How can I stop a list from auto-switching to sorting by Rank, when clicking on Manage button?

All I want to do is manage a list and delete some shows from it.
The problem is, that as soon as I enter editing mode by clicking on MANAGE → for some reason the list switches to sorting by Rank. If I then try to select a different sort option, the list leaves the edit mode.

Is there any way to make trakt stop behaving like this?

This is so frustrating  And especially for large list

And the list default sorting setting is NOT even by Rank… huh

Help, please.

That is by design. The list needs to be in ranked order for editing since the order is adjusted when items are removed or their position is changed.

By design? But why? Could you maybe separate ordering from deleting based on sorting option chosen.
I mean, as it is now - it’s really confusing an not user friendly.

Maybe it’s just me personally, but editing a large list without sorting options is pretty much unusable.

Can the lists be edited using the API?
I can’t seem to find an option to edit the list in the docs: Trakt API · Apiary

:point_up_2:

This is actually the first time I’ve heard it being an issue and list editor has always worked like this.

You can also click the blue list icon on a specific item, and remove it from a list that way.

The API can be used to edit list items.

Hi Justin, I have a question related to this topic. As you’re aware most movies in a series, (sequels, prequels, documentaries about the movie) do not necessarily have the same name. I like to put the actor and the movie series together. However, when I click on MANAGE, the list switches to RANK & the list is out of order & difficult to sort as my list is now mixed up.

Do you have any advice/suggestions on how I should be making a list based on what I want, (movie series etc together)?
I must say that I don’t quite understand what RANK ORDER is. If this is a default order, what is it?
I like making lots of lists & if I knew the best way to start the list & sort it, it would be easier for me.
Thanks for your help.

Rank order is your custom order for a list. It lets you drag content to reorder or by typing order number. You can then have that list sort by rank by default if you would like. Which is what I think you are looking for. See here and scroll to “Manage a specific list” to see what I mean…

Thank you so much for the clarifying this. I can’t wait to start cleaning up my many lists :star_struck: I’d like to follow you on Trakt but I can’t find you. I think I’m following you on here (the Forums). I find what I’m saying quite funny in an odd way,
'No I’m not a stalker" :female_detective:

:+1: LOL That is because I really only use Trakt as a database for tracking stuff, not as a social media platform so my account is private.

:sob: too bad, so sad

Re-ordering has changed with the new updates of paginated lists. Go into manage mode (or type ‘m’ on your keyboard) then click any rank bubble. Type in the new position and press enter. It no longer switches to rank ordering first.
