Forced v3 redirect is a mess

In January I posted this: “Imagine if they put classic behind a pay wall… I wouldn’t be surprised :joy: lol“ I can’t stop laughing…

does anyone know if this is the “finished” app for non-members?? Are they going to fix this?

No info display texts on any button is insane. And where’s that out of 10 rating system? I mean, I don’t mind this new UI and your data is not behind the paywall anymore (at least for now), but all the accessories are gone.

try clearing your browser cache. I’ve seen several of these posts from other users but I have yet to experience it when i load up v3

thanks, but i tried this already and no changes… and like you said, it’s not an isolated issue

can you try another browser, or even better if you can emulate different resolutions (from your current browser)? on v2 there were very very specific resolutions that had display issues

well on safari it doesnt load… what do you mean by emulating different resolutions? sorry im not a dev ^^

i use firefox, but it works for chrome as well, where you can turn on the Dev Tools to emulate different screen types/sizes to see how the webpages change. I don’t know what the command would be on a mac but on windows you would press F12 on the keyboard to get the options for emulation

usually looks like this icon when you can get the dev tools open, then you can change to various “devices”

I think the new UI looks cleaner, but after using Trakt for at least 6–7 years, I feel that several important features have been lost or made much harder to use. Since the update, the experience has unfortunately become quite frustrating.

Some of the main issues I’ve noticed:

  • It’s no longer easy to set a custom watched date (the old long-press option was much faster).

  • I can’t find a way to see when a specific episode or movie was watched.

  • The “last watched” information for series seems to be missing.

  • The monthly viewing activity bar chart on the homepage appears to be gone.

  • Watch history navigation is very difficult.

  • It’s no longer possible to mark unaired episodes as watched, which was useful in some legitimate cases.

  • I also couldn’t find information about how long I’ve been using Trakt, which used to be easy to access.

While the redesign looks good visually, it feels like functionality has regressed, and it’s disappointing that users were forced into the new UI without an option to keep the previous version.

Simkl is the best alternative that I’ve found. The interface is nowhere near as good as Trakt v2, but a whole universe better than this horrific v3 mess.

Maybe that was my issue with V3. I couldn’t mark episodes as watched no matter what I did. They were episode 1 of Shows from YEARS ago though.

Switched back to using SeriesGuide and/or Showly apps.

  • I was able to install both onto my laptop
  • SeriesGuide also has an non Trakt cloud option if you want to try that… but it’s still an app.

You can see if there’s an app available that can be connected to Trakt that works for you.

  • Most should be way better than V3, but they have been available for years.
