Tvdb changes to a subscribe model

from April they went to October and now 2022. Does that strike as “weird” or is it just me ?

It’s weird, but it’s on brand for TVDB. They aren’t on time for anything.

I like the new report option on the show. Since opening a ticket about missing metadata like posters or episodes needs to complete some more fields and the button on the show is more immediate.

But is the “missing metadata” the option to select saying that this show after numerous refresh, still is missing all the episodes ?

Does it need a “missing episodes/images” selection as well ?

S03E02+ have only been added today Family Business S3E2 (2021) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB) so it can take up to 8 hours until they appear in API on TMDB.
I think the metadata option is primarily for showtimes, wrongly linked tvdb/tmdb ids, etc.

thanks for that link in changes, i didn’t know about that.
But we agree that the report option should have a “Missing episodes/images” option i think.

I was wondering why the new Whose Line episodes weren’t showing up on trakt under this listing:

(this listing is the reboot seasons only, as TMDB does it)

and it said it had not refreshed its data since April 16th! I told it to manually refresh, but aren’t shows supposed to refresh themselves automatically? The data was already available on TMDB for at least the last few days I believe.

I’ve update “De Columbus” on TMDB yesterday, but still no update in comparison. A refresh from TVDB is possible (done so), but not one for TMDB. How to compare then?

I have a similar problem. Source is TVDB, but latest update is on TMDB. So Season 11 of Asphalt Cowboys is still not available on trakt.

I’ve updated TMDB and TVDB, and then did the compare. If it’s 100%, you’re able to move it to use TMDB.

I migrated this show over to TMDB, it’s refreshing now.

That is weird, is the show updating now? I fix a few bugs recently that might have affected some shows from getting updated as regularly as they should have been.

Well it refreshed manually when I told it to on October 11th, but doesn’t seem to have refreshed automatically since then. There is info for the fourth episode of the current season on TMDB, but not on trakt.

There was a duplicate listing with the same ID that has now been deleted. This should fix the auto-update. Send a help ticket or flag the listing from the left sidebar.

what update do you mean ? there isn’t one as far as trakt.
tmdb is now used so this does not affect the site

I haven’t heard any updates related to TVDB shutting down their v3 API. I’m not sure if or when that is planned.

Internally we have a lot more tools to merge and move things around. We also have a dedicated support person handling data reports and TMDB migrations.

you add them to TMDB , that is the case. Trakt receives data from the feeder (tmdb)

i don’t think it will ever be a feeder (and i do not want to, different site, different philosophy)

Unfortunately, while it is easier to add data to TMDB than TVDB, there is no guarantee as to how long the data will remain on TMDB. I have noticed and can provide examples of Movies and Series that I or others added to TMDB that were later deleted by a moderator without warning or explanation. The series or movies appear in Trakt as having TMDB as their source, but clicking on the TMDB link shows an “oops” no page. This is frustrating for series that have been migrated to TMDB because they are no longer updated with new episodes from TMDB (since it’s been deleted) or TVDB (since it’s no longer used after migration). Again, I can provide links to 1 series and many movies in Trakt like this.

Yes, please do so as I am curious as to what you are referencing.

I’ve seen these sorts of deletions too, but they’ve almost always been explained by careful reading of the TMDB Bible. RIFFTRAX, for example, is a valid deletion because it’s against the Bible. Same with short-film collections like ALTER and DUST. And how TMDB defines a “series” is different than TVDB too - THE LAST DRIVE-IN on TVDB is a single show, but in TMDB’s Bible, it’d be classified as multiple shows. Etc., etc.

I’ve read the comments below about the TMDB Bible and I understand that some things are explained and well thought out, others are philosophical. I only point out that stuff gets added, sucked into Trakt, and then removed from TMDB. Some of it’s been migrated so it will never be updated. I’m not saying they are wrong, but here is a dead migrated TMDB link to a show that doesn’t exist:

The Daily Bugle - Trakt
Page Not Found — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org)

Here’s a dead movie that is really a show:

The Power of Nightmares (2004) - Trakt
Page Not Found — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org)

And here’s another of the countless examples:

Heimat: A Chronicle of Germany (1984) - Trakt
Page Not Found — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org)

I come across them all the time. I love Trakt. I just have to be very carefull when I’m working on lists because some movies are really shows and the watch now link won’t typically show you where you can watch a movie that is really a show. So again, I have to be careful when I work on movie lists like TSPDT. Those lists have lots of movies that are dead links and should really be shows.

The ultimate problem is when it is changed/removed from TMDB, it is not removed from Trakt and remains with the TMDB datasource. Hence there is a false sense of security that you can actually refresh data or know that it is being maintained.

Aye. Same thing happened with RiffTrax. I sent in a support request to have it unlinked from TMDB and reassociated and synced with TVDB until such time that Trakt removes that support. And Trakt did so.
