Import and Sharing bug

I used Konsensus, an app that lets you sync Trakt and Letterboxd. I use Trakt for TV and Letterboxd for movies. So when I used the app and turned the sync on, it not only synced my TV shows but also somehow imported my Letterboxd movies to Trakt, and worse, since I had Mastodon connected to my Track account, Trakt posted my entire movie history or as much as Mastodon allowed it to (100+) to my account.

Now dunno whom should I scream at? Konsensus for syncing my movies from Letterboxd to Trackt or at Trakt for sending all my movie history to MAstodon? The latter was more irritating and difficult to clean up tho.

Can’t put that on Trakt ofcourse

Was/is automatic sharing to Mastodon for movies enabled in your account settings? Social Sharing. If yes, then Trakt just did what you asked it to. If not, there’s an issue at Trakt’s side that needs to be fixed.

The second one caused me more to get mad. The first one was fine but I wish I had an idea the app would do that. I deliberately keep my movies and TV shows on different services.

I’m not sure if automatic sharing for movies was enabled because I never used movie logging. I mean, I had connected Trakt to Mastodon a long time ago, but it never shared anything automatically when I logged my TV shows. I’ve now simply disconnected Mastodon from Trakt. In any case, Trakt shouldn’t have posted (or tried to) post my entire (1000+) movie history at the same time. Posting it moving forward would still be acceptable.

I hope the latter gets fixed before someone else gets burned.

Not that it helps now but, as VIP, you can backup your Trakt data to a cloud service (assuming you have one) on a regular schedule. This would have allowed you to delete everything and restore from a backup from before you merged data.

Social sharing only happens on scrobbles or checkins, not when syncing past watches. I wonder if the app has a bug with their syncing logic? It could have also been your ratings being shared and not the watches?

Yes, I mean, I didn’t have movies in Trakt (now apparently I do), so the app clearly got my movies data from Letterboxd and then copied it over to Trakt. I’ve informed the developer, and he has promised to make that change (in his words - “since no other user (including me) uses it the way you do, such a possibility did not come to my mind. I’m really sorry about this situation”).

Anyway, when it imported the movies data, it also got the ratings data and then proceeded to post ALL of them to Mastodon. I just wish that doesn’t happen.

Update: The Konsensus developer has now deleted the movies from my Trakt account and has now disconnected the movies part from Trakt from the app. The app will continue to sync my TV shows on Trakt.
