Having problems logging in with Firefox 97.b9 Linux—No issues with Google Chrome. FF displays a blank page after credentials are entered.
Is that a beta version? If so, does it work with the latest release version?
AFAIK I’m using the most recent beta. For some reason, your site if fingerprinting browsers, why?
We don’t do anything specific, but I have seen beta browsers have issues in the past. Does the release version work?
For what it’s worth, no issues on Firefox (Mac) here, either via password, or Apple login.
Working here now, nothing changed on my side. Anyway @justin I’m not very happy that your company is doing browser fingerprinting. Could you disable that JavaScript, please?
Please provide more details on what script you’re referring to. Maybe it’s from Cloudflare?
No, don’t think it comes from Cloudflare, most likely one of the Facebook scripts. Are you using their API on the login page? Guess you have to, if people want to share to FB. Don’t know if that is what your audience likes, I surely don’t care for any Facebook tracking, as I block 'em globally.
We don’t support Facebook login or sharing, so it’s not that. What’s the specific script?
My apologies, I didn’t recognize that Facebook was no longer an option to sign in with, It used to me in my recollection.
Anyways to answer your question, it will be one of the entities in the attached screengrab. I’m not going to look through each one as they’re most likely obfuscated anyway, besides not my responsibility. Browser fingerp
rinting is annoying.
O, forgot to mention, my browser is no longer throwing that warning. Yours truly was getting the warning using the web extension ‘Javascript Restrictor’. You can read more about it, here: https://jshelter.org/
Stripe is used for VIP payments. Google analytics is a common one. I’m not sure what the 2 doubleclick ones are for, but my guess is those are showing up prior to being sign in as a VIP on the site? Once you are signed in as a VIP, none of the display ad stuff is loaded.
OK, The browser fingerprinting is back. Unless this is disabled, I will NOT renew my VIP pass. There is no reason why you have browser fingerprinting enabled on the login page. No, I do not know which script it is, Justin—That’s your job to figure out.
I enjoy using Trakt, but this fingerprinting is a no-go for me.
As I mentioned before, we’d need more details. I’m not 100% even sure what you are referring to as browser fingerprinting. That’s fine if you don’t want to provide any more info, but without the specific script you are referring to, how can I provide an answer?
The sign up page uses Recaptcha, I don’t think the sign in page does though.
The “Javascript Restrictor” extension uses heuristics so it could be a false positive.
That extension was just updated an hour ago so perhaps the issue has been fixed in the latest release.
FFS I pointed you to a reference source up thread. It’s hard to believe that people running such a huge website don’t know what Web Fingerprinting is! It can uniquely identify an individual and track them! Have you not tried to find out information, Justin? Here you go.
It could be a false positive, I have me doubts, though. We’re talking about a website that used to allow people to log in with their Facebook ID (in the past). Thankfully that’s gone. These devs on Trakt seem to be Apple nerds and probably like the information that browser fingerprinting provides them for marketing and site knowledge.
What is the exact url you are viewing and the exact browser fingerprinting script it detected?
We don’t capture this info for marketing, and any ad scripts aren’t even loaded when you’re signed in as a VIP. It must be related to a service we use, but I would need specifics. In the above screenshot I explained what all those scripts are doing.
The login pages on both website and forums. I just checked it’s still throwing it up.
I updated my extensions and ‘Javascript Restrictor’ is at 0.7.1. I assume that’s the latest?
