The heck; unlisting a thread is one thing, but blatantly deleting threads now. O.o
Isn’t there a way to get some media attention towards this whole issue? I know sites like Bored Panda and such would eat this up.

Louis Rossmann maybe? He posts a lot of videos about companies being anti-consumer and their dodgy practices. Going back on their grandfather alone would’ve been enough for him to say something about it.
What on Earth is happening with this company? I’m shocked and so disappointed.
Wild how they’ve gone from upsetting folks over pricing changes to encouraging them to root for their downfall through bizarre and unnecessary censorship. A insane comedy of errors happening here.
I’ve decided that not only will I not renew VIP and backup my data, I’ll be deleting my account as well. I have no interest in benefiting a company that behaves this way with my data contributions. I expect others will do the same.
Apparently I won the new user of the month awards on the forums here. I’m not sure the process for picking that award considered that I’ve only posted about the price increases and the poor treatment of the VIPs in that month …
Congratulations on such a prestiges award dude.
Didn’t even know it existed tbh, well done anyhow, keep the awesome posts.
Apparently they set this thread to private, so only VIP members can view it. Can you set this to public again @McBaumwolle?
I also posted about this in: Forums censoring.
it’s because someone changed the location of the topic. i can move it back
I’ve cancelled my renewal yesterday. This is not even my real account since I can’t use my real account on the forum. When I try to login all I get:
Login Error
An account could not be registered with the email address removed. Please contact the site’s administrator.
This has not been solved for over two weeks and they think I would keep my account for $60 with this abysmal support?
Nope!
This is not the only issue I have regarding Trakt since the move to TMDB… my mostly watched show is not even on here.
Then the horrible reaction to the community outcry was the straw that broke the camels back for me. My renewal isn’t for almost a year so I had time but these last few days did it for me.
I have a year to adapt my tracking and I think it will be fine.
Trakt and these 7 years as VIP will soon be forgotten…
I got the award as well. It’s pretty funny considering I am openly hostile towards Trakt and their recent practices
Bye bye, Trakt. I‘ve been a huge fan and recommended your product for years to all my friends. After introducing those price changes and in reaction to your way of dealing with customer criticism, I have just imported my whole Trakt history to a competing service and will close my account now. It’s been fun while it lasted, but enough is enough.
Would be very ironic if the award is triggered by an algorithm that is based on likes per view or something like that.
the awards are from the discourse platform, likely are by just interaction or using the forum site so yeah some sort of algorithm.
I think that is exactly what it is. We won the new user of the month award for getting likes and replies on posts about how badly they were treating the VIPs.
I’ve cancelled my auto-renewal. Still a VIP until December 2025. After that, moving on. I cannot justify $90+ (local cost) for the limited VIP features I use. $45 dollars was a stretch, but I paid it to support Trakt. I can’t afford to provide that support at the higher price point.
Hello Trakt Team, top of the morning to you, I hope this message finds you well.
Today I am kindly informing you of some serious concerns I have regarding the morality and legality of your recent plan to increase VIP prices as stated in the forum announcement “Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes – Effective June 12, 2025” (Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes – Effective June 12, 2025)
As I have tried to post some concerns earlier, the post was promptly removed by a moderator and moved to direct messaging. I have since not heard anything, so I prefer to raise my concerns publicly to give you a chance to publicly and transparently address these valid concerns me and others have.
I truly hope this post will not be removed as it does not break any forum guidelines and is written politely and with the utmost respect towards Trakt, its staff and its members, with the intent to publicly and transparently find guidance and clarification on valid concerns me and others have regarding these announcements.
(Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes
and
Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes (2))
If this post is for whatever reason posted in the wrong subforum, please move it to the correct, public forum.
On May 13, forum-user “raluca” with the title “Product Manager”, made an announcement concerning “Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes – Effective May 20, 2025”. (Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes – Effective June 12, 2025)
This original announcement, stating Effective May 20, 2025, severely violated both your own Terms of Service (ToS) as well as general consumer protection laws, stating a minimum of 30 days notice is needed before implementing such changes.
After heavy forum backlash, stating this original 7-day period is in clear violation of the ToS, user “Justin Nemeth” with the title “Director”, on May 20 - a week after the date of May 20 had been announced, and only after VIP-subscribers pointed out this grave oversight - edited the original announcement’s date from May 20 to June 12.
