Please create "Jump to next upcoming" and "Jump to oldest unwatched" links in the Progress page

First I’d like to say that I use the progress page in Trakt to check the very next upcoming episodes of my TV shows or the unwatched aired episodes of my TV shows far more than anything else. But below I have detailed both the very awkward and ineffective problem this has always had and my proposal for a solution.

I have my Progress sorted by “Release Date” and under filters I have “Include — Future Episodes” checked. I also have it sorting down (↓) by newest to oldest. This results in the most distant upcoming show displaying first (in my case it’s the upcoming Star Wars: Visions season 3 premier releasing in October) and this is followed by all other upcoming episodes getting closer and closer to today’s date & time. Below this there are all my unwatched aired with my most recently aired unwatched episodes being at the top and my least recently aired unwatched episodes lower down. Lastly in this list’s structure are all the shows that I’ve completed (regardless of whether they are returning, completed, or cancelled) and they are ordered based on their final aired episode from most recent to least.

The problem I’ve always had is that I have to scroll and scroll past all the upcoming episodes (many of which are often often many months out) to look for one of 2 things: 1) what is the oldest aired episode of any of my shows that I need to catch up on, and 2) what upcoming episodes are airing next to look forward to? It’s also very common for me to have to scroll so much that I scroll right past the section I’m looking for. I feel this could be easily remedied in 1 of 2 ways. The simplest would be to create links at the top that say something like “Jump to next upcoming” which would scroll me down to the next upcoming episode to air, and also another link under it that says “Jump to oldest unaired” which would scroll down even farther to the oldest aired episode I have yet to watch. There are two sections outlined in red in this picture I uploaded where these “Jump to…” links could go:

Though instead of links there could possibly be a drop down menu for this, or even arrow navigation buttons in the bottom right of the screen (mobile or desktop) to scroll back up to the top or up section by section (↑), or down a section (↓). In the case of navigation buttons a toast message could pop up that says what section you’re at, or the sections could have headers added to indicate why it took you there and help with navigation too.

Perhaps the most complicated solution would be allowing a means for people to custom organize these sections themselves using drop-down menus. You could sort how you want the upcoming episodes section (oldest or newest first or completely hidden, and whether you want it before or after the unwatched aired episodes), and you could structure the unwatched aired episodes (most or least recent first). To be honest, this seems like it would be very complicated especially for the average user, so I would recommend simply creating an option to jump to each preferred section and we can scroll from there.

Thank you for the consideration of this much needed feature.

Well.. if you just unchecked future episodes it would be fixed? You can toggle it on and off again. That’s the same as clicking a button that’s of no use for most people :see_no_evil_monkey:

Curious, why do you have future episodes enabled? There’s no progress to be made on future episodes.

And for oldest unwatched, doesn’t the last number in the pagination combined with pagedown or something go to your oldest unwatched?

I mentioned this as my second reason for needing this feature.

I don’t care so much about episodes airing in September or whatever that are months out. But I want to know if a show comes back tonight, or when the next episode of a show is airing if Trakt knows that. The main reasons I use Trakt are to track the episodes I’ve watched, check the episodes that I have available to watch, and check whatever shows and episodes are upcoming. That’s like 95% of my Trakt usage, with the other 5% being organizing lists.

And for your last question, that’s not how it’s set up. Even if I unchecked ‘future episodes’ then at the top of my list would be the most recent show to air an episode I haven’t watch. But after that there are all the shows that I have completed and are tagged with either “Returning next season”, “Ended”, or “Cancelled.” So for me, after the future episodes I have Clarkson’s Farm because I’m 4 episodes behind. Then a few down I have Last Week Tonight because that’s the oldest episode of any show O haven’t watched. After that is The Handmaid’s Tale because I completed that and the last episode was more recent than any other show (it was on Monday night). And at the very end, pages later, is The Twilight Zone because I completed that and it’s final episode was older than the final episode of any other show. So even if I unchecked future episodes, I would still want a “jump to oldest unwatched” link.

You can use the calendar feature for that! That’s the perfect way to have an overview of what’s gonna air this month or for example next month.

Aha! Yeah Ive always set it up so it hides completed/all caught up series. That’s why you get a different result.
