Tvdb changes to a subscribe model

Globally I’ve had the same experience @Steffe73 had.

On report, quick response. But every time, something is more tricky than a simple delete/duplicate, you have to justify/explain 10 times, because one mod didn’t verify the info and persists in his error and other mods don’t intervene in the discussion or they just simply ignore you.

@arcreactor if you want a recent example : Reported Problem for Into the Dark: The Body - Discuss The Body — The Movie Database (TMDB)
I’ve taken the habit to insist because most of the time when it’s a new issue, they finally get that they were wrong and correct the issue. But this time I’ve receive a threat to be banned (without prior notice) :

Hi, with regards to Into the Dark, I’m not sure why you keep arguing and arguing when the decision is made and the rules are clear. This is now a final warning. Let it go, or your account will be banned.

Best, lineker (moderator)

You got the warning, i didnt get that they just blocked me

They keep blocking
Thats why i would be delighted to go back to tvdb.
They ansver within 4hours mods seems to be better then tmdb mods.
Only thing happend to me is When Adding art work they deleted it with explaination bad crop/ blurry then adding same picture with they as contributer. But thats better then tmdb.

That’s from your experience. Mine is the opposite. And they are pretty bad for anime, listing remakes and spin-offs in the same page. And leaving no room for debate.
It took me months for them to answer some of the things I reported. And in the end, they did not fix them.
TMDB can have some controversial takes and be inflexible on some things, but they have clear rules and tend to follow only them.
Both services have bad sides, I, myself, prefer the way TMDB handles things.
Anyway, trakt can’t go back to TVDB, the reasons have already been said and that was decided long ago.

Do you think that moderators that just block are Good for any moviedatebase?
Every database have some flaws its up to us the community to correct them,
Tmdb are a shit datebase. PERIOD.

Tmdb are a shit database just flaws no Good. PERIOD.

So start a better one, offer it for free, and the world will love your moderation style and switch.

Half serious, half not. I’m not a huge fan of what we have now, but the reality is that moderating anything sucks, policies have ti exist because otherwise morons write bad data (liking thinking it is good, but when it is inconsistent between shows and between contributors, it will always be a mess).

And media is complicated. What is the difference between TV shows and a movie? And are you sure? What about a limited series TV series? Or a short series of Made for TV movies? Are webisodes part of the same series even though they aren’t on TV? How about webisodes that sit between movies? What do you do when the network straight out rewrites history (changing season numbers, episode numbers, and similar, but doesn’t tell anyone except in ads and interviews?)

Episodes are released in different orders in different places, some get skipped, some get removed from broadcast so do you leave a gap? And what about when the episode appears on the DVD but in a different spot?

It’s a mess, and this is the genuinely easy stuff, anime is different, sports needs different rules, nightly/weekly broadcasts don’t necessarily have a season although they might and it might or might not be the year, how do you know?

How about YouTube shows, do they get in the database? Are those webisodes?

The technical stuff (databases, APIs, servers, hosting) is all easy compared to the policy decisions and active moderation, and the moderators need to make decisions on shows they’ve never even heard of and don’t understand the complexities.

It sucks for all concerned, and I genuinely believe the various services do their best.

I don’t know what you did and how many times you did it. I can’t judge on that, what I do know is that, with me, they have always been resonable and listened to what I had to say on controversial stuff. Most of the cases, just follow their guidelines and they will do the right thing according to it.
They have their guidelines and will follow them. If you don’t they might punish you.

On spirann’s case a few comment’s above they looked and analized many times, and they are using what they think is the best solution to that. However, I don’t agree with the threat as he hasn’t been disrespectful. I think that case is so complicated they should just allow it to be added as a show and as movies. But it is their website, their decision.

TVDB is a mess for anime, so I will never like it.

That’s why the episodes Groups are needed. Then you can put video release Japan in one and usa in one etc . And diffrent Channels. I guess a user in Uk is not interested in USA release, he wants uk dates and so on but of course ex Rambo 1 (Us 1985) if first released Us, ds i dont know if that is right it’s a example.
I have been thinking about makeing a New movie & serie database. But lack the Technical skill for programing.
Sorry but sports would not be aloved. Youtube is in the specials sektion.