Now, when such an amendment is made to an official announcement, the original 30-day notice requirement effectively resets to the date of the modification, which would make the 30-day period start on May 20, 2025 and go into effect on June 19. When this amendment is made, you also have to inform each and every VIP-member again, making them aware of any changes, through any way of direct communication, such as email. A mere forum-post does not suffice.
Since we now have established that Trakt has failed to comply with these basic guidelines, it is safe to assume that the current date of June 12, 2025 can currently not be accepted by any of Trakt’s subscribers and should be rectified at your earliest convenience, following the correct way to do these things.
The next thing I have sincere doubts about is the message posted by “Justin Nemeth”, one of the executive members and co-founders of Trakt, made in September 2024, stating this: (Price of VIP? - #12 by justin):
“If you’re existing VIP member, nothing changes and you keep your existing pricing. This means a Trakt OG on the $15/yr plan keeps their pricing. And it means Trakt VIPs paying $30/yr keep that pricing. As long as you remain an active VIP, you’re grandfathered in at your price point. If you have issue or a failed renewal, just contact support and we will honor the price.
We last increased prices 9 years ago in 2015. For new members, we now offer VIP paid yearly or monthly. You can still lock in the $30/yr price by signing up for yearly billing by September 5. After that, it will be $60/yr.
The Trakt team is growing (check About Trakt - Trakt) and increased VIP revenue helps fund all our salaries. We also removed programmatic ads since they really sucked, so VIP also helps cover that change in revenue as well.
We are of course open to feedback and welcome that. For everyone in this thread who is already a VIP, nothing really changes.”>
This is a specific and unconditional assurance to all existing VIP subscribers. One that directly influenced my decision to continue my support and maintain my subscription. The statement was made by a legal representative of Trakt and can thus be considered as legally binding.
Justin Nemeth could have written this message in many different ways, adding nuances and/or specific conditions, such as time-frames or other legal additions but alas, this is the message as is, written by an executive figure and should be construed at face value.
This message does not state a timeframe, nor does it specify the method of payment or state of subscription (cancelled or ongoing).
As a longstanding VIP-member with a seniority of 6 years and ongoing, Justin Nemeth’s message directly influenced me to renew my subscription as it would remain grandfathered for an indefinite period, as promised. Going back on this legally binding promise less than a year later is a legally and morally very dubious practice.
In my humble opinion, the promise made by Justin Nemeth in September 2024, should be honored to at least 1 year later, when all the active subscriptions on that day of writing have lapsed a full year and have all VIP-members eligible for early renewal at the grandfathered price.
Please, dear team of Trakt (About Trakt - Trakt), I kindly request of you to seriously address the above concerns that me and many other subscribers have, in a transparent and public way so that we can be better informed and act accordingly.
The bestest regards,
Staalplaat
Trakt executives right about now:
…I wouldn’t hold my breath, buddy.
I appreciate the effort you made into this post. =] But it’s clear they don’t care anymore; they’ve deleted and/or locked almost every thread.
Furthermore, in case you feel you have covered all of the above disputes by pointing us to this post (Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes – Effective June 12, 2025 - #3 by marius) by a user named “Marius”, with the forum-title “Executive Producer”, explaining why he thinks the grandfathered pricing is unsustainable.
This person is not listed on Trakt’s own “Meet the team” segment on (About Trakt - Trakt), or on Trakt’s LinkedIn page (Trakt | LinkedIn), as well as other forum members openly questioning Marius’ credibility to be speaking in such an executive manner.
As such, Marius can not realistically be considered a credible representative with executive powers, and can at most be seen as a community manager making a mediocre attempt at damage control.
We can all understand why grandfathered pricing is not sustainable for Trakt and how you would rather increase the subscription fee.
The problem is not WHY you want to make these changes, the problem is HOW you implement these changes with complete disregard to prior, legally binding, promises and the actual neglect of following basic rules regarding consumer law.
If you could kindly explain how you will execute your plans following basic consumer protection laws, instead of why, it will be very much appreciated by everyone.
After 2 years as a VIP I have checked the benefits I get for it… and realised that I’m only paying for VIP to support the project. I use none of the VIP extras (other than getting the stats emails which is nice but which I don’t care about). In other words, there is no reason for me to continue subscribing after the price doubles. So rather than getting $30 (or UK equivalent) from me each year as a “thanks”, they’re going to get nothing.
No refund coming for the remainder of my term, quoting their terms & conditions, seems they do like to stick to them when it suits.. No surprise there
