Can someone please explain the new limits on watchlist and personal lists?

I just saw the new updates to the watchlist, personal lists, etc. Will this only affect the movies I have on my watchlist, or also my shows watchlist? Also, what happens to the shows/movies that are already watched?

Have a read of this to see if that explains it for you. If not perhaps someone else can help you.
New Limits

Yes, I saw that one as well and it’s kind of vague whether it affects movies AND shows or just movies.

This will only affect your lists and collections, not your watched history.

Your watched history is not the same as your watchlist, nothing you have marked will be removed and you can continue to watch stuff and mark them normally.
This will affect the ‘Watchlist’ as that is the list of things you plan to watch, not what you are currently watching. I see yours currently has 96 items, so you can still add 4 items(either shows or movies) there without any problems.

Thank you! This puts me at ease about the changes.

To me, the easiest way to understand what lists are limited and the current counts, is (on the website) use the pulldown in the top right and select “lists” to navigate to that page. If it’s not on that page, or the other list pages (top left on this view), it’s not limited. Counts appear for each list on the right end of each list’s bar. (Note: Collections are also limited)

I know you probably already got your answers, but wanted to give a little more context…

*** Change the username to your actual username ***

Your watch history: https://trakt.tv/users/username/history
and
Your watch progress: Sign in to Trakt - Trakt

have not change and are not affected by the “Watch List” and personal “Lists” limits. So essentially the tracking of things has not changed.

If you stay on the free version, you’ll just have to be diligent to only list 100 shows that you know for a fact you’ll watch relatively soon in your Watch List (that list gets cleaned out every time you mark a movie/show watched). Then you have two personal lists you can add more items too and slowly move them over. Hope that helps!

Can you then clarify something for me.
Example: 90 shows in watchlist.

I then move 10 to watching/ up next

Does that reduce my watchlist to 80?

Yes. That’s how watchlist works. Once you mark an episode or movie as watched, it moves from watchlist to up next/watched history automatically.

Thank @loganwolverinex

I wasnt referring to marking a show as watched.

But moving it from watchlist to watching/ up next etc.

So, it reduces your warchlist numbers?

If so, it would be beneficial to reduce the watchlist by moving some across to watching/ up next etc.

once you watch an episode of a show it automatically moves it from your watchlist. that’s the only way to move it to the watching/up next section

Thank you. I understand that principle.

And thus reduces your " watchlist?

yes correct

Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.

it’s the same deal… as soon as you move it to “watching” as you so call it… it is the same thing as adding it to your watched history…

there’s also no such trakt status called “watching”
