Plex Sync BETA

Most of us have configured our systems correctly with forwarded 32400 ports, and yet, this new feature keeps on breaking, I believe its an issue with Plex Sync rather than the user, as every other service connected to plex never has any issues.

+1 custom port for plex sync feature request
Use case: I have plex running on a cloud service which uses a different port I can’t configure. Ex: port 32843 externally reverse proxied to 32400 internally.

I guess I did speak too soon

My Plex Sync hasn’t automatically synced in over 5 days now…it is connected and all but doesn’t automatically sync. Manual sync worked before as expected.

Maybe something for @justin to have a look into and see…there was also no errors reported on my end, so maybe just a stuck runner?

I’ve reset my router, network adapters, and reconfigured my entire network multiple times now. I’ve done everything I can to get a smooth, stable connection with this new Plex Sync feature, but it’s just not working.

How many more weeks of these constant headaches do we have to endure?

I have two servers, and if I run both Plex servers on the same port, one of them loses remote connection. So I’ve configured one server to use port 32400 and the other to use 32401, which, according to one of the official Plex info pages, is acceptable. Still, the server on port 32401 always fails to sync.

I’ve tried port forwarding, MiniUPnP ACLs, redirects, you name it. Nothing works. And to make matters worse, we haven’t heard a single update from Justin on the progress of this feature all week.

I’m done. Burnt out. My head is fried from dealing with Plex Sync. It’s been nothing but daily frustration trying to get this working for both servers. For now, I’ve disconnected everything and will wait until the feature matures before attempting it again, No use paying a monthly subscription for only one feature I can’t even use. I will let this month run out and then cancel my subscription if there’s no change.

Thanks and Good Luck, Justin, I really hope you get this feature completed before i end up in an old folks home

Trying to set this up for the first time as a VIP Member, Have plex fully remotely accessible via 32400 I sign in and just get the immediate error 500 at this page Sign in to Trakt - Trakt and can’t see anything else. If I remove Trakt in Authorized devices I can try to sign in again but still same error, any logs anywhere on the Trakt side? what else can be tried?

The fact it can’t handle more than one server has been an issue from day one. As well as the hardcoded 32400 port without allowing us to enter our port.

FWIW the webhook method will work with multiple servers.

Justin does have plans to support multiple servers, more ports, and a bunch of other features, but he doesn’t seem to be in any rush to finish what many of us consider the holy grail of Trakt features: Plex Sync.

I’m currently using the webhook, though it’s pretty limited compared to what Plex Sync is supposed to deliver. The worst part? I’ve spent countless hours thinking the problem was on my end, resetting my entire network, every device, over and over again, only to realize it might not be my fault at all. At this point, my brain is less “Wired” and more “Deep-Fried.

Little update from my end: Sync did work now after a weekly, so maybe it was adapted for my account manually after complaining on the hourly, so thanks if so!

One more observation that I’ve made in the last couple of days is that it doesn’t sync ratings from single TV show episodes.

For movies this seems to work fine, but every TV show I’ve rated has not been synced up to Trakt (yet)

Can confirm it doesn’t seem to work. In the setup process everything worked smoothly: server accesibile, selected user, checked everything to sync all, libraries checked, save. After that queued a manual all data sync, waited for about a week and nothing appeared. Yesterday I disconnected and reconnected, queued an all data sync and still nothing appeared…maybe it will appear at some point.

So basically similar issues that affect the webhook method of syncing when it comes to tv series are still in existence with Plex Sync BETA?

Like I wrote a long time ago in this thread, this is looking more and more like regression rather than progress and a total waste of time.

All while Trakt seems to have taken a sudden u-turn and offered people a 50% discount on their renewals. Limited of course to a few rather than everyone.

That’ll be first year only and then still $60/year, which many people consider to expensive, I suppose?

So I have been trying to get this to work for 2 days now. I was able to get when syncing only new data, but it does not run when trying to do all data. This is leaving a big hole in my library and not sure how to get it to sync up.

i’d love to test this feature too, but I have an AppBox with Plex. And for AppBoxes it is very common to have it reachable via ssl on port 443,

Maybe consider to also allow the standard SSL 443 as I think this one is more common than the other allowed port beside the default 32400 - i think it was 8443?

@justin @Kristin – @ anyone…

Any updates or insight on anything PlexSync related?

Thanks in advance.

Hey there! We haven’t forgotten about the Plex Sync! Justin has been out of office for a bit but should be back later this week. I unfortunately am not able to provide much support for Plex Sync yet, as many of the issues reported here are things Justin needs to look into. Once Justin’s back, you should have some answers

Many of us have been trying to get this working since day one, but a few key features still need to be completed before it’s ready for widespread use with stability.

Many users, myself included, have more than one server, so it would be great not to have to switch between them manually. There’s also an issue with multiple servers trying to use the same 32400 port, support for additional ports would really help. I understand the concerns around opening more ports, but Plex has indicated that 32401 is acceptable.

This is actually the main reason I subscribed for VIP status. Unfortunately, Plex Sync continues to break, and the lack of communication only adds to the frustration.

Awesome - thanks for the update, Kristin.

I figured holiday/travel was a likely reason, but wanted to reach out as we don’t know the ins/outs of who is working on what and while you all don’t need to disclose that, that little bit of clarity helps us end-users immensely.

Might not seem like a huge deal, but with some of the other changes of late that have happened already souring subscribers moods, I’d think being on high-alert to communicate down-times would be at the forefront for these projects. Especially one like Plex Sync that is openly being advertised as working in emails going out to try and get new/old subscribers to sign back up.

Having said all that - thanks again for the update. :+1:t4:

I, personally, am excited for the new Plex sync development and appreciate the huge step forward. Anyone who uses plextraktsync knows that it’s not perfect (perhaps mostly due to trakt API changes). Neither is the dev very fun to communicate with - so I appreciate the communication from Justin and the team.

I understand that this will take time, and will not be perfected in a week. Just please don’t give up on watchlist syncing and tighten up scrobbling (from plex) :joy:.

I’m in the same situation — it’s a pity I can’t use this tool either due to port limitations.

I’m still seeing the same UI issues I was seeing a couple months ago when I had previously posted in this thread. Once I connect my server to the Plex Sync I can see the server options but there’s no “sync” button displayed and the default option of Library Sync “Only New Items” is selected…

However, when I change the Library Sync to “All Items” and click save settings the page refreshes and I see the sync button now but all of the server options are gone…

The only way I can get the server options back is to disconnect and reconnect which then gets me back to the same view as the first screenshot and starts the loop over again. When I tried to mention this bug before I was told maybe I have something set up wrong but I’m pretty confident I don’t, also Trakt and Plex have been linked and running consistently but my last auto sync was nearly a month ago, and when I did try to initiate a manual sync of all library items using the button it sat as “Queued” overnight without doing anything. I have my port manually set for 32400 as instructed and set up port forwarding for it in my router which has allowed successful auto-syncs in the past but despite not changing anything since the manual sync button was added I still can’t get the sync to work for my entire library as I had hoped. Is this a bug that anyone else may be experiencing as well?
