlinking and relinking, also I’ve had no syncs run after 24 hours. I’ve definitely watched another film on Netflix since the sync.

Any suggestions on process to follow to kick it going?

If it were true, why does enabling this feature, for example with Netflix, result in a new “trusted device”? If it’s the same device I use for Netflix (say my Apple TV), it’s not a “new” device. The “new” device is something running on their servers, and with this so-called token, it can access my Netflix account to sync watched content and so on.
But once the “device” is authorized, it can do whatever it wants with the Netflix account, in theory, ain’t it?
At the risk of repeating myself and sounding even more pedantic than I already am, THEIR policy page says something different from what you say they told you.
So, either their policy page is incorrect (bad! concerning!) or they’re not accurately explaining how this mechanism works and what they are actually “authorized” to do once they obtain the token.
It’s undoubtedly a great feature, but given all these “unclear” points, I prefer to stay away from it, especially with accounts like Amazon or Apple.
anyway thanks for trying to clarify.

Are you saying your Netflix shows a new device logged in after you’ve authorized it?

I’m not seeing anything new in mine at all besides having seen the initial confirmation that a new device logged in which is obviously to be expected. Same with Amazon, there’s no mysterious new device. Same with Apple. Nothing is showing any other device logged in anywhere besides the ones I use.

Also, from my understanding the “device” logged in would be me / my Trakt account with a token stored locally so how exactly is anyone else able to run anything?

Hi, great feature but isn’t working for me. Switched it on yesterday but still no activity. Do I do something wrong?

I haven’t tried anything at all since what I read in their policy page make me scream “no way dude”.
I’ve reported what I’ve read here in the forum and what I suppose happens behind the Trakt app.
you open Trakt app on, say, your iPhone. you try the new functionality and decide to connect to Netflix. You access Netflix to “give” Trakt (in reality Younify) the access to your Netflix account in order to scrobble the content. ok.
but the scrobblling (is it an english word?) is not happening on your iPhone. is happening on Younify servers.
open Netflix on your smart TV and start watching. the content is in sync with Trakt? Then the sync is done on Younify server, not “locally” (like with the Plex scrobbler).
they’re using the token that authorized their server to access your Netflix account.
who knows what Younify can do with that token? they gained access to your account. some stuff on their server can access your account and “read” what you watched and when.
but since there is no Netflix API that can be used for this (otherwise this functionality would be developed/implemented directly from Trakt!), their basically “parsing” the browser version on Netflix and grab everything from there.
so… with Amazon Prime Video? they have a token. for my Amazon account? that could mean that they could access anything related to my Amazon account?
I don’t know. I’m asking. but this scare the sh*t out of me.
and make me scream “never!”

@justin I am in the USA.

It is my understanding from reading more about tokens that they are far more limited in scope than you’re imagining. They’re geared to provide specific permissions to certain data only. IMHO there’s no way your actual account details and payment methods are accessible through the use of a token.

Maybe read this for a better understanding: What Is an Access Token (and How Does It Work)?

And remember the token is stored by you on your devices not elsewhere.

I keep getting Unable to sign in to Apple TV+. Try Again.

Is it region-specific? I am in the UK so not sure if that matters?

Have you tried refresh of the page? Also restarting the device? :eyes:

Does the sync every 24 hours start from the “first setup” or is at every day at a certain time?

I wish the concerned VIP members could have some sort of zoom call or webinar with someone from younify so we could ask all our privacy questions
