Freemium Experience: More Features for All with Usage Limits

As an existing VIP you’re still on the $30 plan (unless you cancel it). So why would something that does not impact you trigger you to cancel it?

@justin If this is the case, then why am I unable to finish collecting the episodes of my last show (above 100)? They shouldn’t add to the counter. Again, the biggest issue, in my opinion, is the 100 item limit on what you can collect.

@terryapodaca I’m not sure who you think you are, but it really sounds like you are giving out unsolicited “advice” and try to tell people how they should be using the site. How about getting off of your high horse?

Thank you for the recommendation! If Trakt doesn’t reverse their decision about limiting wishlists, then I may move over to Showly.

This earlier post explains it pretty well. Sure, things are constantly getting checked off, but in the time it takes me to watch 10 or 20 episodes of a TV show, I might hear of two or three movies I want to watch. Congrats, I’ve just replaced one TV show on my watchlist with three movies. :slightly_smiling_face:

FWIW, it’s not me flagging posts either. :slightly_smiling_face:

Instead of trying to put people in your position to make them understand your side of things, you should try to put yourself in their position and understand their problem. This update doesn’t affect me much since I don’t have lists that go beyond 100 on Trakt but thats cause I maintain my watchlist on Google. And everytime I add 10 movies to my Google watchlist, 3-4 of them are left there forever. It quickly adds up if you only watch half of the things you add. For people who add TV shows too, by the time they finish one series, they could have added 20+movies while barely clearing 1-2 of them.

But the way you are saying to use favourites and personal lists as a secondary Watchlist, its kind of thoughtless to say so, I mean thats your fav list. And people could be using their personal list to have Spy movies, Superhero, Sci-Fi, etc. Whats the point of them if they are gonna turn into watchlist and whats the point of having 4 watchlist, if you won’t be able maintain any of them. Trying to maintain one watchlist can be tough enough. Watch/completion percentage will only decrease if you try to have more than one watchlist while also having higher FOMO. This is not a big problem for a TV guy, but its a huge problem for movie buffs and a even bigger problem for people who are primarily movie buffs but occasionally watch TV.

I don’t see how I am “battling,” and the fact that you see it that way tells me that you still do not understand our point. (I say “our” because multiple people in this thread have also explained why they have >100 items in their watchlist.) I am also unaware of any attacks that you need to “defend [your] side of things” from.

That said, @itiswhatitis also did a good job of explaining why a watchlist might have more than 100 items:

I would also add that watching a TV show with 10-20 episodes is hardly “binge-watching.” It takes me at least 10-20 days to watch that much TV. Hardly binging. But now you’d have me prioritize my TV watching in such a way as to remove things from my watchlist faster. Do you see that if I did that, I would be able to watch only movies, and, eventually, my watchlist would have only TV shows with lots of episodes since, obviously, many shows make more episodes every year.

This seems like a good time to punt. Justin posted this five days ago and has since doubled down even after hearing everyone’s issues with the changes. I do not anticipate the new restrictions being eased. Fortunately, Showly works great even without Trakt backstopping it.

Best of luck to everyone who’s still on Trakt!

Add me to the list of being hidden. I’m out of this discussion.

You are right, everyone should get VIP who have issues and you should show that you stand behind Trakt by opting to pay for full $60. Even better, I think Trakt should make it $60 for existing VIP as well to show equality, I’m sure that would fix a lot of revenue issues while giving the existing VIP better chance to support them.

Certainly, they must already have a plan in place for this as they see how some of the VIP users are backing them so much while people who get monthly VIP(maybe 4-6times a year) only to support Trakt choose not as it makes no sense to occasionally get VIP anymore.

I just don’t think everyone who’s responding to you and disagreeing with you is necessarily a “triggered snowflake”, “younger folk” or trying to battle you. For the most part it’s just healthy forum disagreement, and there’s no need to be defensive.

I was with you until this. Now it just seems like you’re trolling them. You know it’s $60 for them.

I did read the other replies and my comprehension skills are on point. And just to get this out of the way I’m 41 so you can’t call me young. “What you’re now suggesting has already been requested a few times. You can back read to confirm what I’m saying.

The 100 items limit for me, together with a VIP so expensive, it’s a no.
I have 950 items in my watchlist (stuff I want to see sometime).
I already synced everything on SIMLK, after so many years, I’ll be leaving Trakt for another platform.
I hope you reconsider this change.
Regardless, thank you for everything. You’ve been great, until now.

I’ve been using Trakt with Kodi since 2012….but only to sync my shows, movies and resume points. I have zero interest in anything else with Trakt. For me to now spend US$60 (~AU$100) just to do the bare minimum mentioned above is absolutely ludicrous.

I had no idea these restrictions were even happening until I logged into Trakt tonight to see if there was any indication as to why I couldn’t add any new shows to my Trakt Collection in Kodi. When I checked out all the changes and then saw how much VIP would cost - again, just to do the bare minimum I need - I was gobsmacked. I understand that things need to change over time and that these economic times are tough, but I was thinking that VIP might be around the US$30 point and I could possibly justify spending that. But US$60 is just taking the pi$$.

All I can say is “Sayonara, Trakt”….you were fantastic until you got crazy greedy. I’ve now exported all of my Trakt data and am looking at Simkl instead.

I’m genuinely blown away that Trakt thinks US$60 annually is reasonable. Just….wow.

This application initially provided excellent functionality for managing viewed and desired films and tv shows; however, the recent introduction of a paid subscription to increase list capacity is excessive. While reasonable subscription fees are acceptable, the annual cost of $60 (or $6 monthly), equivalent to R1112.83 (or R111.83 monthly) in South Africa, is considered excessive for the added functionality. Consequently, I will be transitioning to an alternative app.

Yep, it’s crazy. For Australians, US$60 is ~AU$100……online currency converters say AU$95.22 but the actual amount we’d end up paying would likely be between AU$99 and $102. Who the heck can justify paying that, especially if it’s only to sync lists/collections?!!