I didnt do anything, was having a diskussion about serie vs movie.
And then i made a report of error in database and got blocked. One warning first i got 10days suspension, then baned second i didnt even knew i did something wrong.
Just baned and thats it.

Maybe it was the tone, or the attitude that they probably “get wrong”
Can you provide your posts on the forum maybe to get a better view ?

The attitude that i got ftom tvdb is more in the forms of

It is amazing how they cannot accept that they are wrong.

tvdb mod: no the earth is flat, you are banned

Yeah I don’t agree with how they handled that.

I have unfortunately seen TVDB act much worse.
See my previous post on the subject…

That sucks, but somewhat anticipated given the endless back and forth. I asked for them to involve Travis in this and even filled out the submission form in hopes to get a response but it’s unlikely. He usually is more level-headed and would at least put down a clear stance from the site and not a specific mod group.

Never had much friction with the old TVDB mods, only some of the newer ones (and can’t speak to the payed ones since I stopped using the site) but I found them to be much more consistent.

Mods on TMDB while very busy were never my coup of tea. Before they had the bible it was just random at best and now with that written they reference it to ad nauseam even if it makes the listing worse without putting it through proper scrutiny ever.
They are also often passive aggressive, closed plenty of my reports without comment (unresolved), delete the wrong ID duplicate plenty (in rare instances even shows/movies which were valid but what they consider worthy of inclusion varies huh), mass removed keywords they didn’t feel like fit or leave a simple image removal open for over a year for who knows what reasons (Reported Problem for Tawawa on Monday - Discuss Tawawa on Monday — The Movie Database (TMDB) ?)… Many question threads are also left unanswered or you get a “on the to do list” / “we are not quite sure yet” that gather dust for years really.

I have had that issue popup recently, I messaged why was this closed and then it was fixed.

Sounds like a Good idea with trakt as its own database.i am More than glad both to be contributor and a member of the moderators team.
That would solve my own thought of starting a better database but my lack of programing skils.
Since we could still use all available databases, just fix their holes of incorrect info.
Since to this day there is no database that is 100% correct.

So far the moderators att tvdb have been alright to me. Only onetime i report ed incorrect episode. They gave the ansvers we have confirmed episode Number or something like that. So i gave up. Att least they gave me an ansver i couldnt confront. Give proof of oposite. Since my Sourse was only my own video ccollection and a plattform like HBO max. I couldnt prove that that episode ever aired or not.

are we not passed this yet ? seams like a Grinch going on for 3 years now. Why ?
Everything has shifted, no “major” issues, yes tmdb is not perfect but tvdb was worst, try to get something fixed over there or report a wrong episode!

For me , i use it not daily, it is part of my life the shows and trakt, is like internet now, can’t live without it and i havent found a major issue for over 6 months now.

So can we just let it go and move on?

That might be the case for you, but not for everyone

I am finding tmdb far worse in quality than what we had before

New shows are missing
New seasons are missing
New episodes are missing
No details for episodes
Random run times
Shows that ended decades ago suddenly having unwatched episodes

Apart from run time, the above are mostly correct on tvdb

I also use trakt daily to add my watches, but with so much missing data it is becoming impossible to keep up with things

Good for you

I personally dont have time to constantly add data to another website when the data already exists on another site (there are just too many issues with tmdb)

It wasnt my idea to drop support of good data for the poor quality we have now

Yes people can complain, trakt caused the issue, it’s upto them to fix it

I guess you are not a mainstream watcher. If you are talking about shows in smaller countries then i guess you could be right. But for me and many users (not an excuse) i really havent notice anything like that.
Can you give examples on each bullet point.

As @changnoi is saying you can edit, ok you do not have the time but how do you think the database in tvdb was made ? magically ? by OCR scanning ? someone did the time and harvest , put the data. Someone who didn;t have the time as you. Complaining without doing something is not the answer.

and no they didn’t

Furthermore, there are other tracking sites like trakt, of course nothing as sophisticated or big as this but you must weight your options. You loose some you win some.

Again please point out some examples, i’m very curious on some many issues
