That promise did not even last my first year as VIP…

Yeah I am a website owner of a relatively large site and I also offer subscriptions to support the site, our pricing has been locked in for about 20 years. This action leaves a bit of a bad taste and I have cancelled my auto-renew.
If they reverse the decision to hike pricing at 100% for legacy users, I will resubscribe though.
If you’re existing VIP member, nothing changes and you keep your existing pricing. This means a Trakt OG on the $15/yr plan keeps their pricing. And it means Trakt VIPs paying $30/yr keep that pricing. As long as you remain an active VIP, you’re grandfathered in at your price point.
Cool story, bro.
Who would’ve saw this coming. /s
New subscriptions likely slowed because of the high price and now they’re forcing it on us in an attempt to pad revenue.
Shame. They had a really good thing going, hitting that sweet spot even as a business leaning on TMDB and our community contributions. Blaming it on improvements and features no one asked for; all they needed to do was stay the course and stay stable and everyone would’ve been happy. Feels like a masterclass in how to mess things up.
For anyone ending up here:
The price of VIP is $60/year for everyone.
They broke their promise:
If you’re existing VIP member, nothing changes and you keep your existing pricing. This means a Trakt OG on the $15/yr plan keeps their pricing. And it means Trakt VIPs paying $30/yr keep that pricing.
From May 20 (2025) onwards, the price of VIP is $60/year for everyone (even previously grandfathered users):
Except those that joined after the cutoff date and would have been stung with $60 in any event.
VIP =====> RIP
So much for honoring. Your words mean nothing if you’re not powerfull enough at the corporate level to honor your promises.
